Sweet an pleasing, yet with just a lack of depth to put it over 90. Delicious pineapple, quince and peach / apricot aromas and flavors. Very nice.

Unbelievable QPR. At age 6, this was still chock full of ripe cherry flavors with just the slightest hint of tomato leaf, which added to the wine, not detracted. Slightly grainy mouthfeel, but just so easy to enjoy.

This was a very nice wine. Showed a less-ripe side of Viognier. Melon, underripe peach, tangerine notes all with a nice minerality. Really good wine, and good with food.

2007 Melville Pinot Noir Carrie's

Really singing at 8 years old. The nose, while full of fruit, started off a bit hot. At 14.7%, not terribly surprising. However, it and the palate (which also showed a little heat) integrated a bit more. The beautiful strawberry, honeydew and rhubarb pie flavors melded well. There was even possibly a slight, very pleasant cucumber note in there. Overall, a rich and satisfying Pinot Noir, if not a bit ripe. Drink over the next 5 years.

About what I'd expect from declassified Grenache. Straight-forward and simple, but with nice fruit. Some cheaper Grenache are too funky and bretty, but this was well-made. I just lacks depth and nuance, but I'm not totally devastated at this price. Better with food.

I like this much better than the 2013, which was too austere and lacked fruit. Pours a slightly orange pink. Great underlying stoniness to the bright red fruits. Don't serve too cold. A rose at this price point better darn well deliver, and this did.

This was a very easy-to-drink, tasty sparkler. Slightly musty aromas with good bready lemon pith and mineral notes on the palate. Juicy and well-rounded.

This was quite nice. It put on weight as it sat in the glass, so I'd recommend a 1-2 hour decant. Some domestic Rhone style blends come across as too simple and frankly fruity to me, but this was quite nice with layers of raspberry, earth, spice and red currant. Nice, long finish and pleasant acidity.

2012 French Creek Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Block 10

I bought this on a whim from Impulse Wine. Yashar stated in his email that, "....I can easily put it among the top Cabs I’ve had in recent memory, in fact I think it’s the best Cabernet I’ve had in the last twelve months." Heck, for $28.99, I thought it was a low-risk buy for 2. This was my first. I'll agree that it's good but, to me, that's all it is. It's a very easy-drinking wine with very little tannin, and almost tastes advanced-in-age for a 2012. This won't age. Meaty notes on the nose along with juicy black currant and cherry fruit. Decent finish. I guess I like a little more structure. Re-reading the email, I can see that Trey Busch was the winemaker, and I can definitely see his style in the wine. If you like SoH wines, you'll probably like this. I, for one, won't re-buy. Drink up.

This is really great wine. Such a nice balance of fruit, texture, acidity...I love how more great Rhone-inspired blends are hitting the market. This is a good one.

This wine was too young. Granted, it started to open some after about 2 hours, but I'm holding off for a year on my others. The goods are there, though. Very primary fruit that doesn't yet expand on the palate. Boysenberry, orange pith, a little rhubarb. A well-balanced wine that just needs to relax a bit.

Normally not a huge fan, this was my favorite SoH wine to date. Beautiful nose and well-balanced black fruit on a sturdy frame. Didn't feel like a 2010 to me, showed more like a slightly warmer year. Very nice.

Still somewhat tannic and could (I hope) benefit from a little more age. I think it'll take on depth and complexity, which is what it lacked on this showing. Nice, typical Syrah flavors, but mostly fruit and tannin, not much meat / earth / funk. Hold.

2009 Guardian Cellars Chalk Line

Columbia Valley Red Blend more

Not decanted. Straight-forward aromas of plum, a little cocoa, tobacco. On the palate, this was a nice mix of red and black fruits, with a surprising meaty, soy-like note coming through. I was surprised at how pronounced the Syrah (22% of the blend) notes were. I think this might be my bias against blending Bordeaux varieties and Rhone varieties in the same wine. Seemed like a basic, albeit well-made, table wine. Drink up.

This is utterly delicious Pinot Noir. On the nose and palate, there were notes of spiced plum cake, black cherry, clove and a lovely mineral note that lingers, all wrapped in a very juicy delivery. Not even a hint of its 14.8% showed through. Just a fun drink and ready to go.

This was a reminder of how fun it can be to enjoy well-made Napa Cabernet. Rich aromas and flavors of blackberry jam, currant and charcoal were supremely enjoyable. It's all about fruit, and the alcohol does peek through on the nose some of the time. However, it's well-structured and the tannins and ample fruit could still use a year or three to soften just a bit more.

Very nice Rose. Very light pink. Just impressions at this point, but I loved the balance of fruit, acidity and palate weight. This didn't taste like slightly tainted water like some roses. However, not sweet or overly-fruited either. A great wine at a very good price. Not surprised considering it's Seven Hills.

Decanted for three hours which, as it turns out, was too long. The first glasses were the best. Initially, great aromatics with violets, blackberry, and licorice. The palate is drying a bit and the blackberry, mint, and cherry notes are thinning out some. Drink up over the next year.

Patience was rewarded here. A very exciting wine. Decanted for an hour before drinking. Somewhat subdued aromas of red fruit. On the palate, however, deep flavors enveloped the palate including boysenberry, cranberry jam, orange peel and clove. Long finish. The brightness and freshness of the wine were perhaps the most impressive part, and it showed very, very well with food. Can go for quite a while yet (5-7 years) before any decline I think.

2/20/2015 - BRR Likes this wine: 93 points

First glass not decanted. Perfect cork. Slightly shy aromas of plum, cedar, charcoal and black cherry. On the palate, the tannins are fully integrated and waves of tobacco-accented cherry and red licorice fill the mouth. With air, the tannins showed up a bit, but not obtrusively so. This a stately WA red and shows the pedigree of the vintage, the fruit and the winemaker. Will hold for up to 5 more years before a (slow) decline.

The nose on this was initially great - dark fruit, nice vibrancy. But, on the palate, the fruit fell short. It was better with the steak we had, but the glass after dinner was far more thin and drying out. Good, not great, with food, not recommended alone.

Like many others, this is a very nice atypical Zin from CA in that it's not about ripe fruit or heavy-handedness. It's fresh, lightly acidic, but still with great varietal character: licorice, blackberry, pepper. Would be an excellent grilled burger wine.

Drinking well right now. Didn't budge by day 2 either. On the palate, notes of dark plum, black raspberry, bramble, light pepper and a subtle earthiness below it all. Drink now, or hold 1-2 more years.

This was a great showing. Young and vibrant still, showing impressive depth. Lemon zest, hazelnut, some flintiness, all come together and are lifted by great acidity. This showed a very nice balance of oak influence and natural Chardonnay typicity. Really great wine.

Not small on flavor, that's for sure. My first Kistler. Nothing too spectacular on the nose, but full of lemon curd, toast and stone fruit. Good enough acidity but, frankly, a little monolithic at this point. I'll wait a bit on my next bottle.
