Big bodied, with a strong backbone of acidity and minerally tannic structure. Loads of dark bitter cherry in the mouth, with some tar and pine. Quintessential aglianico character. Long finish. Big wine with a bit of a high alcohol, but well balanced. Serious stuff. |

Steely, meaty and deep, it reminds of a Rhone Syrah but not as full bodied and black fruit based. Very interesting and contemplative wine. |

Here, after 10 years the wine was approachable on opening, but even better on day 2. Rich plum and dark grape flavors, a bit of musky and herbal flavors. Acidity is still bright and fresh, tannic structure still present, still provides a bit of pucker, but really provides nice structure. Long finish adds to enjoyment. I drank this with homemade pasta and it was perfect. This was a real Italian wine experience. |
