The color was deep garnet, smell was muted, first sip presented bitter (stems), oak, led pencil, very little fruit. Experience did not change much over the evening. Revisited the next day and there was even less fruit and more oak. Bottles were delivered directly to my temperature controlled storage, so I doubt it was a handling issue on my part. Color and smell provided no suggestion of heat damage for either bottle. Puzzling & disappointing. |

12/27/2015 - Cozmick Does not like this wine: 76 pointsTo compare this with box wine might be overly generous. Good AVA, great year, mediocre wine. This winemaker needs to go back to school and pay attention this time around. |

11/29/2012 - Cozmick wrote: 84 pointsPP Inky Dark blackberry, Jammy nose with a hint of meat, thick over-ripe and overextracted initially almost comparable to grape cough syrup, with about 1-2 hrs time the medicinal quality subsided somewhat and was replaced by a quality similar to (sweet) chewing tobacco. No depth or complexity. I appreciate Aussie (Barosa) Shiraz, but this wine takes the term Jammy to a whole new level. We'll see what day two brings, but I don't have alot of hope. |

10/25/2012 - Cozmick wrote: 87 pointsThis is not what I expected. A lot more than just upfront fruit, there is a considerable amount of structure and body. Maybe this is still a little too young and or it needs to rest a while longer. The mouth feel is quite rich for a Zin, it is chewy but the touch of Petite Syrah slightly overwhelms at the finish. The color almost opaque purple. Some violet and bacon on the nose, which was likely carried forward from the PS but still somewhat confusing for it to dominate up front. Solid black fruit on the palate which transitioned into the chocolate violet and bacon at the mid palate. I enjoy a good PS but suggest that (for a Zin) the mix of PS is a little heavy and highlights characteristics are a little offsetting if you are hoping for a traditional Zin. |

10/25/2012 - Cozmick wrote: 87 pointsMedium dark Ruby red w/ medium high legs, opening of grape, leather, floral scents, immediate sweet concord grape (too sweet for me) followed by herb and dark berry with integrated tannins, very slight acidity on the finish. A good, easy drinking wine at an excellent price point. For my taste it it was a little too sweet up front and lacking the mid palate strength. A touch of cassis or anise would do wonders for this wine. |

I know that it is supposed to retail at a higher price point, but it would compete with many $30+ cabs from the same vintage/region. I'll be buying more if given the opportunity. |

9/17/2011 - Cozmick wrote: 80 pointsI agree with MBMiche... definately thin and underdeveloped. Nothing offensive, but upon first opening it came across as closed with some earth and alchohol but little floral or fruit to the nose. Color was a dark ruby. Flavor profile was mostly heat with very little to offer at mid palate or in length. A simple, inexpensive table wine. The 2007 definately stands above the 2006. |

9/14/2011 - Cozmick wrote: 95 pointsDecanted 30 min. Opaque brackish blue purple, dark blackberry jam and earth on the nose. Smell brings me back 30 years to hot summer evenings in Iowa, picking blackberries down by the river in oppressive summer heat. Smelling that sticky sweet dark berry surrounded by the smell of the river behind me and the smell of earth from the farmers fields just turned. Sounds surreal, but this is where just the smell of this wine took me. I can remember that back then I would fill my mouth with those blackberries about as quickly as I would fill my bucket. Makes it sound like a thick over the top Aussie, but this is not overly contrived Barossa... It evolves with touches of Juniper, basil, espresso, vanilla. It's crazy. This is the reason I drink wine. Huge on the palate, rich toasted oak, coffee, and berry notes on the end. Long, rich finish. I haven't even finished my first glass. How things have changed in 30 years, because I'd be over those blackberries by now (or have emptied that bush), but I want this bottle of WOMS to last tonight, tomorrow... if only I had more than one left in the cellar. |

9/4/2011 - Cozmick wrote: 88 pointsRon W's description nailed my experience with the 2003 Red #1. The bottles that I recently consumed (BP Wine) gave the impression that its on back end of its drinking window... but bottles purchased locally seemed to have a little more length in the mid-palate and less mature. Both were excellant, but the difference might be related to storage/handling. |

5/15/2011 - Cozmick wrote: 85 pointsThe review by bsevern on 4/15/2011 dry, well balanced. To say "Lots" of fruit might be a little strong, as the fruit is subtle and mostly at the mid and back palet... pear, a hint of melon & lite citrus with a hint of toasted wood are spot on descriptions. Tartrates are thick on the cork and will invade your glass if you do not filter or pour with great caution. Good effort and quality QPR. |

4/27/2011 - Cozmick wrote: 88 pointsExcellant color, nose suggests fruit forward, herb and floral understones. As others note, this is surprisingly approachable for such a young wine. It presents similar to an Aussie blend (eg Dooker) albeit a little dry in comparison and without that syrupy thickness. TEvolves nicely over a couple hours... A pleasant QPR surprise from TY & Woot. |
