An OK wine. I poured a half bottle through an aerator and into decanter, per usual, where it sat for 30 minutes before drinking. Not a lot on the nose. Plenty of cherry in the mouth, but little else. If you have any, drink up. And recommend just a pop and pour.

My first time with this bottling, and we're on both Bedrock's and Carlisle's lists. Poured through an aerator where it sat close to 90 minutes before we took out first sips.

Mrs. Newsguy's first word: "What?!!?"

Then she said nothing for a while. then: "This is a wine that demands attention."

I agree. This wine is really impressive. You immediately want to stop what you're doing to ponder it.

Great balance. Big, juicy RRV zin fruit, but with enough tannin and acidity to support it. Definitely not a fruit bomb.

Rich, with a great mouthfeel. It doesn't come off as too big. Also really good complexity and nd a 45-second-plus finish.

So cool to see what Bedrock does with fruit from Carlisle's home vineyard. Look forward to tasting side-by-side with Carlisle's 2019 version of this. Of course, now I just have to find bottles of both.

Suggest decanting at least 1 hour if drinking anytime soon. Expect it to really blossom over the next 2-3 years.

94 points now, but can see this improving a point or two with more time.

NOTE: I originally posted this by mistake on the 2019 Carlisle Bedrock Zin thread. Sorry!!!

I've unfortunately drank three of our four bottles of this, and none of them did much for me. I LOVE this winemaker's AXR cab. But this comes off to me as disjointed even after decanting and time. The stuffing's in there, but I don't know when it will come together or what it will finally be. So for now, 88 points.

I've yet to have a bottle of a good 2019 Cali cab that has really come across as ready to drink young -- the opposite of the 2018 vintage. My experience with them is they've been drinking very well young and still have potential to get much better with time. Since I'm not looking for long-term agers, I'm going to start looking for more 2018s.

Another 2019 that needs time. Have drank two bottles of this over the past six months. As usual, poured through an aerator and into a decanter. Needed 2 hours to really come together, but is a delicious Right Banker when it does. 92+ points. Glad we have four bottles left, and don't plan on opening another one this year. Hope I can stick to that. I need more Bordeaux cellar defenders.

I've had two of our three bottles over the past year, and a similar, disappointing experience with both. Poured through an aerator into a decanter, but tannin and acid overpowered the dark fruits and spices. No major improvement even after an hour or two. 89 points.

Quite surprised that folks say the drinking window of this opened in 2020. I'd give this at least another year or two before opening a bottle. But better yet, another five. That's when I hope to open our final one. Assuming this truly does come toigether, it should have a pretty long life ahead.

This is a nine-year-old bottling that still wants more time. We've drank two bottles of this in the past year. Both were poured through an aerator and into a decanter. Started tasting after 1 hour or so, and still acid and tannin were keeping the fruit down. Only after two hours did they come into better balance and really show what lies ahead: a really nice Right Bank Bordeaux blend, but with Napa fruit. 30% merlot, 26% cab franc, 18% cab sauv, 18% malbec, 8% petit verdot. Definitely a food wine and a great pairing with steak.

Strongly suggest decanting for at least two hours -- or waiting another couple years for this to enter its prime drinking window. Only upper-80s after one hour in the decanter. But after two-plus hours, a solid 92. Glad we have two more bottles left. Best 2025-2030.

Poured through an aerator into a decanter. After 90 minutes, tried first glass. Solid BDM, with plenty of structure and the fruit peeking through. Really needs food, but that shouldn't be a surprise. Starts to really come together and becomes more polished 2-3 hours in. Our only bottle of this. If I had another, would decant a minimum of 2 hours. Better yet, hold for at least 2-3 years. 91 points.

Poured through an aerator and into a decanter. Smelled delicious (with violets) and definitely cab franc (80% plus 20% merlot). Based on TNs here, decanted for 2 hours before tasting.

I found the nose had scaled back quite a bit. In the mouth, it was less than I expected. Earth/herb/vegetal plus some dark fruit. After another hour (3 total in decanter), it smoothed out in the mouth. Definitely modern style.

This was my only bottle. If I had more, would definitely taste some immediately after pouring into a decanter. Might do better with less than 2 hours in the decanter, or simply wants 3 hours or more. Or more years in the cellar. I'd recommend the latter. 91 points.

