10/26/2019 - ISOPinot Likes this wine: 85 pointsDeep purple, good clarity, minimal rim variation. Medium legs. Black fruit is key to aroma: blackberry, blueberry. Followed by moderate plum, light toast, oak, clove, eucalyptus and a hint of cocoa, not chocolate. On the palate, this wine takes its time in revealing the spice and cocoa while the dark fruits are there. Medium body, silky/smooth texture, medium finish and acidity. Overall impression: at or just past prime. Balanced and a bit mysterious, for lack of a better term. Unlike many Petite Sirahs, this wine is neither heavily extracted nor intense. At $35, the QPR is clearly below average. Still, glad we bought it on a trip to Paso about 7 years ago. Drink now. |

5/20/2017 - deetz Likes this wine: 92 pointsRecommend serving just above cellar temp, otherwise the alcohol starts to feel a little hot. Black raspberry, herbs, and sweet cedar on the nose. Palate has decent acid and just a hint of tannins at this point, although starting to lose structure. Despite this, the finish has one of the most remarkably distinctive flavors of dusty cocoa covered cherries I have every tasted...truly delicious. This is definitely at its prime now. I think it will hold for another couple years without much decline, but I see no reason to hold this given where its at now. |

Some fleeting floral notes, around a core of blackberry pie and some sweet cedar notes. Big, but not clunky. Very enjoyable on its own or with food. |

Focused notes of garden herbs (rosemary, basil, menthol, mustard seed, thyme), sun-dried tomatoes, cola, butterscotch, and a bit of game meat and blueberry pie. (Not all these aromas at the same time, the wine definitely evolved in the glass/slow ox in bottle over 2 hours.) |

I am not too familiar with the characteristics of petit verdot, so too me this was a very good full bodied floral and herby red with enough fruit that made it good on its own. Palate is smooth and steady all to way to a nice med-length finish. On a blind test I would have put this as a $25-30 bottle, very nice QPR. |
