2005 Domaine Richeaume Syrah

Côtes de Provence more

5/1/2020 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 95 points

This is how perfect syrah tastes.
The nose is peppery, spicy and a little raspberry (but no jam).
the colour is reminiscent of pinot, the nose is more classic syrah. with a little air, something is added, just a little more mature bordeaux (tobacco, pipe, leather).
The wine animates to drink and makes a lot of fun.
density, lightness and length in a near perfect combination. could also come from the nordrhone.
At peak!!

I have to be careful not to go into raptures. The bouquet has a lot of yellow fruit, some exotic fruits and an unbelievable minerality. on the palate there is a great texture and creaminess. still clear structure. a touch of butter, a lot of minerality, salinity and length make this wine really outstanding.

2016 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more

4/10/2020 - Brown11 wrote: 94 points

He starts off modestly. Tender cassis, pipe and graphite. Dominated by bound but rude tannins.
After 2 hours of air the nose explodes: cassis in its most beautiful form, graphite holds, the tannins are soft and tobacco/pipe like I love it from the left bank.
One of the best value for money Bordeauxs, especially in terms of age.
Great! Thanks! 94 Points!

2013 Domaine Tempier Bandol

Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre more

2/24/2020 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 95 points

What a surprise this wine.
So fantastic and ready to drink I have seldom drunk a Bandol.
Unbelievable minerality, earthy bouquet that flatters and pleases in the most positive sense. It makes you want to drink and then the explosion comes. Unbelievable length, finest Mourvèdre spice and a wonderful lightness with a certain sweetness.

So far my wine of the year. It may still be there, but it's already a great, oh, great pleasure.

2001 Château Latour à Pomerol

8/5/2019 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 93 points

this wine was really fun. the wine was presented in a blind test. a very classic one, and i mean that with highest esteem, bordeaux.
great aromas of cassis, cherry, graphite, leather, tobacco with a fantastic elegance. Perfectly integrated, soft, but present tannins, this is how bordeaux is really fun.
from my point of view, the wine shows the classic attributes of a "right bank wine". however, after the years of maturation these are only weak, but very beautifully excavated. so the right bank really makes joy!!

2009 World's End Cabernet Sauvignon Good Times, Bad Times Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

Oakville more

8/5/2019 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 95 points

This wine shines again. Surely still very storable, I have opened a bottle here because of the last evaluations.

It takes a long time, but it is a fantastic Cabernet with an incredible concentration. Sweet cherry, tobacco, some pipe, marzipan, sweet cassis notes.
It is a lot of fun and has a phenomenal length.
Certainly one of the best from the "new world" for my taste, which more often feels better in Bordeaux.
This wine clearly comes from a warmer climate, but is fantastic and multi-layered. The sweetness and the power don't cover everything, but impress in a comparatively subtle way.

1979 Château Cos d'Estournel

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more

8/5/2019 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 90 points

in a blind sample this wine was presented. it shows up fast the classical bordeaux nose. also the left bank comes classically. one hardly notices the age. however i sorted the wine somewhat under Cos, because the expressiveness was missing something.
i was betting on a simpler St.Julien/St.Estephe, but 20 years younger.
So much the greater the pleasure of the second glass after the dissolution.
From my point of view now ready to drink!

2014 Vinding Montecarrubo Terre Siciliane Il Carrubo

Syrah more

1/5/2019 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 93 points

Initially restless nose with some horse sweat, but beguiling and fascinating. Classic Brettanomyces. but positive. secondary aromas are deceptive to tertiary aromas. especially, but spectacular for me.
within 2 hours after decanting, the nose becomes precise, earthy, subtle red fruit (most likely cherry) and some caramel.
on the palate incredibly dense and with impressive length. classic pepper of the syrah. Great. very complex and full of body.

The wine takes a lot of time and can safely store for 10+ years.

the best "red" I know from Italy.

Puh... really bad. 22€, without character and typical terroir. In a blind tasting of experienced guys just one of 4 said it could be a Bordeaux blend (but any region world wide; not Bordeaux).
2 more bottle in my cellar and don’t know what to do with this!

8/24/2018 - Brown11 Likes this wine: 92 points

First: a really nice and drink ripe wine.

Nose: forest soil, mushrooms, essential aromas, hardly any primary fruit, most likely a touch of cassis. Characterized by tertiary aromas.
Palate: typical Rhone, with a little Grenache sweetness. nice length.

could be a bit fuller and a bit longer (see Clos des Papes), but it's just a lot of fun.

I would open the wine now and not wait many more years.

Now wonderful to drink.

Tried only one "early" bottle because I have bought a lot of bottles to store in my cellar for years. A friend told me that this wine is still open. It needs 2 hours but then this fantastic wine opened. Some sweetness of sweet cherry and little cassis. Increadible length... never ending. and so present. Awesome.
Typical provence herbs and just a great structure with a medium body. a powerful and yet so elegant and fine wine. unbelievable ... and, above all, infinitely long. I am looking forward to celebrate these bottles in 20 years.
This Chateauneuf. This is world class. Best QPR in wine (all time charts). I am expecting 98-100 points in 20+years...

I really like it. Hard to find is a good QPR in Bordeaux. Already makes a lot of fun for this price. Real left bank Bordeaux feeling, even when it’s not upper class. Paired with a nice entrecôte and the hour after meal and I had a lot of fun with this. But it’s possible to wait another 3 years for the peak (who really knows)!

So nice, perfect Californian Chardonnay. Not just buttery and fruity. Some coolness and the typical buttery note. Love it - this is the new California which attacks the cool Chardonnay from France. Tasted in a blind tasting against 2015 Meursault: Calfornia wins...

Typical Paulliac nose, being more subtle than in other vintages. Comparatively fruity nose for the age. I advised Chateau Musar on a blind tasting, because a clear assignment was difficult. Very rough tannins on the palate without good integration. Nevertheless ripe. An exciting wine, but not for celebration and pure enjoyment.

Fantastic. Finally an outstanding Italian. A little pipe, dark chocolate, vanilla, herbs in the bouquet dominated by sous-Bous.

On the palate, still a bit rough tannins. Great length. Sour cherry, menthol and sweetness as from southern France.

Overall really impressive, but probably even better in the future.

Unfortunately little bit corked (not completely flawed, but not expressiv as it could be).
But still very nice! Tertiary aromas, little bit of typical Merlot fruit! Nice length!

I am sad just to got one bottle! Even with cork I like and would recommend for 40€ like I paid!
