Concentrated and dense. Still need some time to release the fruit from the tannin wrapping and hit the sweet spot. Give it 2-3 more years of aging and it is going to be amazing wine.

13.8% ABV. Dark ruby colour. Black currant, cherry, bitter chocolate, light leather, light tobacco, spices, a hint of mint, and balsamic notes, with good acidity, chocolaty tannin, and very good length of the lightly cocoa-bitter finish. Medium- to full-bodied, smoothly textured, and incredibly balanced. The wine kept developing as time passed and started to show best after three hours of aeration. The balance really stood out. A great Cabernet that drinks well. Still, you can get an equally satisfying experience with a good Pauillac at half the price.

Decanted for 2 hours. Fourth of six purchased on release. Lovely, deep nose of lemons and gunflint. Ripe palate, orchard fruit and spice with a medium weight texture and a long juicy finish. This is great, it could benefit from more complexity on the palate but for $38 on release I can’t expect much more.

Full of tension: dark fruits with some light berries at the end of the palate; pushing the edges of fullness but pulling itself back in; some velvet from the tannin but some dryness, too. Seems early to make a call about this wine, but it is very good.

Light red in color & shimmering in the light. Beautiful bright red raspberry on the nose, well balanced and super bright, with just a touch of ripeness and a bit weighty on the backend. Very good, and easy to drink without food.

Dark garnet. High toned cherry profile with some sandalwood spice. This was my last bottle of these and I was surprised to find it still had a fine tannic line 18 years post vintage. Body was a bit under what I would like. Balanced and medium length.

Decent but I prefer a fuller expression and I found the tone a bit screechy.

Eight years after tasting my first bottle. Not much has changed. No signs of tiredness, but at the same time there is nothing lush and generous about 96 Montrose. It is a bit stiff, with all the qualities of a bery good mature bordeaux. Like great lovemaking, but without the love.

Tasted blind. Med lemon color. Pronounced aromas of orange marmalade, honey, fresh and dried mango, pineapple, smoke, flint, ripe/candied lemon. Dry, sharp, high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, long finish. Will age. Shocked by the price, given how good this wine is. Rieslings from other regions have been some of the best QPR wines in the sub-$20 range for me, but I’m adding Austria to the list. Stylistically pretty ripe and aromatic, while keeping its signature piercing acidity. Really tasty stuff. 93+

What a stunner - one of the best Marie Courtin bottlings I’ve had. Rich, mineral, toasty yellow fruit with just a hint of oxidation and age starting to show. I’ve always been told to let these wines breathe and come to temp for the best enjoyment, and while that certainly didn’t hurt this round, this bottle was on fire from the get. Delicious!

Pale garnet in the glass. With some decant this opens up abit, but the wine is definitely not overly complex (which was slightly underwhelming) - notes of crunchy cherry, raspberry, damp carpet, violets. Good fruit offering on the palate, but structurally the wine feels somewhat thin, where the acidity and tannins lag behind the fruit and alcohol. Medium finish.

Nicely done. Crisp acidity, tropical fruit on the nose, and more texture than a typical SB. It is still SB and so in my opinion has a ceiling, but for the price it is an absolute steal. Much much better closer to room temperature, when chilled it is harder to see through the acid.

The nose is filled with sour citrus, spring flowers, and minerals. The bottle age is starting to throw in some riper, sweeter fruit aromas. The palate is a touch oily which is necessary to counter the intense acidity. Needs an hour long decant now. This is a really beautiful wine that inspires me to explore their other cuvées.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2022 Sketch pours a bright straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is youthful with fascination notes of white and yellow flowers, nettles, lemon, strawberry, orange pith, hot steel, wet stone, and oh the minerals! On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is so long and ever so saline. This was my first bottle of Sketch (finally!) which has been a bit of a unicorn wine for me. I’ve long had a deep respect for Raul Pérez but this wine has confirmed a special place reserved in my heart for him. They say once bitten… Drink now through 2039.

Very nice new world Viognier from Mt Harlan’s chalky soil — apparently gleaned from some of the original imported vines to California.

Carries a classic perfumed nose of jasmine, citrus blossom, baked apple, mandarin orange, clotted cream, gravel and light spice elements.

Palate shows fleshy full-bodied weight with a nice counter-balance of brisk acidity.

Great, if not as immediately compelling and vibrant as Condrieu.

A very powerful but too young Tribut Montmains 2019. Despite the fact many say this is a former Forest parcel adjacent or near / part of the Vincent Dauvissat one, this wine is a very opposing style to Dauvissat’s. This could use a longer decant and if drinking pop and pour, it is very austere with very high acidity, strong bitter and preserved lemon and pith flavors, unlike the Dauvissat Forest of the same vintage that has more almond paste flowers and balanced fruit. However with that said it pairs nicely with fatty briney oysters, and seafood with cream sauce, grilled noble and dry aged grilled fish (with richer sauces) fairly easily and mellows out a little. The wine didn’t budge a whole lot within 2 hours. Can age 8 to 10 years easily. Hold if you have them.

This is a lovely wine that's still just a little young. Began to open on the 2nd night and is really singing on the 3rd. I'm not that familiar with Barthod but this is a darker-fruited style of Chambolle. Fruit is pure and deep. Lovely juice. This wine has the structure to be decanted and if I had another bottle I would do that, but it will continue to improve for at least 5 more years.
