5/9/2024 - beegnat wrote: NRThis was great, probably drinking at peak right now. Lots of red berry/cherry fruit, some pinot funk, a little bit of mineral drive, hint of tannins. Everything is fully integrated at this point, not the most serious and drinks like a thoughtful rose, delicious and gone too quick. |

5/8/2024 - 67Riche Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis is a more feminine Gevrey, lacking much of the classic rusticity and earthiness. After 20 minutes it evolved into a beautiful, expressive wine with ample fruit and complexity. Clearly in its drinking window, with at least 15 years on the plateau. Wonderful juice, it held its own against an ‘86 Latour and ‘90 Lafite. |

5/9/2024 - biggie Likes this wine: 89 pointsA found in the cellar wine. Wine is into the neck just above the shoulder. Cork is sound with ingress about 1/2 way. Decanted off a small amount of sediment. After the double decant back into the cleaned bottle. In the glass the core is an opaque dark ruby with a bit of age showing - not brown or mahogany but muted - and it extends to a translucent ruby edge. The nose has a bit of funk and earthiness but there’s also some dark dried fruit and a bit of menthol along with a leather filled tobacco pouch and some smoke. On the palate there’s just a touch of Volatile Acidity but it’s not off-putting. The tannins are fully resolved but still there and the acidity is medium. Flavours on the palate are dried blue and black fruit, smoke, dried herbs and tobacco. The finish is long with the earthiness, dried fruit, smoke and tobacco continuing. Fully mature and probably then some but still very enjoyable considering (as I recall) 2002 being a cooler year. |

5/9/2024 - ashegedyn Likes this wine: NRSo the nose just says Macon right away. White flower, smoky minerality, On taste nice round juicy fruit - but the rub is the finish. Very tart. I think you need to get used to the tartness. nice full flavors on the palate but the back end is a little much. Not sure it is QPR at the price point - nice but not sure this is balanced enough. |

5/9/2024 - FoodAndDINK Likes this wine: 89 pointsDeep purple color, strong alcohol and tannins right off the bat. Initially decanted for half an hour, but would recommend at least an hour, as it opened up much better with a little extra air. Very pleasing bold Italian red. Maybe a bit rustic, think big bowls of meaty pasta, but good value at $15. |

5/9/2024 - MuddyBoots wrote: NRTonight this was showing very well - an initial gentle funk on hose nose but plenty of fruit behind. Quite soft on the palate - but beautiful ripe fruit. Some spice. Long, slightly peppery finish. Suggest serving a little chilled to give it a bit of freshness. Holding up well. |

5/9/2024 - ProbirR wrote: 89 pointsMedium to full body, high acidity and medium tannins. Colour is deep, dark purple with a reddish tinge. Nose is strong, dark ripe fruits - plum, blackberry, black cherry and herbaceous with a peppery note and tobacco. One can feel the oakiness in the finish which is long and well rounded. Has aged well but still needs to breathe for 20-30 mins after opening. Looking forward to my next helping !!! |

5/9/2024 - JimTaft Likes this wine: 88 pointsAfter my third or fourth bottle of this wine I'll say that each bottle lands a bit differently. I like it, like almost all Sangiovese based wines. It's a high acid wine from ripe grapes (14.5% ABV) but oddly it lacks depth and much of a "fruit" component. Overripe, perhaps, but it lacks tannins as well. Well, maybe I won't buy any more of these !! |
