2/19/2024 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 89 pointsBig, but structured and fresh. Theres noticable oak here, but IMO it kind of works as a package. Impressive, really, at the price point. Kudos. PS, just looked at the label and it printing 14,5. |

5/19/2022 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 93 points6 years since I tried the last one of these. It is finally ready to go. Drank a restaurant with half an hour of slow-o. Rich and leathery, with tobacco and some star anise. Surprisingly however plenty of primary fruit still left. I never thought I'd see it evolve to this. I presumed The fruit would go before the harder edges. Couldn't be more happy. Drink up. |

1/21/2018 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: NRGreat wine for sure, but I didn't let it open up enough. Bottle was empty just as it was really picking up steam. I would recommend a 45-minute decant. |

1/1/2018 - Bob Sacamano Does not like this wine: 88 pointsA let down. Herby, stony, earthy nose is OK with some spice and warmth. Palate, though, falls flat. It lacks fruit and finishes short. A snoozer of a CdP. |

11/25/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 92 pointsSmooth, silky and elegant, but with some decent depth of fruit and fresh acidity still present. Some Bordeaux funk one the nose that blows off eventually. In a perfect place. |

11/8/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 94 pointsStrong fill, and cork came out in one piece. Brief decant. Ruby with moderate amount of bricking. Gorgeous, purfumed Bordeaux nose: pine, menthol, potpourri, lead pencil, cedar, and some brie rind funk. Just an outstanding nose. Plenty of life left on the palate, but definitely on the backside of peak. Soft tannin and fading supple strawberry and raspberry fruit. Still a good kick of acidity. A beautiful example of aged Bdx. 93-94pts |

2014 Château de BraudeHaut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/27/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 89 pointsPretty much right off the WTSO truck. Nice more traditionally styled claret; comes in at 13%. Shimmering ruby color with medium body. Bright, savory, earthy redcurrant and cool-toned red fruits with a good amount of acidity. Hint of tannin present but unobtrusive. Seems like a lot of 2014s are like this: packed with early drinking energy and tension. Simple, no doubt, but great in the daily drinker category. 89-90. |

2014 Les Tourelles de LonguevillePauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
7/19/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 91 pointsObviously young. Needs time or 1+ hours of air, but quite nice. Opaque matte ruby color. Lots of oak on the nose; perfumes the air with sweet vanilla. Hot-feeling and disjointed at first, with air it evolves earthy and savory redcurrant and raspberry notes. Silky, light, and effortless on the palate. Not a lot of complexity, but feels like high quality fruit underneath. Would consider re-buying at the $33 Costco charged. |

6/17/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 93 pointsThought it might have been flawed from the sewer-gas smell as it decanted, but alas all was well. Turns out this was just greenness. Nose of charred and stewed green pepper, cumin, smoke and damp earth. On the palate, brilliant concentrated black and red wild berries. Harmonious concentration and acidity. Dense and extracted, but not overdone and certainly not overripe. Would like to try this bottling in a good vintage. |

6/23/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 91 pointsDense opaque purple maroon color. Stuffed with big cool-toned savory red fruits. Some perceptible skin tannin along with balanced acidity lends nice structure. Deceptively elegant in spite of elevated alcohol and extract. Will continue to improve and integrate with cellaring and be superb after 2020. |

6/13/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 89 pointsMedium bodied and with a wonderful core of just-ripe red and blue fruit. Look out though, decidedly old world in character. Noticable wood tannin and some leanness and angularity on the finish. Needs years in the cellar to reach potential. Much better on day two. |

5/12/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 92 pointsHad at restaurant in St. Emilion. Bought a case when I returned to the US. Honey driven nose and attack. Minerality on the mid and the finish. As good as I remember it and unspeakable QPR for all estate grown fruit at under $13 shipped. |

5/12/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 92 pointsMy notes echo PETERNELSON to a large degree. Very complex, Atlantic influenced boquet. Lot of savory character to the palate. Still a bit of fruit, grip and acidity left, but for the most part very mellow and calm. Fair amount of bricking. I would drink these now or in the next year or two. |

4/22/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 92 pointsSaturated dark ruby color. Forward, potent wild berry melange. Youthful hard edges softened quickly with time in the decanter. Very pure and focused on the attack, but feels floaty and elegant on mid through finish. Definitely not overextracted. Fair QPR in the mid $30s. |

2013 Château du RetoutHaut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/2/2017 - Bob Sacamano wrote: 88 pointsMedium body. Some classic Bordeaux funk, pickled peppers and rhubarb on the nose, subtle hints of oak (coconut). Crisp entry leads to strawberry, cranberry, oaky spice, and some licorice on the palate. Silky mid with a kick of gritty sweet red fruits. Tart acidity and lenghty finish with just a hint of grip. Lean and mean at 12,5. Very impressed for $20 in a weak vintage. More interesting in 2+ years when it sheds oak, but better with food in any case. |

2012 Château Latour-MartillacPessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/2/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 93 pointsA taste from Coravin turned into half a bottle. Shows a lot of youth, but approachable. Incredible weight and stuffed with ripe black and red fruits, but also brimming with Pessac terrior: anise, hot rocks, woodsy spice. Silky and juicy through the mid, finishes long and bright with punchy, licorice spice and some grip. Evokes a high end California Zin in some ways. Not a big gap between this and Pape Clement IMO, it's that good. Give it 1-2 years to settle down a bit though. |

3/31/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis is coming together nicely if you give it a bit of air. I'm a fan. Light on it's feet, bright, cool, tangy red fruits and savory red currant. The wife liked it, so there's definitely enough fruit to keep you interested. I've seen "strict" used as an adjective and I think it applies here. Honest and old school at 13,5. In my estimation will continue to improve for 3 or so more years. |

3/17/2017 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 89 pointsMinerality abounds with this one. Faint red fruits and river rocks on the nose. Rich and full fruit palate. Dusty dried cherry and cranberry. Some woody spice and minerality, maybe some iodine. A bit of heat on the finish. Great stuff and nice QPR, but a touch rustic. |
