This wine is deeply impressive.
When I reached out for the glass for the first time, I thought that someone had just applied their eau de parfum to the glass. After a moment of complete distraction, I came to realize that the spice, fruit and flower bomb was the wine itself. I have to admit I cannot think of a wine that has a nose this expressive. It is hard te describe, but it's fresh herbs, pure red and blue fruits, spices, flowers, flinty minerals and what not. It's ethereal. Although the nose of the wine stands out the most, the wine is sufficiently powerful, distinctive and elegant. On the palate, the wine is expressive and persistent but yet balanced and pure. The purity and aromatic complexity are probably illustrative of the quality of the vine material, the attention and care given to the vines and the artisanship in the cellar. Also the use of oak seems well thought and and balanced. It really does punch above it's weight as this is 'only' a village level wine. The wine keeps developing in the glass, showing new layers over time. This is a wine that just seizes you till the last drop. An unforgettable wine; the pinnacle of what wine can be.

Mr. Kelley, thank you for your attribution to the world of wine, both in word and (this) wine!

The structure of the 99 is still apparent, tending to make the wine a more classical Claret. Some nice freshness remaining, notable graphite and minerality. Nice intensity.

A very nice showing of Poyferré. The tricky final part of the ripening season made this a real Merlot-vintage. It is therefore no surprise that 98 suits LP perfectly. Expressive, soft, lush fruits; a real ‘smoothie’. Proper structure, good balance. Drinking very well.

Compared to the 95, the acidity of the 96 stands out. Because of the acidity but the wine has a more lively, fresh and energetic character. The 96 is probably perfect for a pairing with a proper dish.

A straightforward Saint-Julien from the books: rich blue fruit, decent structure, integrated but soothing oak. The 95 is drinking very well currently.

The 1990 showed again as a magnificent, monumental wine. On point aromatics, refined nose, delicate red fruits, could easily be mistaken for high-end Burgundy. Perfectly integrated tannins, well balanced, elegant and expressive. The wine also showed decent intensity and longevity.

Impressive wine, expressive and aromatic. The oak was still quite apparent, but gave the wine attractive sweetness and fullness. Approachable and likable wine.

Full bodied and still well structured. An attractive wine, Saint-Julien pur sang: velvety blueberries and graphite. Power and persistency. This wine is in a very nice drinking window right now.

A rich and fruity but funky wine. The 85 seemed a little more vegetal and animal compared to the other wines from this decade.

A proper claret. Not as rich as the 82 and a tad more on the dry-side: spicier, cigar box-cedarwood and more red than blue fruits.

Appealing nose. Well balanced, plum, ripe blue fruits. This 82 is a round, subtle, fully integrated wine. This wine should be drunk, aromatics are beginning to fade.

PnP. Cedarwood and roses. Typical 75: the structure outlives the fruit. Still a fine wine.

An absolute gem of a wine. Very fragrant nose. Tertiary, but still some nice freshness and fruit. Refined, ripe red fruit, raspberry and violets. Elegant and perfumed.

Opened 24 hours prior. Explosive nose, so much density: red fruits, caramel, brushwood, pepper, bacon, mint etc. etc. Layered tastes of dried red fruits, herbs, leather, and roses. Intense and endless aftertaste. What a joy! They only downside: 15% ABV, it is for sure a heavy hitter and you kind of taste the southern France sunrays. Nevertheless, the legend is true, stunning wine.

This wine really made me question the relevance of Grand Cru's. PnP and drank over the course of four hours. The aroma's of dark red fruits, cherry, plum, flowers and spice are endless, fresh and exuberant (& remind me of Christmas). The palate is sufficiently dense and balanced. Powerful, spicy aftertaste with a slight grip of well-integrated tannins. This wine absolutely blew my mind. Delicious now but will develop over time.

The colour is still intense, with a brownish rim in the glass. Very aromatic and expressive, red and blue fruits, cherry, oak and a lot of spice. Relatively high adicity with a a lot of precision. Well integrated tannins. Intense and long aftertaste. Drinking very nicely: slightly developed aroma’s but still fruit and freshness.

Still quite dark. Sweet fruit, cloves, vanilla, caramel. Nice depth, intensity and length. A decent amount of remaining acidity provides a good balance. Without a doubt still a very pleasurable wine.

On it’s last legs, but what a wine. Pale red, like old pinot. The nose is tremendously perfumed and aromatic. Roses, cedar, sweet red fruit. Really elegant. Tannins still there. Decent acidity. Aftertaste is ok. Impressive and enjoyable wine.

Dusty, earthy, smokey nose. Dry, tannic, sweet red fruits, raisins, tobacco and pepper. Concentrated and powerfull, still needs some oxygen to open up, but it generally lacks finesse and grandeur. I guess the fruit will not outlive the tannins.

2/13/2023 - PoyferrAgent1998 Likes this wine: 93 points

Like the 2010 Corton Charlemagne, this white from Ponsot is kind of old fashioned, but without a doubt an amazing wine. On the nose very expressive, ripe tropical fruits. Nutty, almond, pineapple, anise. Amazing acidity and balance. Endless aftertaste. But still, the feeling is that the potential of a true Montrachet is not fully reached.

The whites from Ponsot tend to be a little old fashioned, are ripe and full bodied and miss vibrancy. Both on the nose and palate quite closed, took time to open up in the glass. Ripe, mellow tropical fruits, pear, aromatic, nice acidity, good aftertaste.
