Deep gold color in the glass.
Robust nose of tropical fruit with lots of toasted oak. Nutty with lightly burnt caramel notes as well.
Rich and well balanced on the palate with apple, dark honey, dark molasses. Beautiful effort.
Surprised there are not Stephen Test wines in Cellar Tracker until now.
For about 35 bucks this is a fantastic deal that screams quality California Chardonnay. Lots of oak though.

Robust aromas of leather saddle and barnyard. Hay and dirt. Tons of dustyness in the profile.
Dark dark berries. Blackberries, dark cherries, leather and tons of dirt and cigar box.
Beautiful aromas and awesome palate. Spectacular length giving way to a structured and quite tannic finish.
Lovely. Masculine. Give it five more years.

Beautiful finish. Well balanced with moderate high alcohol, acidity and tannins. Beautiful integration of the elements.
Lovely charcoal aromas and flavors on the back palate.
This is a solid effort. Can't wait to try the Estate.

With Annie and Brad over Monday Night Football and the Bulls game.
Bright basic light Sauvignon Blanc. Not a whole lot on the nose. Some lime, green apple and lemon grass.
Shorter finish. Kind of blah. Not the kind of acidity I like to see in a Marlborough SB.

1999 Mitchelton Shiraz Print

Lovely, though the fruit has somewhat been muted over the past year or so in the bottle.
Deep dark rich velvety fruit. Blackberries, plums. Dried dark fruit.
Lovely black pepper spice with some smokey characteristics.
Huge nose, but the palate doesn't quite hold up. Falls a little short on the finish.
Very solid effort. Lost some points since the last tasting because the fruit is on its way out. LAME. Better drink that last bottle soon.

Nothing too special. Some nice spicy berries with soft white pepper aromas.
The finish is simple but very approachable to just about anyone.
A solid Santa Barbara Syrah that isn't enough to get me excited but will be enjoyed by most novice drinkers.

Lots of dark fruit. The wine has definitely undergone some minor aging.
The fruit is a little muted with the wine showing some interesting Old World characteristics.
Dark fruit, gravel and some nice darker licorice aromas and flavors on the palate.
Not bad, but this was probably a bit past its prime. Still enjoyed by most.

Enjoyed with Johnny at The Chicago Firehouse (with J. Rochioli Chardonnay 2004).
Accompanied prime New York strip and bacon mashed potatoes very well.
Dark opaque/black color at the core.
Beautiful class California Cabernet aromas. Dark blackberries and sour cherries.
Leather, tobacco and robust cigar box notes accompanied with balanced vanilla and nice oak on the back end.
The palate is deep and rich. Dark cherries, blackberries and mocha flavors are prevalent.
The finish is well balanced showing awesomely integrated tannins with stunning length for an "off vintage."
Overall, Switchback Ridge continues to impress time after time.

Enjoyed with escargots and a fresh Caesar salad with anchovies.
Beautiful golden color in the glass.
Vibrant nose of golden apples, roasted almonds and hazelnut.
Lush and creamy even on the nose. Vanilla and light honey aromas too.
The palate is complex and shows some excellent length and structure.
A few years in the bottle have helped the rich vanilla, honey and tropical notes to come out.
Excellent effort by J. Rochioli -- producing truly age worthy Chardonnay year after year.

Fantastic. Gamey black stone fruit, with nice minerals. So much meaty funk. Such an awesome nose to experience -- especially for the value.

Tied for third best wine of the day. (2003 Kistler Vine Hill Chardonnay, Domain Alfred Chamisal Vineyard Syrah)
Inky purple color. Darker and more extracted than many of the others. Crayon and leather with tons of dark purple fruit.
Blueberries, blackberries. Purple flowers and tar. So powerful on the palate.
I really loved this wine. This is a powerhouse of a California Cab -- and in an off vintage.
But above all else, the wine remains in perfect balance. Awesome lengthly tannins with focused acidity which lead to a 45 second finish.

Maybe a little bit past its prime, it's still awesome juice.
Light dried fruit that's absolutely gorgeous and structured.
Turned off a bit by an overly sweet molasses sensation on the palate.
Long mouth filling and elegant finish. Beautiful acidity and really soft tannins.
