2017 Makaridze Winery AladasturiBlack Sea Coastal Zone more |
3/10/2019 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRDark rose from Georgia made with the aladasturi grape. Floral nose, passionfruit, a bit natural/skin contact/phenolic tasting. Decanted for ~30 min and is much more integrated. A bit of a plain yogurt lactic note underneath tropical fruit and citrus. Nice structure that stood up to Thai red curry, and was refreshing enough to balance it. Would be a nice porch pounder on a hot day. |

2/10/2019 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRWhite Rhone blend with a little bit of skin contact. Acidic/phenolic upon first opening. Lots of fruit on the nose- stone to tropical fruit, peaches, some greenness. With some air becomes much more integrated, with a fuller feeling midpalate. Drank with spaghetti carbonara, and the acidity made it a good pairing that cut through the richness. |

2017 Château La Canorgue Luberon RoséRed Rhone Blend more |
1/5/2019 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRAromatic nose of tart red fruits- pomegranate, hibiscus, and some spiced pear compote. Just a hint of savory funkiness. Robust color, in this case representative of robust body. Lots of acidity on the finish, but supported by the round mid-palate mouthfeel. Nice pairing with spicy takeout sushi. |

12/24/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRBought at auction and held for ~1 year. Opened during Christmas Eve dinner with the family to go with Christmas fruitcake and creme brûlée. Amber colored, enticing nose that hasn’t lost its florality, with tropical fruits, baking spices plus some vanilla/caramel undertones. Nice level of sweetness, not syrupy in any way, still enough acid to keep it balanced. Lingering complex finish. Really nice, everyone at the table enjoyed it. Seems like it has enough structure to keep holding on, but primary fruit is fading. |

11/30/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRAromatic nose of dried mango, pineapple, crystallized ginger and honey. Lush mouthfeel, nice full body, but with lots of acid. Very balanced example of bigger bodied/ripe wine. Rhone-style blend of viognier, roussane, grenache blanc and marsanne. |

2016 Eric Bordelet Poiré GranitNormandy Pear more |
11/22/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NROpened to sip on while doing the Thanksgiving cooking as it is only 5%. Made from the fruit of 300 year old pear trees in Normandy. Very aromatic nose, smells like what the most perfectly ripe pear must taste like, with some warm baking spices and stony minerality. Very refreshing, with a nice balance of slight sweetness, acidity and bubbles. A great expression of pears, which I usually find either hard, mealy or tasteless. |

11/11/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRSome reductive sulfur on initial opening that blew off quickly. Bright red fruit, black pepper, allspice, blood orange. Fresh acidity, a bit thin on the midpalate if I were to nitpick. Drank with pasta and chicken liver ragu, the bright fruit and acidity made it a good palate refresher. |

11/8/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 89 pointsGreen apple, chalk, nutty and sweet marzipan, very refreshing, lots of acidity but with fruit and a bit of body to balance. Drank with Melissa Clark's onion and bacon quiche - nice pairing that cut through the richness. |

11/4/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 90 pointsDecanted upon opening, but poured the first glasses immediately. Plums, acidic yellow peaches, lavender, fresia, rosemary. Lots of fresh fruit and acidity, nice weight and long finish. Really liked this bottling from a few vintages ago when I tried it and this bottle was not a dissapointment. |

10/25/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRPlum frangipane tart, fig butter, dust, rosemary, grape jolly ranchers. Expressive nose that opens up with time. Lush and a bit heavy in the mouth, in a nice way. Good acidity on the finish that makes it easy to drink. Oak is there but not overt. Drank with some baked stuffed shells in marinara, but this wine screams fall to me and would be great with the earthier foods that go with it (squash ravioli, mushroom dishes, Thanksgiving fare, etc.). |

2016 Turley Zinfandel "Buck" Cobb VineyardAmador County more |
8/9/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRMy first time trying a bottle of one of Turley’s vineyard designate zinfandels after enjoying a couple of their lower-level blends. PnP, Ned picked out to go with chicken parmesan meatballs + garlic bread. Plums, fig jam, strawberry pie, walnut shells and dried dill, nose a bit hot, but barely. Nice mouthfeel, lush mid palate, balance tannins, and nice acid (didn’t find to be too much as previous tasters did). Overall enjoyable wine, makes me look forward to trying other Turley offerings. |

