8/26/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 94 pointsAwesome. So much ripe nectarine, orange marmalade, mango, honey and brown sugar packed in here with just enough acidic push to stretch it into endlessness on the finish. A huge hit with the company present and it's great to hear the reaction to telling someone it's Chardonnay. The color is a beautiful golden bronze with flashes of amber at the edge. So delicious. 5+12+18+9= 94 |

8/23/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsNeeded a good three hours or so of air before it really shined. Medium intensity aroma with lovely notes of cherry and plum, honeysuckle, tobacco, and grilled spices. On the palate, the fruit emerges from a dusty background to remind me of what coordinates of the globe we're dealing with here. Plush and generous flavors with such an elegant structure. Simple and beautiful. I can't recall anything New World that emulates this little gem. Blind, I put this in the $30-$40 range. 5+11+17+8= 91 |

8/23/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: NRShared bottle that disappeared too quick for a formal note. I will say that it was resoundingly delicious and one of my top Champers this year. Plenty of time left in the tank and I wish I had more than one left in the cellar. Great value. Gut impression, 92pts. |

8/21/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 90 pointsVery good again. Noticed a bit more grapefruit and banana in the bouquet and less fruit drive overall on the palate, but with a few hours of air exposure, I was quite pleased with all that was being presented. Firm acidity and a decent and detectable bedrock of minerality with subtle and very long finish notes that pop up minutes after swallowing. Missing is some of the marshmallow and nut dashes that were highlighted a few years ago, though some other secondary notes of maturity still add a lot to the picture now. Drink or hold up to a couple years. 5+11+16+8= 90 |

8/20/2016 - fingers wrote: 90 pointsColor is a medium hazy ruby with clear, quick legs, and no sediment. Profound Christmas candy and floral aromas at the pop that subsides into blackberries and cream with a dash of bright white pepper after breathing. A little turmoil on the palate at first, with the tannins and alcohol at odds against the acidity, but it settled in nicely after about the second hour open and came into much better balance thereafter. Still a touch hot, but the texture really rounded out and the finish became more interesting. Dynamic pairing to some soft Camembert or Brie as the wine really jumped to life with the cheese. 4+12+16+8= 90 |

8/18/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 88 pointsNotes after 1 hr open. Medium to dark ruby color, about 80% saturated with very slow, clear legs and minor sediment. Powerful nose of jujube fruit, blueberries, moist cigar wrapper, and dark toasted oak. Palate is very rustic and tart with generous acidity and still some long-grained tannins. I find that this has improved greatly from three years ago and still seems a year or two from fully loosening up and displaying better harmony and smoothness. I doubt it will ever be terribly complex but it is far from narrow and singular. Perhaps a day or two of slow-O will be beneficial so I'll put it away and report back. 4+11+15+8 = 88 |

8/14/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: NRTo be fair, this bottle had been open for several days and forgotten about in the fridge before I finished the last glass tonight. Overall impression is of a wonderfully rustic and grippy syrah that is still wrapped up quite tight, even after being exposed to air for so long. I will leave my other bottles alone for a year or two. |

8/14/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsVery consistent with my first bottle back in December. Color and appearance unchanged. Bouquet is the same but the palate has gained a little gravitas and intrigue, delivering deeper layers of flavor and a real "Champagne mousse" experience with a creamy nuttiness and a long, clean finish that I wish I could eat with a spoon. I think it still has more to give so I plan to keep my remaining 2 buried for awhile. 4+11+17+9= 91 |

8/10/2016 - fingers wrote: 86 pointsFrom 375ml. Color turning a lovely golden bronze with good clarity. Nose is soft and a bit inept. Medium body and sweetness, lacking the full realm of flavor you need for a serious dessert wine. Again, nothing special, which is why it went perfectly with a Del Taco chicken burrito. 5+9+15+7= 86 |

8/8/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 85 pointsDrank over two days with no noticeable change in character. Very light straw color with a bright reflection, clear and sound. Light bodied with fast legs. Very faint aroma with a bit of lemon zest, pineapple, and wet rocks. A nice charge of acidity carries yellow citrus and very light macadamia over the bed of quartz-like minerals. Not particularly deep or persistent, however it is very refreshing and easy to drink. 5+9+14+7 = 85 |

8/7/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 points4/17/2015 disg't. With less than two twists to the wire cage, the cork proceeded to explode from the bottle with the loudest pop I can ever recall. Thankfully, no spill out of the neck and all of that sparkling enthusiasm translated into the glass with vibrant and generous streams of bubbles creating a persistent froth at the surface. Light straw in color. Pure Chardonnay in nature with a few toasty notes already adding to the profile, but it is still very young, and the longer it aerates the richer and deeper it gets. Very promising, and I would recommend holding for a couple years, if you can. I know it will be tough to stay away from my two remaining bottles. 4+12+17+9= 92 |

