4/30/2023 - Hondo701 Likes this wine: 88 pointsDecant for sediment then straight to glass. Medium tawny color with obvious bricking and a wide tan rim. Aromas of mushroom, tar, damp earth, and plum. Palate of stewed plums, damp earth, and tar with fully resolved almost non-existent tannins. A low acidity clears to a medium plum and damp earth finish. Over-the-hill but not quite dead. I was concerned with some of the latest notes, so I paired it with ricotta cavatelli with a liver, pancetta, and porcini ragu and it crushed that pairing. |

While this is certainly better than what the average wine drinker will consume in their lives, I was expecting more from an exalted bottle of 30 years. Had the familiar nebbiolo palate but subdued in a way and didn't finish with much intensity or panache. While I will gladly have this any night of the week, it was not the special occasion I had anticipated. Lower my expectations next time? Perhaps. |

Very much a well-aged example of Barbaresco that mostly showcases the secondary elements of minerals, dried herbs, mushrooms, tar, decaying leaves, and camphor. There is some dark fruit but it is largely obscured by the above. This is still holding and has its charms, especially with a mushroom risotto, but this really ought to have been drunk up during the Obama years. Still holding some that I will need to get to soon. |

4/7/2023 - yossarian.livez wrote: 89 pointsOn the pop, liquored cherries, nubuck leather, iron. With time the cherry lingers less and then more leather and underbrush notes. Nice, polished, totally resolved as far as tannin. Moderate length and finish. Still a bit of sweetness, oddly reminiscent of Swedish fish, on the finish makes this one still quite nice even if it’s a touch past prime. Drink em if you got em |

12/16/2022 - Michael Hung wrote: 88 pointsSoy sauce, truffle and dirt, prune on the nose. Almost entirely tertiary, only fruit was a touch of dried sour prune and dried figs. Quite a dry finish, very savory flavors. Would pair better with food, specifically something that would work well with earthy flavors. Not the easiest wine to drink by itself. Nonetheless, a very interesting tertiary dominant wine. Definitely over the hill and should be drunk soon. 88 |

Nuanced nose, layered flavors, one of the best of it's type that i've experienced. Still some legs left, resolved tanins, little sediment. Wish I had more. Ready to drink now but I don't think a few more years in the cellar would be a detriment. It should see age 30 if properly stored. |

4/7/2021 - Rick 4 Wine Likes this wine: 92 pointsDrinking beautifully here! We paired with a Tuscan sausage, garlic and grape dish that was just sublime as the acidity cut through the butter and the aged fruit complemented perfectly the bright red grapes and fennel sausage. I disagree with the CT pundits who said this wine was past date in 2017. this is drinking well here and still has fruit and some tannic structure, though fading the wine is still balanced. |

3/18/2021 - Vinophiliac559 wrote: 92 pointsPnp, cork in amazing shape, nose is dried rose petal, dried fall leaves, a dusty pepper note, rustic, pure tertiary delight. Palate matches with the addition of tart black cherry, plum, bracing acidity, and fairly firm tannin for a 20+ yr old wine. Definitely a food wine, paired with red sauce pasta and grilled brussel sprouts, likely will not improve but will hold where it is for a while. A slight edge on the standard barbaresco bottling from same producer/vintage. 91-92 |
