Maroon color showing some bricking. Nose and palate are completely secondary in nature. Very earthen, mushroom, stewed fruits, touches of Brett. Flat on the body. Past its prime window. Drink up

Beautiful nose with top aromas of white flowers and a deep core of cherry cola and poppyseed. Light in weight but still maintaining a stern tannic structure. Racy acidity accents cherry fruit and rosewater. Drink now.

Decant for sediment then straight to glass. Medium tawny color with obvious bricking and a wide tan rim. Aromas of mushroom, tar, damp earth, and plum. Palate of stewed plums, damp earth, and tar with fully resolved almost non-existent tannins. A low acidity clears to a medium plum and damp earth finish. Over-the-hill but not quite dead. I was concerned with some of the latest notes, so I paired it with ricotta cavatelli with a liver, pancetta, and porcini ragu and it crushed that pairing.

I have had a couple of these now. While this is certainly better than what the average wine drinker will consume in their lives, I was expecting more from an exalted bottle of 30 years. Had the familiar nebbiolo palate but subdued in a way and didn't finish with much intensity or panache. While I will gladly have this any night of the week, it was not the special occasion I had anticipated. Lower my expectations next time? Perhaps.

Having donated one of these in 2016, and somehow lost one in 2018 (but did I drink it?), this is my first bottle of this that I can recall. Very much a well-aged example of Barbaresco that mostly showcases the secondary elements of minerals, dried herbs, mushrooms, tar, decaying leaves, and camphor. There is some dark fruit but it is largely obscured by the above. This is still holding and has its charms, especially with a mushroom risotto, but this really ought to have been drunk up during the Obama years. Still holding some that I will need to get to soon.

On the pop, liquored cherries, nubuck leather, iron. With time the cherry lingers less and then more leather and underbrush notes. Nice, polished, totally resolved as far as tannin. Moderate length and finish. Still a bit of sweetness, oddly reminiscent of Swedish fish, on the finish makes this one still quite nice even if it’s a touch past prime. Drink em if you got em

Soy sauce, truffle and dirt, prune on the nose. Almost entirely tertiary, only fruit was a touch of dried sour prune and dried figs. Quite a dry finish, very savory flavors. Would pair better with food, specifically something that would work well with earthy flavors. Not the easiest wine to drink by itself. Nonetheless, a very interesting tertiary dominant wine. Definitely over the hill and should be drunk soon. 88

Bad bottle. Skunk juice. What a shame, as I purchased based on the effusive garagiste write-up. Damp cellar, mushrooms, wet cardboard.

Fully mature barbaresco with fruit all but muted. This was a garagiste find which did its job on thanksgiving. Nice tertiary notes, sour cherries and blood orange. Not overly complex

Nose retains a little dried fruit and roses, but is well developed with notes of tobacco, cooked meat, and leather.

A nicely structured Barbaresco but it seems to have outlived its fruit. It's not without pleasure. It manages to be impressive despite its lacki of charm.

Enjoyed with Garlic pasta and grilled Chicken at Pizza Bela, Old Town, San Diego. Perfect cork, no ullage. Nuanced nose, layered flavors, one of the best of it's type that i've experienced. Still some legs left, resolved tanins, little sediment. Wish I had more. Ready to drink now but I don't think a few more years in the cellar would be a detriment. It should see age 30 if properly stored.

Ex Magnum

hint of roasted orange. Tight and rough upon opening with golden raspberry wild cherry and orange peel flavors lean taut acid driven with a hint of fresh mushroom and old wood on the finish. Tannins are almost chewy. Structurally very youthful with flavors that reflect a wine on its plateau. Should be fine with 8 hours of air. Packed with tart sour cherry fruit. Tannin meld well lending this a smooth if not silky mouthfeel. Nose gains tar while some chalk shows up on the palate. It’s a lovely wine not great but complete and firmly in early maturity with some iron mushroom soup the palate and leather accents through the subtle yet long finish.

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet to almost purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of wet stones, white pepper and black berries. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and dried plums. Medium to tart acidity, firm tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Drinking beautifully here! We paired with a Tuscan sausage, garlic and grape dish that was just sublime as the acidity cut through the butter and the aged fruit complemented perfectly the bright red grapes and fennel sausage. I disagree with the CT pundits who said this wine was past date in 2017. this is drinking well here and still has fruit and some tannic structure, though fading the wine is still balanced.

Pnp, cork in amazing shape, nose is dried rose petal, dried fall leaves, a dusty pepper note, rustic, pure tertiary delight. Palate matches with the addition of tart black cherry, plum, bracing acidity, and fairly firm tannin for a 20+ yr old wine. Definitely a food wine, paired with red sauce pasta and grilled brussel sprouts, likely will not improve but will hold where it is for a while. A slight edge on the standard barbaresco bottling from same producer/vintage. 91-92
