Heavy juice. Nicer tertiary components arising with age but still some heat. Could settle into something great in a few years or may have already peaked.

What a great buy at $30. Only dark red in color with no black, but the taste lacks nothing. Wonderfully delicious, firm tannin, juicy acidity, smooth texture, big and bright blackberry and black cherry fruit. Concentrated and very long, with 5 more years of superb near peak drinking left. Coats the entire back of the mouth and throat when swallowed.

PnP chilled, 15 mins glass time, served blind. Clear, light straw color. Notes remain the same but this one drank a point better.

No notes taken but it was amazingly delicious, a lovely ride from bouquet to afterglow. It reminded me of the first time I tasted Chambertin.

Big Pinot. Seems pretty extracted. Won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

PnP chilled. Clear, deep straw color. Muted nose until warmed up, then typical Chard fruit. Fairly clean, med flavor intensity, more mid grade. Fruity, not oaky or extracted. Simple but satisfying, nothing off. Decent finish, nothing off. $38.

This was really delicious. A super Pinot, more in the style of Meiomi than a red burgundy. Loved it. Thanks Sam!

Aroma: cassis, menthol, cherries, blackberries, dried figs, very fruit forward on the nose and earthy.
Palate: ripe fruits, dried cranberries, medium tannins, smooth and well-rounded acidity with a medium to long finish.
This is a super dark Pinot almost Bordeaux looking. Paired with a truffle cheddar. While it’s not a bad pairing, it doesn’t elevate the wine in any way. It’s a one dimensional and not a very complex wine but tasty. 89

Very acidic, unpleasant finish. Not much depth or complexity. Surprised and disappointed, drinks like a cheap Sauvignon Blanc.

Tons of cranberry and raspberry on the nose. The fruit dominates the nose, with some nice spice on the finish. Super long finish. Delicious RRV Pinot that is drinking beautifully now.

Light, dull garnet color. Fairly light nose of mashed red fruits and old apples. This intriguing Pinot features notes of crabapples and musty apples on the attack followed by a fruit confectionary explosion. Delicious:

Popped and poured, this was awesome. Great complexity. Classic RRV Pinot, but a really nice expression of what a wine like this is supposed to taste like.

2016 Tuck Beckstoffer Chardonnay Semper Fort Ross

Tasty and aromatic- but I can't help but feel this wine kind of misses the point. The fruit comes from the Fort Ross Seaview AVA, which is a cool (for California) climate growing area thrown into dramatically high elevation very close to the Pacific. The soil is poor, much of the land is good only for growing grass that sheep graze on, and there are constant cooling breezes coming from the ocean. The land is rugged, and the best wines channel this terroir into the nose and palate. In my opinion, a good Fort Ross Seaview should be linear, focused, precise, low-ish alcohol, and able to conjure the sea to mind. Similar to the way Chablis reminds one of chalk and sea life. Sometimes Fort Ross Seaview will taste like a beautiful warm day on a rocky beach, others will call to mind a chilling sea spray, but this wine tastes like it was born, bred, and matured, on the fertile warm Napa Valley floor next to a bunch of pistachio and pomegranate trees. There is lots of oak (quality and well integrated but too much for me), and the wine skews warm and tropical. The label on the back says 14.5% alcohol. The taste is rich and creamy. There is too much heat, too much alcohol, too much malo. It isn't unenjoyable, but I'd rather spend 1/4 the price and drink a Kendall Jackson if I wanted oaky warm California Chardonnay.
