Delicious and rich with banana and citrus, and a lovely but subtle nose of citrus and honey. I first tasted this at Abe Schoener's house on the delta, and immediately bought some. Yumm!

Super-sweeet, almost grape juice. The consensus was that this needed more cellar time.

Rich and unctuous, a lovely white that is more interesting than most, except perhaps the wonderful offerings from Scholium.

"Aromatics of white blossoms, elderflower, guava and yeast, backed by chalky flint-like notes with a little brininess reminiscent of the sea. Palate of tangerine rind, lemon, green apple and kiwi flavors anchored by a minerality. Tarty and racy, my personal favorite with raw oysters." — Winemaker Nick Stez

2000 Château Margaux

Red Bordeaux Blend more

I was excited to see that a friend was opening a bottle of the 2000 Margaux at a recent tasting, but a little concerned that the bottle was painfully young. I mean, seriously. This is a 2000 Margaux, which both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker have given scores of 100.

I was right to be concerned. Even with an hour's decanting and a LOT of swirling, the wine remained tight, showing only a glimpse of its potential. Don't get me wrong... it was a lovely wine once it opened up after 15 minutes of swirling. A classic bordeaux, rich with loam, manure, and dark dried fruit. But the lingering finish wasn't really there, and the tannins hadn't matured and softened. I'll look forward to trying this wine again in 10-15 years, when I expect it will have gotten a lot more interesting.

Weird, this bottle was tasty when we first opened it, but then quickly deteriorated to what one of my co-workers described as 'samoan armpit.' I've never before seen a wine open up in a negative way.
