4/20/2024 - Get Real Likes this wine: 91 pointsDeep colour darkening but no bricking. PnP and a little cool when first served and underwhelmed. Opened up over 3 hours. Kept a half bottle and drank the following week. Suspect peak was in middle but general impression was this has a few years to peak or open a few hours early. Spice on the nose, hint of some tertiary notes. Similar on the palate- spice and dark fruit, still a bit of mouth coating tannins but reasonably soft, medium acidity |

4/22/2024 - Get Real Does not like this wine: 88 pointsStill vibrant colour making it look much younger than 12 years. A little sharp / acidic for me. Opened an hour before and drank over 3 hours with very little development. Despite being the same grapes this had very little in common with Chateauneuf du Pape - limited nose and despite the deep colour felt thinner |

Mild nose - a little spice and vanilla which carried through on the palate with mainly red fruit. Medium bodied with some acidity and tannins that were noticeable but not overpowering. Overall an easy drinking wine |

2/24/2024 - Get Real Likes this wine: 92 pointsDD 2 hours before. A great Rioja. Spice, vanilla and dark fruit on the nose. Still some tannins but generally balanced, smooth palate. Wish I had more of this in my cellar- I expect it will improve but very pleasurable drinking now. |

2011 Château Calon-SégurSt. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more |
2/24/2024 - Get Real Likes this wine: 91 pointsPnP though developed in glass. Based on other reviews this may have improved with more age or air. Deep dark colour, no bricking. Leather, spices and dark fruit on nose and palate. Nice balance of tannin and acid. Overall a classic St Estephe |

12/29/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 92 pointsIn a great place, slow ox for a couple of hours. No detailed notes but still had plenty of sweet fruit together with some tertiary complexity. Drank with an overly young St Emilion grand cru and this far outshone the younger wine. |

1/6/2024 - Get Real Likes this wine: 93 pointsStunningly good - really reaching its peak. Given summer heat I had to cool it slightly but otherwise PnP. Starting to get lighter coloured but no bricking. Savoury notes and fruit on both nose and palate. Tertiary characteristics coming through but still plenty of fruit. Really in a great place right now. |

2007 Chateau Ste. Michelle & Dr. Loosen Riesling Single Berry Select EroicaColumbia Valley more |
12/27/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 91 pointsAlmost the colour of an IPA. Rich, sweet with some complexity- dried figs, honey. Guests loved it and definitely had some complexity but seemed to have limited acid to offset the richness. |

12/22/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 95 pointsOpened a couple of hours before drinking and it improved over the next couple of hours. One of my favourite wines - well in the drinking window but with room to develop. |

2019 Château Grand VillageBordeaux Supérieur Red Bordeaux Blend more |
9/15/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 89 pointsDrinkable now with a long decant but has the structure to be better in a few years. Mainly opened to see whether it was as good as the ratings given how cheap it is. The answer is absolutely amazing QPR - a serious wine at a great price, will buy again. |

2014 Te Whau The PointWaiheke Island Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/20/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 92 pointsOpened one hour before drinking. Tiny bit of sediment and colour thinning at the edge of the glass but primarily a deep purple. Very generous nose of vanilla and dark fruit with a hint of spice. Tannins are reasonably resolved but still a slight coating on the tongue and some edge from acidity. Initial taste matched a review for another vintage which described this as austere - an old school Bordeaux. As it opened out though it became more generous reflecting the intensity- sweet dark fruits to the fore. Very long finish. Will buy again if it shows up at auction. |

1989 Te Mata Estate ColeraineHawke's Bay Red Bordeaux Blend more |
6/17/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 91 pointsLighter in colour with a deep brick red - the colour mainly sits in the sediment now. 2.5 hour slow ox then drank over 1.5 hours. A touch of cedar and spice on the nose. Tannics fully resolved with a light acidity - overall very soft on the palate, an easy drinking wine. Lots of tertiary and umami flavours with a little sweet fruit left. Past its prime but excellent drinking - classic well aged Bordeaux blend. |

6/9/2023 - Get Real wrote: 91 pointsDidn’t like this as much as the previous bottle. Slight bricking but ink dark. A bit of spice and smoke on the nose. Full bodied with mild tannins (and lots of sediment). Still some dark fruit with hints of tertiary notes but the flavour was less intense than expected. Kept some in a half bottle for a few days - got a more expressive nose but also slight sour note. |

1996 Te Mata Estate ColeraineHawke's Bay Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/13/2023 - Get Real wrote: 91 pointsOpened 2.5 hours before pouring but did not decant. Cork was crumbly - fortunately I have a Durand. Tiny hint of old socks on the nose initially but blew off once in the glass. Fading colour but not real bricking. Smooth mature Bordeaux style, still some fruit and some tertiary notes but main impression is of elegance rather than bold flavours. Presumably past peak but not yet any clear deterioration - I think this was better drinking than the 96 Lynch-Bages which was quite austere by comparison. |

1995 Te Mata Estate ColeraineHawke's Bay Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/22/2023 - Get Real Likes this wine: 92 pointsOpened about 3 hours before but possibly needed a little more air. Surprisingly no signs I’m of bricking despite the age. Initially some serious old sock smell but after half an hour in glass that mostly blew off. Modest nose and at the time we probably agreed with WYCROFTFORBURY that this was an enjoyable fully resolved claret but not complex. We then had a 2014 Man o’ War Kulta - a good Bordeaux blend. That seemed very sweet and over the top after the Coleraine. We went back to the Coleraine and showed it the respect it deserved - old school mature Bordeaux which was extremely well balanced with fruit present but definitely fading balanced with fully resolved tannins, moderate acidity and a smokey savoury character. Drink now but it was in surprisingly good condition |
