9/27/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: 92 pointsA glint light gold color. Same dusty nose after opening. Melon fruit and citrus along with marshmallow and another wonderful scent I wasn’t able to identify. Palate is medium bodied with a nice balance between zippy fruit and creamy oak. The fruit is showing a little spice here too. This ends clean with lemon zest and not too much heat. 92+ |

9/10/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: 93 pointsPurple violet brightening out to the rim. Deep bouquet showing garrigue, chocolate and spicy dark plum fruit and herbs. On the second and third day notes of licorice emerged. Smooth entry, bursting mid palate with some spicy raspberry and liquid mineral streaks. Nice long finish. Great right after pulling the cork but ended up shutting down after a ½ hour or so. Refrigerated the remainder air-tight and drank over two days – it was best on Day 3. So early but so impressive. |

9/20/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: 93 pointsDeep, dark ruby core that brightens up closer to the rim where it shows a slight amber fade. Restrained nose that takes much coaxing. Spicy, then bursts of gorgeous floral scents along with some off notes of alcohol and sulfer. Picked up some mint as well. The palate is where it's at. Spicy red stewed fruits along with some medicinal cherry flavors that are in harmony with the oak. Very smooth and showing great length. The finish is sweet and ends with a stony mineral streak. Mercurial and exciting to drink. The last glass was like a different wine. Picked up a hint of caramel in the bouquet. The palate is quite a mouthful with mocha and caramel wrapping the fruit. Now the finish is a little empty with some heat and a dark mineral finish. All throughout the wine displays lovely balance and astringency. Very complimentary with food but delicious all by itself. Drank equally over two days. TNs are from Day 2. |

9/22/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: 89 pointsTransluscent ruby with a slight orange fade at the rim. Very glossy. Strong notes of iron and blood upon opening then a restrained bouquet showing cherry, cherry pit and a bit a cinnamon. Sweet cherry on the entry and mid-palate. Simple, very pure and tangy. Finish is short and clean with a dry stoniness. This has a powerful tannic structure that will out-live the fruit. Drank over two days with consistent notes. On Day 2 the tannins softened a bit making this a little more enjoyable to drink. |

9/20/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: NRRuby with a little orange/brown hue. A pleasant herbal bouquet with some charcoal notes. Palate is smooth with sappy red fruit and roasted chestnut. A black coffee note on the finish. Not sure if this was cooked or just bottle variation. |

8/24/2009 - Kevin_C wrote: 91 pointsPulled the cork, decanted for sediment and poured back into the bottle. Consumed one hour later at a proper serving temperature. Fresh, showing a lovely perfume with nuances of charred wood. A dark fruit profile, mostly plum, is subdued -- it's part of the bouquet but in the background. Some high notes of juicy red berries break out -- again, reminding me of Hawaiian Punch. Full and concentrated mid-palate with a good underlying structure. The dark fruit carries over into a deep, spicer finish with rubbery mineral notes adding complexity. The finish lingers on with fine tannins drying out on the tongue. The heat I'm picking up on the finish is certainly worth tolerating. I had low expectations for this based on where and why I purchased the bottle and how I subsequently stored it for the last eight months. I'm impressed to say the least. [91+] |
