still a lot of tannins, very tight at opening. would benefit from a couple of hours of decant at this point. although also seems to be developing some age

Flipping amazing! Really in a strong groove right now --- anyone with multiple bottles should be popping at least one. Will age longer -- in fact, this tastes quite young at the moment, so if you want this when it's mature then you really must continue to Hold. For me, it's too good to not drink right now.

Tasted next to 2001 Leoville Las Cases. Spices on the nose, dark fruit, cigar box and again graphite. Great balance, quite bright despite the ripe, generous fruit, well integrated tannins. Not quite as majestic as the LLC, but really excellent. Very persistent and vibrant finish. Drink or keep. 94-96

The wine shows deep golden color.
In the nose, the wine shows high intensity, apricot, peaech, sweet spice, candle/wax notes, thin oak frame
Palate shows freshness, youthful, candied fruit notes, peach, apricot and mandarin, orange peel jam, citrus in a more concentrated form, full body, nice balancing acidity, delicate, med finish. Drinking beautifully now

Much darker in colour than the 1996 Chateau Montrose tased next to it. Lovely depth on the nose: cassis, eucalyptus, spices, tobacco, graphite. On the palate lots of fruit, well integrated tannins, good acidity. Very elegant and complete, great depth and very impressive length. Drink or keep. 95-97

Quite evolved, both in terms of colour and aromatics on the nose: Spice box, cedar, leather, graphite, some earthy, mushroomy notes. On the palate not a lot of fruit - the acidity was quite pronounced and the tannins still rather firm and somewhat drying. Good length. Based on this bottle I would recommend to drink up. 91-93

Pale gold colour in the glass with a wax, white peach and floral nose. The palate is beautiful with plenty of zesty acidity counterbalancing the wide juicy pear and peach fruits. Some citrus grapefruit coming to the fore with abundant acidity into a long finish. Didn’t get much malo cream or vanilla in the mix. Very elegant and just delicious!

💭 Merry Christmas everyone! We’ve come close to a close of another year. While the kids have their presents, the adults can indulge.

NA Quinta do Noval 10 year old Tawny Port: Deep copper. Growing up in South East Asia, the notes reminds me of a typical traditional medicine store with umeshu (梅酒 Japanese liqueur made by steeping unripe ume plums in liqueur and sugar), and dried monk fruit (Lo Hon Guo / 羅漢果), dried herbs, wood, and underlying nuts, and dried fruits. Rich, spicy, sweet but not cloyingly, and oily.

Paired with 18 months aged Comte cheese, and aged Rum fruit cake.

💭 Joyeux Noël à tous ! Nous approchons de la fin d’une autre année. Pendant que les enfants reçoivent leurs cadeaux, les adultes peuvent se faire plaisir.

Porto Tawny NA Quinta do Noval 10 ans : Cuivre profond.

💭 2022 Babich Family Estate Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand . 100% Sauvignon Blanc. One of the best expressions of Sauvignon Blanc I’ve ever had. A gift from a colleague from New Zealand.

Notes of ripe mango, grapefruit, citrus, and fresh cut grass . Fresh, ripe, bright and precise. A pleasurable drink.

💭 2022 Babich Family Estate Singke Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough Nouvelle-Zélande . 100% Sauvignon Blanc.

This has the Jadot signature, dark fruits that is not too dense on the palate. There is quite abit of earth and mushrooms, tertiary development is there with still plenty of fruits left. Decent, straight down the middle type of Jadot.

💭 2019 Bodegas Emilio Moro Tempranillo Ribeira Del Duero. 100% Tempranillo. Notes of dried garden herbs, and red fruits. Still young, grippy tannins, medium plus body, with bright acidity. Best to pair with a meat dish such as a steak . It would be better after aging for a few years to round up its acidity and tannins.

💭 2019 Bodegas Emilio Moro Tempranillo Ribeira Del Duero. 100% Tempranillo.

Very sweet and lifted nose. Less ethereal than the Barthod but this definitely had the Chambolle touch to it. It’s a lovely pour, short on complexity but doesn’t take away the enjoyment.

Same bottle as Melvin below, and concur with everything that was described. Sweet, red berry fruits. Lots of strawberry and very lifted nose, rather Chambolle in that sense. Acid was high pitched but thought everything fanned out nicely after some air.

At a Ch Figeac trade tasting hosted by Frederic, drank with the 2009 & 2015, great aromatics, red & black fruits, cedar box, chalky, in the mouth v intense, powerful, complex & long finish, lovely texture, not as stellar as the 2015 but I’m nit picking

Second bottle, opened and decanted for an hour or so, this wine is now a pleasure to drink and in it's drinking window for my tastes. Plenty of sediment thrown, the tannins are there but relatively smoothed out and the bouquet opens up over the evening. Was a fairly reticent and mute wine a year ago.

Ch Figeac trade tasting with 09, 15 & 18 Ch Figeac. This wine was a beauty, not as dark or complex as the Figeac but elegant with great tension, charming, soft tannins, good length, easy to drink now

Deceivingly light ruby in the glass.

Tons of flavour here and a decidedly Burgundian presentation (with the exception of some cola on the nose and palate).

Sweet red fruit and sous bois on the nose, juicy, lingering finish on the palate. Tannins were well-integrated at this stage and soft as silk.

Almost wish this had been the first wine of the night as it's one that you just want to sit with and keep revisiting over the course of the evening.

Pale gold in the glass.

On the nose, butter, sweet cream, and vanilla. On the palate, basically the same deal. There's some apple and ripe peach here but much of the fruit is covered up by the oak, which is a bit of a shame.

The wine also finishes slightly bitter and mineral-y, which would have been great if, again, it had more fruit.

At least it wasn't flabby!

{screwcap, 14.5%} Deep colour, but with a bricking edge in line with a decade. Rich nose of blackberry, soy, cola, liquorice. Palate is a bit light for structure, despite the overall medium full weight, with low dusty tannins and low/medium acidity. Also sits toward the front of the tongue, and with a barely medium-length finish. Not overly alcoholic but lacks finesse and true development. Nowhere to go in my view, although it’s going to be ‘drinkable’ for years.

10th of 12, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, one of the better bottles (ie not corked or poxed), showing roundness and drive of top vintage, attractive flavours, minerality with nice touch of lemon curd, limied upside now, probably best to drink over next 2 years given high risk of flawed bottles with Sauzet.! F+ (18).
