Wonderfully delicious, firm tannin, juicy acidity, smooth texture, big and bright blackberry and black cherry fruit. Concentrated and very long, with 5 more years of superb near peak drinking left. Coats the entire back of the mouth and throat when swallowed. |

7/31/2022 - Barry Notes Likes this wine: 90 pointsPnP chilled. Clear, deep straw color. Muted nose until warmed up, then typical Chard fruit. Fairly clean, med flavor intensity, more mid grade. Fruity, not oaky or extracted. Simple but satisfying, nothing off. Decent finish, nothing off. $38. |

12/27/2020 - TexasBob Likes this wine: 91 pointsLight, dull garnet color. Fairly light nose of mashed red fruits and old apples. This intriguing Pinot features notes of crabapples and musty apples on the attack followed by a fruit confectionary explosion. Delicious: |

8/29/2020 - NoahCap wrote: NRTasty and aromatic- but I can't help but feel this wine kind of misses the point. The fruit comes from the Fort Ross Seaview AVA, which is a cool (for California) climate growing area thrown into dramatically high elevation very close to the Pacific. The soil is poor, much of the land is good only for growing grass that sheep graze on, and there are constant cooling breezes coming from the ocean. The land is rugged, and the best wines channel this terroir into the nose and palate. In my opinion, a good Fort Ross Seaview should be linear, focused, precise, low-ish alcohol, and able to conjure the sea to mind. Similar to the way Chablis reminds one of chalk and sea life. Sometimes Fort Ross Seaview will taste like a beautiful warm day on a rocky beach, others will call to mind a chilling sea spray, but this wine tastes like it was born, bred, and matured, on the fertile warm Napa Valley floor next to a bunch of pistachio and pomegranate trees. There is lots of oak (quality and well integrated but too much for me), and the wine skews warm and tropical. The label on the back says 14.5% alcohol. The taste is rich and creamy. There is too much heat, too much alcohol, too much malo. It isn't unenjoyable, but I'd rather spend 1/4 the price and drink a Kendall Jackson if I wanted oaky warm California Chardonnay. |
