Ok, fellow CellarTrackers! For those of you that still have these in your cellars (Qty. 43 a current count, which may be old data), I'll have to say it's still drinkable (though way past it's prime, which was quite modest based on previous reviews).

Brought this bottle over from my Dad's house (who's moved primarily to beer - don't ask me why he abandoned wine), and my wife just asked me to open it up so she could use it on a beef-based stir-fry. I took a sip after opening and it quite surprised me. Many prior commented on it dryness, and it still remains here in spades. Unfortunately, there's not much more complexity beyond that: any tannins are long integrated - but it remains a smooth and pleasant drink.

So if you still have it in your cellars, drink it soon, but don't dispose of it (alternatively, you can send it my way, LOL)!

Stellar. If I can sum it up, classic and extremely well balanced. The structure is impeccably refined, a tower of numerous dark fruit enveloped in floral and herbaceous notes. The sniff of acidity is perfect, and CARRIES thru the entire nose to swallow journey. Tannins are still prominent, but softened with maturity. Even the color shows the strength of this wine with just a touch of tawniness on the edges - wife called it the touch of wrinkles on a phenomenally distinguished face. Since we were enjoying this for so long, caught a whiff of charry leaves, sandlewood, and very faint citrus.

This bottle is testament to keeping a cellar and filling it with wines from the old world. I just bought another.

Spectacular. Fairy tale land - chocolate sprinkled on forest floor, with dark berries poking up from underneath. Mahogany, almost hints of sandalwood. Despite its age, it still has a youth-like structure with present, though rounded tannins and a wonderful acidity that encourages you to play with it in your mouth. Finish is perfect for a 20+ year old wine. If you purchased this shortly after release, it's a perfect testament to the effort of aging a fine wine.

Opaque, dark ruby red. Boysenberries, blueberry strong on the nose. Closer whiff brings hints of vanilla and marshmallow. Clean like a window. Nice mouthfeel, weighty without being heavy. Finish comes on early in a pleasant way - a bit lingering in the aftertaste (more than I'd like, but I'm probably being way to picky). Very enjoyable!

Second tasting and just as good as the first. Very rounded due to it's age, so smooth as chocolate and raisins going down.

If you've got a lot of these in your cellar, enjoy them soon! They appear to be drinking well, and may evolve a year or two down the road, but they're definitely past their apex.

Bought a few bottles after tasting this at the winery. Ageing well.
Dark red, barely tawny. Grapes and prune on the nose; deeper whiff pulls out some forest floor - smells like a cellar, LOL. Loads of chocolate and brown sugar, with an almost "gritty" mouthfeel.

Acids still there, but you can tell a lot of the welcome unruliness normally tasted in young wines has been smoothed out with time in the cellar in this one. Finish is very good. A little heavier than I expected after nosing in, but a nicely satisfying sip.

The winery mentioned I shouldn't go more than a couple of years from now to finish up the bottles I bought - but I believe that won't be a problem *smile*.

[PNP] DARK CHERRIES - you get that whiff in your face by just pouring the first glass to appreciate the color. That first surprise masked the second which I should have seen first: auburn. Dark red/brown, cloyingly cloudy in appearance. Forest floor, chocolate, and taffy (?!) on the nose. A bit light on the tongue, but nice acid that carries through the swirl in the mouth. A bit too much water toward the end, but the finish doesn't disappoint. Nice bottle! Glad I saved it up (gift), but sad I didn't stock up more.

Couldn't wait to open my second bottle. Absolutely recalled the fruit forward, berry-laden nose. Along with the pepper and very faint spice, I can also get a whiff of light chocolate and tobacco. Perhaps it was my honeymoon on the first bottle - the finish isn't as awe-inspiring as my first tasting note might lead you to believe, but enjoyable, nevertheless. This may be this wonderful wine paling in comparison to a couple of very nice bottles I had recently, but at this price - there really should be no complaining. I'll be ordering a couple more bottles to fill in the empty spots these last two bottles left behind.

This was a nice surprise. Purchased for several dollars off on the clearance rack of the local grocer. Along with the fruit in the previous noted review, there's some chocolate ganache on the nose. Surprising structured for the price. NOT as thin as I was expecting; in fact - had a nice, full mouthfeel with some hefty acid for a lingering finish. Great wine for the price. Need to find more!

Was expecting more (QPR); perhaps on the leg down from its prime. Big, heavy, forest floor on the nose. Caught a whiff of the dark chocolate, black licorice, and plum from previous reviews. Faint hint of smoky sandlewood (surprise here). Agree with previous reviews - thin, thin, thin - but just barely enough meat to swish around which saves it a bit. The finish, though, is quite nice - acidity and astringency complement each other well. Unsure it's worth the current market price - have tasted better wines for less the price.

Berries, berries, berries!!! Intense, in your nose fruit with hints of pepper, nutmeg, and faint cinnamon. Acidity is a bit forward, but balances out nicely after a swirl in the mouth. Unexpectedly complex for the price! If I had to criticize, it's a teeny bit thin in feel. Finish is wonderful.

