From a magnum that had been perfectly stored. Wow, what a treat! Slight bricking in the color. Tons of fruit still present and fully integrated. I wish they still made wine like this is California. Awesome bottle.

Nice peppery elements. Good weight with some meatiness to it that frames the fruit nicely.

I had been told that I wouldn't like Saxum wines because they were not my style. Too big, etc. With this wine, my first from Saxum, I was quite surprised that despite it being 15.6% abv, it was extremely well balanced and quite tasty. Really nice big cherry fruit flavors on the palate but no noticeable heat on the finish from the alcohol. Is this is part due to it being 9+ years old? Great wine.

Always enjoy the Botella bottling. Young but fresh and drinkable. Soft mouthfeel with good fruit. Medium bodied. I wish they produced more of this one.

Really great CCR. Dark fruit, spice, toasted oak all rolled up in a nice little package. In a great spot to enjoy now but should also age gracefully for the next several years.

Pretty good. "New Worldly". Merlot perhaps dominates at this point. Good value @ $25.

A little too heavy on the sulphur/flintiness on the nose but that does blow off in the decanter after some time. Underneath, everything is pretty nicely put together. Another CT note says 'quality under a crap blanket'. I don't know if I'd use those words, but I certainly don't care for the blanket (aka nose) that's hiding the tasty wine underneath it.

Nice earthy nose with floral elements. Still pretty lively with the acidity. Pretty well integrated and enjoyable. Almost easy to mistake for a similarly aged Bordeaux. Quite enjoyable.

A nice, well rounded, wine but certainly needs some time in the bottle to come together or an extended decant just to settle those tannins down a bit. Let rest for 3-5 years for now.

Definite WOW wine. So elegant and balanced with pure red berry flavors and just a touch of a mocha note. On the palate this is an expression of pure velvet. So smooth. 13.3% abv is a welcome change from the usual Napa monsters. One of the best wines I've had this year.

Wow. Big wine. Not quite what I was expecting after tasting through a couple of nice Northern Rhones. While still tasty, this was just too big for me tonight. I would never guess a wine like this to be CdP. Just too jammy and dense. I can see how people would give it a big score because if this is your style, then it's right up your alley.

When I first read the previous CT tasting note that gave this wine 95 points, I thought "really??". Then I opened a bottle last night. Wow. This is fantastic right out of the bottle. Absolutely gorgeous texture with just the right amount of weight and balance. Opulent fruit without going over the top. Reminds me of some very high end Burgundy with a new world twist. Fantastic wine!
