1/26/2024 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 92 pointsDrinking well now, this has overtones of loam and earthy berries. Tannins are nicely integrated, and there is just a touch of heat. Pairs well with pork tenderloin. Should drink well for another 1-3 years. |

2010 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valleymore |
12/11/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis has definitely peaked. Tannins fully integrated, but flat on the palette with no lasting finish. Better with the roast we had versus drinking independently. Decanted for approx 90 minutes. I like it because of it smoothness (not hot), but it's not one that deserves a 90+ rating at this point. Drink soon. |

11/23/2023 - jedwilson wrote: 90 pointsNine years ago, Robert Parker did a complete vertical on HSS (1978-2013). He noted the 2013 "will be more approachable in its youth than most Hillside Selects. This is a layered wine, built like a skyscraper, a prodigious Cabernet of full-throttle intensity and purity." |

10/14/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 94 pointsDrinking at its full potential now! A wine ready to drink with little or no decant. A great balance of tannin, acidity and body with a presence of dark fruit and pepper. Wonderful on a chilly fall evening with food (such as chili, chips & queso. |

8/30/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 98 pointsDrank a bottle in 2013 with friends and rated it 98 then: "Wow! What a wine! From a vintage that some have "taken to task," this excellent cabernet has multi-layered characteristics, wonderful integration, smooth tannins, rich taste and long finish. Don't let anyone make you think this wine is anything short of amazing! Drink now through 2024." 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2007 La Sirena Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
6/17/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 96 pointsWow! Wonderful fruit palette with a lasting finish. Tannins integrated such that this is velvety smooth from first to last. Chilled freshly opened bottle for 90 minutes, then served via aerator. Just extraordinary. This is in prime drinking window. Cellaring won't improve it from this point - drink before 2025. |

2010 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don MelchorPuente Alto more |
6/8/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 90 pointsAs many have noted, medium-bodied wine. Tannins muted, a dry wine with hint of dark fruit. The wine is on the verge of being cellared too long. Suggest you enjoy it now or very soon. |

2007 Joseph Phelps InsigniaNapa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/19/2023 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 96 pointsMy 3rd review over a 10 year timeframe. This wine has aged exceedingly well over these 10 years, going from a 90 to 94 to 96 point wine in that period. Drinking exceptionally well now, this smooth, earthy, wonderfully warm on the palette - without the discomforting heat that was there 10 years ago. This is wine as it was meant to be - enjoy alone or with a good, meaty dish, heavy cheeses, etc. |

10/8/2022 - jedwilson wrote: 89 pointsDrink now as this is on the edge of going bad. On the palette, one can taste what was once a very good wine, but is now past its prime. Will improve with some decanting/airing, but is on the downhill slide. |

2009 Corison Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
3/6/2022 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis Corison has aged very nicely and is ready to drink. The tannins have evolved and are quite soft making this smooth in the mouth and finish. Sedate and well-structured with a mild earthy fruit profile which is pleasant and not overpowering. Drink now to early 2024. |

12/6/2021 - jedwilson Does not like this wine: 85 pointsHeeding RP's admonition to let this slow-maturing wine age, I opened it in anticipation this evening. Unfortunately, the smell from the glass was somewhat musty indicating this was somewhat corked. Not enough to reject entirely (if you like mineral, stony, earthy), but enough to mar the nose and taste with the smell that recalls my grandmother's canning basement - dank and musty. Disappointing. |

2007 Axios Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
7/30/2021 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 95 pointsDrinking extremely well now. Fills the mouth with earthy, warm overtures. There is also dark berry layers. Tannins well-balanced, not much need for a long decant. Enjoy now or let it cellar for 2-3 years. |

2/28/2021 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 94 pointsOpened this with friends and pulled pork and was very surprised at just how smooth this wine is now. The tannins have softened perfectly and the result is a great glass of inexpensive, but not cheap, wine. It's blended structure holds up well on its own and, in our case, with pulled pork. Ready to drink now (don't wait much longer). Recommend! |

2012 Fattoria Le Pupille (Elisabetta Geppetti) Saffredi Toscana IGTRed Bordeaux Blend more |
2/27/2021 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe 60% Cab, 30% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot structure holds up very well. An earthy wine pleasant in the mouth, with just a bit of bite and a nice, not overpowering finish. This can be drunk now, but I would recommend a year or two of storage at which time this should be a very smooth wine likely at its peak. |

8/6/2020 - jedwilson Likes this wine: 93 pointsDrinking very well now - graphite/slate taste in the mouth with a good finish - 10 seconds or so. Next day tasted even better given time to breathe. For the price point an excellent bottle of wine! Drink soon as it is in prime window now. |
