  Basically drinks like liquid rock. On day one it’s textbook cold-vintage Chablis with chalk on chalk, beautiful but unyielding. I dig it, and will take this over overt reduction or oxidation any day, but it’s not for everyone. On day two there’s some honeydew, apricot, lemon and white flowers breaking through. Stunning, very complete, loads of acid, this is my plutonic ideal of Chablis. I’ve been hating on Chardonnay lately but this is 😚🤌🏽🫡🤙🏽🤤

  I'm beginning to think there's a 'race to the reduction' when it comes to still chardonnay. Everything I've read lately is all gung ho about 'matchstick reduction' or something comparable. At some point there's got to be a limit. This wine exemplifies that. On day one it's kind of cool because it's a veneer over the monstrous 14.5% abv. But hard to really glean any fruit. Day 2 with a decant still impenetrable. Day 3 there's finally shed in the reduction, allowing some meyer lemon, kumquat, quince and licorice to show, but by then the alcohol has also come to the forefront, and there's not enough acidity (a la Maison Valette, whose Chardonnays are also this ripe) to ease the onslaught. I'm still a fan of Labet's ethereal reds, but this is my strike 3 on the secondary value of the whites.

  Crazy elegant, nothing about this wine blind would suggest a natty icon. Definitely higher acid than the Grenache (and Grenache blanc) based stuff they’re known for.
  
  Black raspberry, grape, smoked sausage. Mourvedre really is a fun little grape when not harvested super late. Nothing secondary yet but the rest of the case will have plenty of time to develop.
  
  Not sure I’d buy another case in the future but it’s a lovely wine, and I’m excited to watch this one develop.
