I am always on a quest for an unoaked chardonnay that is bursting with flavor, but most seem like they are missing something (the oak, maybe?). I don't like oaky chard and usually settle for either a wimpy unoaked or a slightly oaked with more flavor. With the Mer Soleil, the quest has ended. I now know that there is at least one unoaked chard with over-the-top flavor. This has flavors of pineapple, melon, mango, citrus, a bit of honey, and a refreshing minerality rather than oak. We paired it with a broccoli, asparagus, and romano frittata that was even better, having been by the Mr. and waiting for me after my long bike ride.
