12/28/2023 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 92 pointsStarting to show signs of age after a couple hours of decanting. More camphor and menthol on the nose than before and tannins are fully resolved. Good finish but not as lengthy. Drink now or in the next year if you want there to be some fruit left. |

3/30/2023 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 98 pointsSecond time having this and it did not disappoint. Nose is showing more notes of ripe and dried, dark fruits, with white pepper and lilac at the top. The palate is bright and juicy, electric and expressive. Blockbuster fruit with sweet, red fruit coated tannins on the mid-palate outlined by a cola berry, spice-cake-like expression of finesse. Tannins are present, coming in waves between silky and sticky. The finish is like picking up a kaleidoscope at sunset for the first time. Truly a spectacular wine. |

3/1/2023 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 94 pointsPnp and enjoyed over 2 hours. Rich, lush, balanced. Good polish and fine structure. Displays a bit more than the stated 40% new oak, but well integrated. Solid finish and exhibits a lingering finesse of fruit, earth, and minerality. Will get more and enjoy to enjoy over next few years. I like the fruit now, but think a couple years will really make this shine like a 95+. |

2/9/2023 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 94 pointsSurprisingly bold and rich for a Pinot Noir. I am not a big fan of PN, but this is great for a Cab lover like me. Lot of red and black fruits, incredible mouthfeel, long finish. Good acid and overall balance. Showed the best after decanting for a couple hours. Holding the remaining bottles I have to try over the next few years. 94+ for now with the strong upside for a nother point or two with age. |

6/11/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 96 pointsPNP and then decanted. Out of the bottle this showed beautifully. There is a brightness and a contrasting depth that allows this wine to unfold with great power and balance on the palate. As it opens it gets better and better. Great fruit, balance and finesse. Even some floral notes on the nose and in the aftertaste. Great structure, still showing youth but not as much as 2-4 years ago when I had the previous bottles. 2-3 more years and this wine will likely hit 98pts for me. Right now it is a sure 96 with the upside of time to refine a bit more. |

2013 Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland SelectNapa Valley more |
6/11/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 90 pointsEnjoyed over two nights. First pour (Coravined) decanted over an hour. Nice dark fruits and plum notes, but a little past ripe. Low acidity and almost no red fruits left. A hint of chocolate left(last bottled enjoyed 2 years ago and was more prevent). Second night (pulled cork after resting 24hrs after coravining in cellar) this wine was dead. Enjoyed next to Venge Family Reserve 2014 and Duckhorn The Discussion 2013. Of all the Cakebread wines Ive had, 2013 is definitely not the vintage where they shine. The 07-10’s right now are breathtaking. Some of the 12’s and 14-15’s are also showing well. The Vine Hill Ranch from this and mist other vintages is a better bet at this point. |

6/11/2022 - CGC2012 wrote: 89 pointsPurchased direct from winery and stored in climate controlled cellar. Opened and tasted then decanted for 1.5hrs. First taste at open was very nondescript. Good but unremarkable. Over the 1.5hrs it opened up a lot, but never displayed the finesse other vintages have. This had a very delicate personality with decent structure. If paired with food, it will likely fold. On it’s own it is solid but not as expressive as I expected. The 2000’s of Three Palms Merlot and cabs are far more enjoyable. This wine did not have much to discuss. |

6/10/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 97 pointsShowing beautifully and enjoyed at a great peak. Ive had several bottles of this over the past 4+ years and can say this is really hitting its stride! Blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, & loads of Cassis. Just exceptional purity and depth. Great acidity and brightmess to contrast the dark fruit bomb this is. Wish I had more… |

6/10/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery well balanced and after a 2hr decant, the finish was very long and seamless. Tannins have melted away and are perfectly integrated. Still some fruit, but more secondary notes now. Out of the 4 vintages Ive had (05’, 09’, 12’, & 13’), this 2012 was my favorite. Drink now or in next couple years if you like balance and fruit still in your Cabs. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

6/10/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 93 pointsTasted alongside 2012 Cask 23 and 2014 Caldwell Tannat. This has the most ripe fruit and a bit too much VA for my taste. Well balanced on the palate, you can see MR’s blending expertise shining here. Nice finish maybe 20-25 seconds. Overall a solid wine but hot on the nose for a wine of this caliber. |

5/23/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 95 pointsPurple and black fruits with big body. Tasted with friends next to Sloan 2013 and Matthew Dempsey Wines 2019 Cabernets. Of the three, this had great structure, dense fruit, and was the second favorite. Sweet tannins and round mouthfeel. Still young and punchy with concentration and structure. Long finish but a bit dry and chalky tannins. At 2 hrs decanting, it is still chewy and think a few more years will do it well. |

5/23/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 93 pointsBlack fruits all around. Great structure and presence upon entry. Tasted with a few friends alongside Schrader RBS 2014 and Matthew Dempsey Wines 2019 Cabernets. Out of the 3, this had the most mouthfeel and tannic structure up front. Lots of dark fruits and balsamic notes and bittersweet chocolate. Solid finish, but not at long as the other two. After 2 hrs of decanting, this wine still seemed closed up. I tasted the 2009 a year ago and was showing flawlessly. I think this needs more time to balance out. 94 pts now with upside after more ageing. |

5/24/2022 - CGC2012 Likes this wine: 96 pointsShowing really well for such a young wine. Big fruit and concentration. Tasted alongside Sloan 2013 and Schrader RBS 2014 with a few cab loving friends. On the nose this is complex and layered with red and black fruits and a slight herbal/spicy note. This Cab had softer tannins at first, but over the 2 hrs of decanting, showed some massive hidden structure. Tannins are well integrated, sweet and silky at first, then powdery and grippy with air. Of the 3 wines tasted this night, this had the longest finish and most expressive personality. Collectively the group of 5 tasters gave this a 96pts. Looking forward to seeing this with another year or two of age. |
