4/20/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 89 pointsThis bottle was probably off. The cork was crumbly and their was a disappointing smell. Still drank fairly well and we finished the bottle without complaining after comparing it to a 2005 Havens. I will try the last one in my cellar soon. This was one of my favorite Merlots when in its prime. |

I had hoped that age had changed the profile more to my liking but the fruit wasn't there and it drank like a cheap Syrah. No matter, I used the whole bottle in a beef stew instead of a zinfadel. |

3/31/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 92 pointsMy tasting was totally consistent with other CT drinkers. Demonstrates that this is a very well made wine with consistent bottling. Very prominent cherry and bright berry notes following a much more complex nose. Long finish. Wish I had more. |

3/14/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 90 pointsThis is evolving nicely. Drinks way above what I paid for this. The age makes a difference but I think this is a very well made Bordeaux. Dark and smoky with a nice nose. Glad I have more. Drink now. |

3/4/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 92 pointsAs we work through the cellar, it was nice to come back to a style of wine that my wife and I love. A big fruity CA cab with a great nose, lots of oak and bold tannins. Yes, some flaws, e.g. the tannins will never balance perfectly like a Leonetti. But wow, this is the style of wine that I love. And the price was so right on this one thanks to WTSO. There are other wines out there with more pedigree that are better all around, more integrated but most of them cost over $100 a bottle. This one is a bargain. Any one have any suggestions for other $20-30 wines that drink this good! If so please let me know. |

2/27/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 91 pointsWhat an idiot I can be. I left the bottle under running water to warm it up from the cellar and forgot about it while I was looking up how to slow cook a leg of lamb. Wife took one sip and yelled at me for ruining a good bottle of wine and she was right. Still drinkable but unfortunately overheating burns off the alcohol and once the process starts it won't stop. Thank god she loves me and agreed to go down and pick another bottle! Still it was good. I took a big glass, added balsamic, a bit of OJ and some ollive oil and poured it around the leg of lamb. I hope the wine gods forgive me. |

2/27/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 92 pointsMy wife and i are enjoying this bottle. Didn't have time to decant so we slow pour and swirl. Unusual nose. Herbal funk with a bit of strawberry is what she said. For me its just plain Portuguese and rather smooth. I think it is a bit green and could use more time in the bottle. The rest will stay in the cellar for a time. Again not understanding why any rater would have gone as high as 95, but other CT raters have been a bit tough on this wine. Great value for the money. |

2/26/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 93 pointsThis bottle was exquisitely floral and herbacious. I agree with hcampana, the wine is unique because it reflects where it is grown. I have never not enjoyed a bottle of Pride until its last drop. I wish this was not my last bottle of the old stuff. |

2/25/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 90 pointsEnjoyable better than average Super Tuscan. Low alcohol, low acid and nice nose. Despite the yearly high ratings for this wine by the wine rags, I found this only to be average. I declined to put more bottles in my cellar despite the reasonable price. Once again the CT average rating in right on, not the higher ratings of RP and WS. |

2/22/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 94 pointsBoy I wish I had more. Not yet available through an imported in the US. Got mine from a friend who is trying to bring Tokara's wines to the US. This is a wonderful example of a very sophisticated and complex South African cab. Anyone who likes Cali Cab should experience the uniqueness of a good SA Cab. You can literally smell and taste the dirt in this wine. Very smooth and delicious. This was a Director's Red but the regular cab is also very good. Recommend all Tokara wines highly except their port. |

2/19/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 89 pointsI think this wine has been underrated. This is an incredibly complex wine for the price. The 2006 vintage is equal parts malbec, cab and merlot. It has bottle age and barrel age. The juice was barreled aged 1 1/2 he malbec is right up front and the back end is smoky and smooth. I recommend everyone put some in their cellar. |

2/19/2012 - Mgarfin wrote: 88 pointsThis is an overhyped reserva that is simply too acidic to enjoy without food. It was a wine mag TOP 100 90 plus, but there are much better reservas out there for the price range. Drink now as it is going downhill or will soon. CT critics have got it right on this one and the more I use CT the more I realize that our big group puts the wine mags to shame when it comes to ratings. |
