Dark ruby, dusty on the nose. round and soft on tannins, medium to heavy body. great fruit, cherries, licorice, cedar. great with/without food. although not ideal with sausage pasta - light on tannins. Drinking great in 2020 - keep on drinking this one

Color: deep ruby with purple reflexes
Nose: ripe blueberry and blackberry. As well as dark cherry. I get a little belpepper right when opened, the this subsides. I get vanilla, cola, baking spice. Candied violet, interesting gas nuances
Palate: lively medium-high tannins and medium acidity, this has a full body. Alcohol is high and there is a hint of sweet. Lots of fruit that confirms the nose, along with the rest
Finish: medium-long

Very interesting wine. It has a lot of fruit but it comes across as quite serious though a bit hot. Right on the darker side of fruit, right on the ripe side, not too much though. I'd give this another 3 years perhaps, and drink just a little chilled with about an hour of air

Vertical degustation of Barrua with Friends. Lineup: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015. Results: 2012 first ranked, 2010 second, 2015 third. 2011 was unfortunately corked.

2015, a very good wine by any token and also the one that all tried as first, some thought it was too young, some thought it had less french grapes in the mix (that at least on the official web site is not disclosed). The only one where I could taste myrtle. 91 pts.

2010, Superior to the 2015, more round, probably due to the age. It started showing signs of having reached its peak, still I would not hurry if I still had in store. I liked the well matured tannins. 93 pts.

2012, By far the be best of the lot. I still wonder if it was only a particularly good vintage, cellar maturation or the wine makers did put additional attention on the 10-years jubilee edition. Fruit still very crisp, soft and well ripened tannins. 94 pts.

Overall very consistent tasting profile of red fruits, liquorice, spices. Great quality. For the overall bottles that I tried, one corked is acceptable, pity I did not have a second 2011 to try in the same context.

Deep olive-purple color with bright-garnet edges. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, perhaps some baked black cherry, along with secondary leather, licorice and violet. Deep and concentrated palate, leading with very ripe blue and blackberry fruit over a secondary core of graphite, leather, allspice berry, tea and dried violet. Full-bodied and round throughout, moderate acid and full broad-grained tannins, finishing with ripe fruit and lingering spices. A little heavy and clunky to be a top showing of this wine.

Drack så inga noter - stugvin- som fått de där två-tre åren som gör så gott för enklare vin. Det har gått från precis drickbart till ett absolut bra vin!

Coravined into a small bottle and kept for 2 days.

Dark red slight purple.
Nose: the alcohol gets in the way somewhat. Once that gets out of the way, juicy red fruit with dark notes, hazelnut cedar black pepper,
Palate: full bodied, juicy, med tanin, med to long length. I would give it 89 based on this stage as it is a “sunny” type wine with decent fruit.

After 1 hour, the palate was so much more interesting, and my score of 90 is based on this moment.

Young, big wine, good nose profile. Too young for my liking at this stage, would be good to add some secondary aromas to the fruit.

Needs a super long decant to enjoy it at this stage.

8 days after I Coravined the first sample, I Coravined another large sample.
Now Showing absolutely beautifully immediately. Red and dark fruit, spice notes and super long length of chocolaty fruit. Now I can finally appreciate the critic’s notes. Score 92 based on this state.

So, don’t open now unless you are prepared to experiment to get to the ideal decant duration.

This is good but not great. Dark inky violet color. It is fruity with lots of dark plum, but also a bit edgy and square on the palate to me. A bit to much and very rustic and dry. Rather long spicy finish.

Väldigt bra balans och naturligtvis inget att spara i evigheter men det har helt säkert mått bra av några år på rygg. Jag har några enstaka flaskor kvar och jag kommer inte att skämmas för att bjuda på det till valfri rött-kött-rätt.

This is good, very good. But still short of a 90+ score for me. The alcohol is obvious in the nose, accompanied by modest red fruit. The fruit is there on tasting, but it is mainly in the back of the palate. I seem to be missing something in the front palate. This Sardinian is less rustic than expected. Everything is there, fruit, acidity, florality, a bit of sweetness, earth, evolution... The only thing that sticks out somewhat is the spicy, peppery finish. Somehow it gives a generic impression without raising eyebrows.
Do I remember correctly the 2012 was more complex, rustic, interesting?

Thick, thick liqourice. This is faboulous. Loved little brother Montessu from -15 after a year or so in the cellar but this plays in another league. Thick, fullbodied and luscious.

Edit: Sometime wine makes us overly enthusiastic. That happened here. Lowering grade to 92 from 93.

Carafe from bottle off the wine list over lunch at iO Osteria.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with wide garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dusty earth, sour red cherries, dark red plums, stony minerality. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), plush high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of soft plushdark red plums, sour red cherries, fresh leather, stony minerality, light earth, pepper spice. Blackberry and cassis and blackcurrant lead with more air. Medium+ finish.
Very good quality. Good nose and rather complex. Though it feels like is already drinking at peak. Probably not for much more further ageing.
60% Carignano, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot. Aged 15 months in 10% new French oak barrels.
Grapes from younger vineyards in Sulcis Iglesiente in Sardinia. Sort of like a second wine to the Barrua.

Still trying to figure this one out. Dark purple in the glass with dark fruit on the palate. Fairly earthy with a fairly high ABV (15%). Have wanted to try something different from Italy and this fit the bill. Need to try another bottle to have a better sense for it though.
