Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, sweet and salty licorice, chocolate as well as sweet spices. On the palate a lot of pleasant sweetness in the start followed by good and juicy acidity and good garrigue and soft, round tannin. Delicious wine which is at its peak now and there is no real hurry.

Quite dark red; dark berries, tobacco, licorice; lots of tobacco, very masculine, lots of spices, some sweetness underneath, “dark” “winter” “cold”, some tannins; needs air, at least an hour; not sure what to make of it, somehow too much and not really in balance, like the sweetness in the aftertaste, but the tobacco is overwhelming

This is a gorgeous wine. Soft, silky, feminine -- but with a peppery bite. Merlot-like smoothness in the texture. Pretty aromas of chocolate, prunes, leather, pepper, and hops. It's nice when a wine comes together like this and tastes so right. Drink now.

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ PdV): Beautiful wine with good garrigue in the expressive bouquet. On the palate beautiful dark berries, some chocolate, garrigue, good acidity and tannin. Overall a beautiful wine in its adolescent stage.

Tasted blind. Lots of smoked meat and pepper on the nose, along with ripe blackberry. Juicy texture with peppery accents. Good balance between sweet and sour. Apple flavor on the finish. Moderate drying tannins. Could age much longer. Rating: 93

Guess the wine. Syrah. Northern Rhone. ~10 years old.

Non-Blind p.s.: This wine is 50% grenache / 50% syrah. It's different from the weighty, low-acidity CdPs I'm used to drinking. I think it shows how juicy and vibrant syrah is compared to grenache (and how big and rich grenache is compared to syrah).

Complex and dense, though showing its age on the nose. Very good but doubt this will improve any further. Drink up!

Though lacking in complexity, this wine was very enjoyable. Deep dark royal garnet appearance, slow legs that just didn't want to move consistent with the label 15% alcohol. The nose was just amazing. Deep red and black fruits. A pleasure just to sit and drink in those aromas without even tasting the wine. The palate showed good acidity and still some firm tannins - very well balanced. A lot of zing at the front of the tongue but little at the sides. Blackberries and some spice - no leather or grass in this wine. Some heat for sure. On the shorter side of a medium finish. There was little to no evolution of the wine over the next two hours. It remained very pleasant but nothing new really emerged.

Beautiful wine. Not overdone, a somewhat cool reflection of the vintage. Meaty Syrah notes and Grenache garrigues. Not too sweet, oak is well integrated. Ripe tannins.

Not the kind of wine that we have much use for anymore. But still, with rib eye on the grill, of course it works. The meaty Syrah component mirrors raw red-meat flavours, and the sweet/alcoholic Grenache is tempered by the caramelized surface of the meat. On its own, the perceived sweetness is pretty dominant. But the small oak is really well integrated, the tannins are ripe and pleasant, and the finish not at all disturbingly hot. Furthermore, this '07 is in a good spot on its development curve. Just watch the temperature, it is best enjoyed at 15 C.

Rich on the nose with lots of ripe dark fruit, cherry liqueur, smoke, sweet spices. On the palate powerful with lots of concentration, ripe and soft tannins, good acidity, a bit of heat. Better balanced than the last bottle. Fine length. Drink or keep. 90-92

Glossy, dark, hardly any sign of evolution in terms of colour. Expressive and complex on the nose - kirsch liqueur, animal notes, meat, sweet spices, rich fruit - very concentrated and intense. Really big on the palate, sweet, spicy with decent acidity, but still a bit heavy and hot. Soft tannins, good length, but overall a little unbalanced and chunky. 90-92

Opens a bit bland, nice aromas but not telling very much about grapes or origin. Nice fruit, some leather, asian spice and darkish herbs. Everything is nice but middle of the road. But, after one hour in the decanter and nother 45 minutes in the glass it becomes more interesting when the fruit gets nuances, raspberries mix with dark red cassis, a tad kirsch, something meaty, and characteristic nori/seaweed/garrigue arrives. Surprisingly fine acidity, tannins that are ripe and there to give backbone to the lush fruit. A tad to the warm side, but not hot. I'd give it at least another years rest. 89-ish to begin, more 92-ish when finally opening up.

Though certainly not a wine for the faint hearted, this effort certainly keeps you from whining. It represents a style found in some of the more powerful Chateauneufs with massive red fruit, but there is still a lightness to be found. Kirsch, structure and dark red fruits add to the experience. The palate is voluptuous with soft round tannins and awaits future integration as the wine settles a little bit more. A wonderful wine, which should be served at about 15-16 degrees Celsius. (Scored blind without proper food.)
