Introduction

This tasting was about Irancy, to the southwest of Chablis. Interesting to taste cool climate pinot noir from Burgundy's most nothern appellations with allot of hot vintages coming up, i believe this region is in favor with climate change.

Flight 1 - Irancy Mix Bag (5 Notes)

  • 2014 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Irancy 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côtes d'Auxerre, Irancy

Typical 2014 . vegetal. high acidity. racy.
and the acidity brings out the astringency. Tannins are clearly present.
Straight from the bottle on a too low temperature was not so enjoyable on the pallet. Nose was amazing from moment one: marsannay kind of nose. Absence of the weird pommegrenate / wild red fruit / horse raddish kind of aromas that i find in most dauvissat's reds.

Later the pallet became much more enjoyable. Good length. balance was still a bit off with a too pronounced acidity but ok.

  • 2015 David Renaud Irancy Irancy "Les Mazelots" 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côtes d'Auxerre, Irancy

Very complete wine from top vineyard in irancy. Complete south facing from a good vintage. Fruit, smoke, chocolate / cacao, griottes, cranberry. Lovely power en intensity. Good acidity. def. enough freshness for a warmer vintage.
more polished and oaked then other producers in de region (dauvissat and Richoux).

    Typical for the vintage.
direct. giving. generous fruit. Super open en enjoyable.
But def. not flabby with good substance. Not super layered and complex but also def. not flat or one dimensional. Superb wine from a very hot vintage. well done

  • 2014 Thierry Richoux Irancy Veaupessiot 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côtes d'Auxerre, Irancy

Very Balanced. Very thoughtful. high quality , good structure and potential. Doesnt give itself as willingly due to the reductive wine making. David Renaud en Dauvissat make more open styles. This is more reserved and needs more time. The wine is clearly still in a youthfull phase.