8/5/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: NROpen air time is key to enjoying this wine. I opened on Tuesday and tasted one glass over three hours and it was good. Recorked and stowed it in the cellar for three days and shazaam!, what a difference. Profound and sexy bouquet. Deep, complex, and lively palate with a long finish. The abundance of brambles dissolves into balance with the gobs of fruit, and despite the big body of alcohol, I am happy to tolerate it for the pure delicious-ness of flavors. |

8/3/2016 - fingers wrote: 91 pointsBest after about 6 hours of air to open up. Still as beautiful and interesting as it was 10 months ago but losing some fruit boldness and drive. Probably at it's peak and I think it will start pointing downhill over the next couple years. Very nice wine with high QPR. 5+12+17+7 = 91 |

8/2/2016 - fingers wrote: 90 pointsNotes made after following for 24 hrs open. Dark, ruby-garnet color showing slight age. About 80% opaque with slow, lightly-tinted legs. No sediment. Profound aroma with a lot of black fruit and licorice on top, flowers, vegetation, and a big bowl of VA underneath. Very tight and harsh on the palate for the first few hours open and still feeling like it's wound up a little even on the second day. Really dark in the taste profile, where I believe the Mourvedre may be dominating. Tannins are near full resolution and the tertiary notes of age are just starting to show. One thing I find un-ignorable is the alcohol burn. It seems to be a bit pervasive. 5+12+15+8 = 90 |

7/24/2016 - fingers wrote: 83 pointsLosing steam and not as enjoyable as it was in January. A weak bouquet sets the stage for a very blasé palate. My main request of a white wine is to not be boring but this, unfortunately, spurs very little interest from my senses. I think it's best days are behind us. 4+9+14+6= 83 |

7/19/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsI last tasted this 5 years ago and it is fascinating to now experience the difference that time has made. The fruit is still rich and tasty but the texture is velvety smooth with nice licorice and tar elements. It certainly still has good energy with a few years of life left in it. I think this was Justin Basel's first vintage as head winemaker and it is commendable that it is still showing so well after 10 years. 5+12+17+8= 92 |

7/16/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsDrinking beautifully and held up well over two days. Perhaps at its best on the 2nd day. Still a dark, inky purple with clear, slow legs and moderate sediment - decanting recommended. Expansive, floral nose blossoming out of the glass with extra cherry and sweet tobacco notes. Fully resolved tannins and aged fruit character that also puts a little tart pinch on the end of the palate. 5+12+16+8 = 91 |

7/14/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsJust what I expect and hope for with this winemaker. Takes a few hours for it to calm down and then it delivers great concentrated fruit joy surrounded by a spicy wrap. This, in particular, seems to have the structure for some medium-term aging. I would hold, if you can, for another year or four and see what develops. 5+12+17+8= 92 |

7/8/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 90 pointsThree years since my last one and it is much improved. Even so, at least six hours of air was needed to open up the bouquet and this was really drinking best on the second day. Those notorious '05 tannins still push the limit but are easier on the cheeks and gums after the long aeration, and the fruit depth and persistence is admirable. I think the CT drinking window is a little pessimistic. 5+11+16+8= 90 |

7/8/2016 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsNotes made on second day open. Light yellow straw color, bright and clear reflection. Medium-big nose of citrus blooms, quince, pink peppermint, and sea spray. Medium-light body with a big charge of nice acidic energy on the tongue. The slightest bit of an oxidation note creeps in on the finish and I wish I had more to try a year or two down the road. 5+11+18+8 = 92 |

7/7/2016 - fingers Does not like this wine: 72 pointsFrom a 187ml. Color is dark, inky violet with no sediment and slow legs on the glass. Almost no nose to speak of, other than a little grape jelly and Old Spice. Palate is short and simple with really woolly tannins and sharp acidity reigning terror. The fruit is just empty and bleh. Plenty of oak for those that enjoy such, so it has that going for it. It has been quite some time since a wine offended me so. 4+6+8+4+ 72 |

7/6/2016 - fingers wrote: 89 pointsWell, I'll be darn. This bottle is so much nicer than the last one, some 7 months ago. More weight. Stronger aroma and bouquet. Even the finish seems longer and overall, there's just more character. Pretty close to a proper CdP blanc now and still, I don't get much sense that it would improve so perhaps it is at peak. Worked well with white garlic sauce, which is not the easiest pairing partner. 4+11+16+8 = 89 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