Poured the bottle through aerator and into decanter: "Damn, that smells like class!" Started drinking 30 minutes later. This wine shows great pedigree. It's seamless and elegant, with great balance and a wonderful mouthfeel. This is from a producer I'd never heard of, and came in part of a "Mystery Case" from Last Bottle. I'm really surprised how well this is drinking at this young age. I haven't found that to be the case so far with any other 2019 California cabs in this class. I strongly prefer the 2018s. This works with or without food, and it best days are still ahead of it. 91 points.

We've had two of the six bottles I've bought, and my score is based on potential. I hadn't read any of these TNs, and I'm surprised to see drinkers found this more ready to drink that I do. It has all the elements in place, but it definitely needs some time to come together. The first bottle in May was all over the place while we drank over two hours. Second bottle seemed like it was a bit better, especially with time. But I'm definitely not opening our next bottle for at least another year or so. I expect this will really come into its own around 2025-26. When it hits its stride, see it at 91+.

Poured a bottle through an aerator and into a decanter. Began drinking about 45 minutes later. Dark fruits and surprising perfume. Lots of acidity (plus some tannin), so this really needs food with it right now to show its best. Not too complex, but this is a very nice Nebbiolo that's drinking quite well for its young age. It's one of those wines that makes me always say "We need to drink more Italian reds."

A friend brought this over; but a quick search shows its average price is $21. And it's apparently hard to find in the US. I'd buy a case at that price if I could find it. 90 points,

Poured half a bottle through an aerator into a decanter. Sniffed and sipped 30 minutes later: Clearly Merlot from Sonoma. Plum with some cherries. Still good acidity to pair well with food. Resolved tannin. At peak. Could perhaps improve a bit, but no reason to think it will. Drink over the next two years.

Rodney Strong consistently produces varietally correct wines at a reasonable price, regardless of the grape, across vintages. Well done. 89 points.

Poured half a bottle through an aerator and into a decanter, where it sat for 30 minutes before tasting. Excellent floral/perfume, primary dark fruit aromas. Not as dark in the decanter as I expected.

Tastes wonderful. Florals and dark-ish liqueur-like fruit, plus spices. Mouthfeel is lavish, and perfect acidity supports the big fruit. Oak frames the wine but is hardly noticeable. Finish is 40 seconds, expanding and seamless. Only notice slight, very fine tannin at the end.

This wine reeks of class. One of my absolute favorite RRV syrahs. Simply delicious and likely to improve (and add complexity) over the next few years. But when it's drinking like this now, why wait? Bravo, Mike, Kendall and team. You never let me down. 93-95.

This wine is barely starting to show some age. colorwise. Through an aerator and decanted for 45 minutes before pouring first glass. Folks, this smelled and tasted better with every sniff and sip over the following hour-plus. A dark fruited pinot, with all sorts of spices. Incredible mouthfeel, and still expanding a bit from start to finish. Seamless, with perfect balance. and a 45-second finish.

This is one of the best pinots I've ever had. And Antiquum's wines are all truly unique, tasting different from those by any other producer I've tried. Not just Oregon and CA, but Burgundy and New Zealand as well. 95 points today, and I expect this will remain on the upswing for another two years at least before holding quite a while.

You want to have a pinot with your steak? This will do the job, though it absolutely rocked some marinated grilled pork kabobs.

Don’t drink this wine yet.

Ok, now that I’ve said the most important part, let’s proceed.

My first try of this bottling, after finally being offered some via the mailing list. I knew I was opening this too soon. But couldn’t help myself.

Poured a half bottle through an aerator and into a decanter. Started sampling at 90-minute mark. Lots of dark fruits, spices, mouth coating, yet impeccably balanced. Plenty of fine tannin that became more drying over time. Nose never opened up that much, even 2.5 hours in, but the palate was strong from the first sip.

Do yourself a favor (and give this wine the due it deserves): Don't open your first bottle until 2024, decant well, and then get your baseline on when to drink going forward. Don’t waste a bottle like I did. I guarantee this will be a much better wine at 5 years of age, and I bet the real fireworks will start a couple years after that. Potential of 93-94. This bottling has class. Well done, Morgan.