8/5/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 90 pointsMacerated cherries, tart raspberries, thyme, black pepper, fresh alfalfa hay. Juicy and full midpalate, long finish with some drying tannin on the tongue and nice acid. Paired well with food (leftover deep dish and spicy cucumber salad). Fresh and vibrant, a really enjoyable wine. |

2015 Domaine Ledogar Carignan BlancVin de France more |
8/3/2018 - G.A. Parker wrote: NRBought this bottle because I had never heard of Carignan Blanc - apparently it's similar to grapes like Pinot and Grenache in that it can mutate to a white-skinned fruit. From the Aude region of Languedoc-Roussillon, but declassified as a Vin de France. Despite being a cool/geeky wine, it was just okay. Pretty muted nose, some apple juice and lemon. Fuller bodied, with some acid and alcohol on the finish. Decent table wine- although nothing compelling, we did finish the bottle. Happy to have tried it for its uniqueness, wouldn't purchase again. |

7/27/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRBought at Minimo in Oakland at the recommendation of the staff, who described this as something different and fun. Very strong savory, wet gravel and soil notes upon opening. Metallic, bloody(!) finish and aftertaste- one of the most intense wines I've tasted. Splash decanted it and let it be for an hourish. Happy to report that it evolved- still a very savory, mineral wine, but with the addition of red fruit, strawberries, raspberries. Nice texture, balanced, not hot or overwhelmingly tannic. Definitely a really interesting wine that speaks to its volcanic origin. |

2016 Domaine Jean Ginglinger GewurztraminerAlsace Gewürztraminer more |
7/26/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 91 pointsI'm usually not a big fan of gewürztraminer, but Ned is. When he goes shopping for wine without me he tends to bring a bottle of it home. This time, I'm really glad he did. The nose has floral and white peach notes, with subdued elegance. I think there is a bit of skin contact here; not enough to take over the wine's character, but just enough to counter the perfumed, oily quality that this grape sometimes has. The slight phenolic bitterness and abundance of acidity play perfectly with the tangerine, salty pineapple, and green papaya notes. Really delicious, approachable and food friendly expression of this grape. |

7/18/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 88 pointsBought after having a glass of another higher level Richter Riesling bottling at a wine bar. Opened to drink with homemade Panang curry. Lush nose, pineapple, ripe pear, Not quite petrol, but some sort of oily/industrial note. Fruit forward palate, definitely some RS at 9.5%, but mostly balanced by the acidity. Would definitely reccomend to drink very cold. Overall a solid, food friendly wine at $13.99. |

7/1/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 88 pointsNeeded 30 minutes or so to open up and reveal a lush nose of ripe stone fruit, lemon curd, and pineapple. Palate is acidic, but I don't get any of the fruit that's prevalent on the nose, giving it a watery quality. Ned says he gets honeydew ("watery fruit"). Nice, but indistinct. |

6/21/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: 89 pointsCloudy yellow, big head that fades to flat fairly quickly in the glass. Floral nose, ripe orchard and stone fruits. A lusher mouthfeel than I remember some other bottles having, but with lots of acid rounding it out. Some oxidative notes on the finish, Ned says he gets some banana. |

6/8/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRDrank over two nights. Red and purple fruits, smokiness and lots of warm baking spice. A weighty midpalate with a balanced finish. Some noticeable oaky caramel notes the first night that integrated overnight. More robust than a lot of the wines we prefer but still light on its feet. |

6/2/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRFresh, not showing any aged characteristics to me. Red fruit, some earthy soil notes, very clean, balanced with mild tannin on the finish. Don’t have a very descriptive note writtten, but this was one of my favorite wines of the night. |

6/2/2018 - G.A. Parker Likes this wine: NRI couldn’t quite put my finger on what this smelled like - the best I got was rose syrup, soapy florality, greeness. Red fruit, a bit watery mid palate, black peppery on the finish with a bit of tannin. Interesting to try a Blaufrankisch grown in California. |