Just wow. First whiff draws you in with a deep fruit structure that exudes Old World winemaking at its finest; laced with enough freshness to zap you back to reality. Rich, lavish nose with chocolate, tobacco, and a hint of citrus that's quickly complemented by rich acidity when it first hits your tongue. Finish? This is a wine that STARTS its finish right when you sip, dances the flavors in your mouth, and transports it down the wine pipe only to linger a bit in your nose. Amazing.

Wow. Second bottle after the one I opened on the 4th of July and didn't have time to really "geek out". Phenomenal nose - bold, sweet ripe cherries and currants. Acid is perfect - constant throughout the sip, helping gather the entire taste up through the nose. Finish is lingering. Great wine to drink now.

Drank at a friends' home for July 4th, so not too much time to really sit down and study - busy enjoying the festivities. Fruit forward and meaty. Lots of berry/cherry. Nice tannic structure, with the alcohol and overall astringency holding it all together. Extremely enjoyable; looking forward the the second bottle - but hopefully with some low key time to really appreciate it.

Forest floor and moss underpins a nose of slightly overripe fruit. At first approach, seems unremarkable - too much fruit. Digging deeper, you get a hint of citrus and vanilla. What throws me off is the way it "floats" over your tongue when you sip. A weak body, and not too much tannin to hold it up. The flavor is there, which punctuates the thought started by the nose. However, the finish builds up toward the end, but only to end prematurely. This was a very good drink when I purchased at a tasting bistro, and what I'm drinking now is not what I remember. Perhaps it settles out somewhat (maybe too much) in the cellar.

Very close to an expectedly wide peak. Fruit forward nose, blackberry and (yes - I smell the whiff of it too!) leather, with earthy undertones really providing a great foundation to carry the flavors past your tongue. The structure has coalesced nicely, so I'm unsure how much better it well get; but if it's in-line to this Chateau's offerings - I will save the last bottle for another several years. It's drinking very nicely now, and will do so for many more years to come. Finish is sharp and tight. Paired with a Christmas Eve feast of beef roast and (gasp!) deep-fried turkey (no, I didn't burn the backyard down!).

Pinots are typically my third/fourth go-to red (after Bordeaux and Cali Cabs), but this offering from Mooney is a very nice surprise.

Black currant, chocolate, and citrus on the nose - elegantly layered and balanced. Wonderful when it hits the tongue, blackberries and currants - mouthfeel meaty, some inky consistency - the finish is outstanding. Lingering - only complaint is if it could linger more in the mouth.

Very clear uniform red color, opening up with forest floor, earthy notes, and leather encompassing a core of deep rich mature fruit. Surprisingly good. Hits my palate as a mature Chianti, so I'm not sure how many more years it's got. Paired with (of course) tomato basil pasta - wonderful!

3/17/2020 - optioninvestor Likes this wine: 88 points

Upon opening, same hint of mold atop the cork under the foil; exactly as I remember the first of my two bottles.

First nose in - you're met with a vast, yawning, almost overwhelming assault of fruit: boysenberries and raisins, amongst many others. Has almost a bordeaux-like whiff, but like my first bottle several months ago - it's a pleasant, but one-sided wine. Lacks structure and complexity - but I'm being picky. Pepper and earth are still there, moderate mouthfeel, and the finish is short.

Nice wine - past its peak IMO, but in a very nice spot. Probably has a few more years before it falls off the cliff in age. For the price bought - a wonderful ride to allow it to mature over the years.

Very good Laetitia, proof of their merit making Pinots on the upper scale of their offerings. Strawberry jam (maybe a tad bit much) and licorice on the nose - but very inviting and pleasant. Mild chocolate that burst into pepper once it hits the tongue. Great mouthfeel; beefy for a Pinot with a finish that lingers after the swallow. Very nice.

Fruit forward, which somewhat masks the very good structure underneath. A touch of earth and vanilla, with a hint of licorice on the nose. Great mouthfeel, with a finish that is seductive and absolutely enjoyable. Its tannic structure isn't as well formed as others that will age for a decade, so I'm not sure if this has got the stamina to go that long, but agree it's got some legs. Wonderful effort - I'm gonna stock up a bit more on this bottle of wine!

The wine looks ruby colored with almost no clinging to the glass. Zero sediment. Blackberry, orange, pineapple, and oak on the nose. Nice, grainy mouthfeel with a touch of oiliness. Pleasant, but finishes a tad short (you want more). Very nicely made Pinot. May have a few years to settle in your cellar, but not much more. Drinkable now.

Deep purple red color, which just clung to the sides of the glass like an incessant child. Blackberry/currants which just wallowed in a sea of chocolate and earth. Wonderfully mature, rounded tannins - forced you to sip, and savor - wondering what else was in store. Finish a bit tapered off quicker than I'd like, but elegant. Can't wait for the next bottle!
