Just a fantastic delivery vehicle for an unapologetic tropical fruit profile. This packs all sorts of guava, mango, pineapple, etc., but it's built off of ripping acidity and well managed RS, so a flavor profile that could skew candied and cloying, just ends up being super refreshing and dangerously gulp-able. Mineral touches and acid induced saliva serve to further balance this out. An oddball wine that makes you wonder how this has ended up being an oddball. From a technical standpoint, this probably has all the elements to age, but I think young and vibrant is the version of this that I actually want. Summer of Scheurebe???

Nose is rich, complex, dark fruit, vanilla oak, licorice

Palate is silky, rich, complex, layered, dark cassis, plum.
Long lingering finish that’s silky and entirely delicious.

Would buy again.

Very nice, if not profound. Good leathery fruit with a pleasant finish. Medium weight. Probably won't get better, but stable, so no hurry.

Lovely wine. Pale colored with grassy nose. Great acid and typicity. Very much like a Pouilly Fume we had the other night. Really nice.

Under natural cork. Decanted for a couple of hours. Medium dark ruby red with some garnet at the rim. Nice typicity of tar and roses on the nose. The tar element leans towards creosote and the roses are accompanied by beechnut, cherry and craisin. A bit of heat as well. Medium bodied, uber dry, high tannins and acidity with the fruit element very much in the background. Sandlewood, cherry, strong black tea, beechnut and licorice on the palate. Completely coats your mouth with astringent tannins, sucking all the moisture from your race. Sere finish with those black tarry elements lingering in. Not for the faint of heart or for casual sipping! I'm not gonna lie - I'm actually digging this right now. If this evwr settles down it won't be for years and years. A challenging 89 points.

A perennial favourite! Sealed under composite cork. Pnp. Pours pale, crystal clear, greenish yellow. Creamy, fleshy yellow plum and pear, light citrus, limestone, some phenolics and a hint of lanolin on the finish. Fresh, complex and lovely! Medium-full bodied, very round and rich, fills your mouth, perfect balance of acid and alcohol. Palate follows the nose and that's a very good thing! Lots of fleshy, ripe, yellow fruit, minerality and a touch of bitter almond at the end to add some complexity and reveals its Italian heritage. This never disappoints!

This wine has a loud bang at opening (sweet, alcoholic, overwhelms senses) but after an hour or two things settle down and it becomes orderly and enjoyable. Never had a wine like this so it was very interesting for me.

Pale yellow, honeysuckle, white flowers, apricots, sea breeze and minerals on the nose. On the palate, medium body, crisp, elegant, sour apples and limes. Barely perceptible tannin, off-dry, fantastic acidity and a good amount of fruit flavor. Decent length with a pleasant, fruity lime finish.

Birthday dinner with Valerie and Jimmy, an impulse pull from the cellar. First bottle of this vintage/designate.

Medium gold color. Nose showing citrus/lemon, almonds. Rich palate of citrus, orange zest, minerals, saline. Full body, long finish.

Outstaning as expected. Another great wine from Aubert

Medium-dark ruby, fruity and spicy on the nose, cranberries, raspberries, vanilla, allspice, chocolate. Medium body, off-dry, nice fruit flavors, raspberries, dark cherries, peppers. Delicate, smooth tannins. Really nice length, leaving an almost savory impression. Lots of complexity here, wonderfully balanced.

Approx. 1 hour decant. Dark ruby, nice aromas, spices of vanilla, allspice, cinnamon, chocolate, and peppers on the nose, fruit notes of cranberry, blackberry, dark cherry. On the tongue, more subdued flavors, savory, nicely balanced, medium body, fruit notes of blackberry, dark cherry are pleasant but not pronounced. Nice length with a clean, tingly finish on the back of the throat with a bit of pepperiness. This wine could potentially benefit from some more time in the cellar. A few more years will bring out the fruit and complexity in this wine.

Tasted this Herold side by side with Keplinger Oakville Ranch ‘19.

Both drank so well from 30 minute mark to hour 4! 3 tasters. We all tasted very similar notes: Huge purplish black fruit, super Structured
Loads of cardamom, cloves, crushed rocks, cinnamon sticks, and mountain minerals! Depth and layers on both wines were memorable. I have a bunch of Herold OVR, I’d be sure to get some more Keplinger. Cheers

Pale ruby, raspberries and blackberries on the nose, still a bit cool (about 45 degrees) so aromas are not fully expressed, but they are pleasant. On the palate, cranberries and raspberries, light body with medium acidity and soft tannins. The length goes on and on and the finish is beautifully balanced. Could have benefited from a decant.

Medium ruby, dark berries, earth, leather – not aromatically intense but there is a lot of complexity here. On the palate, dry, nice balance of tannin and acid. Cranberry notes, a hint of plum and lemon - firm, structured tannins. A really pleasant and long-lasting finish – lemons and cranberries that linger. Right at the back of your throat! This is a rich and elegant wine. An interesting iteration of Pinot Noir – a particularly German flavor. Bolder than a typical Pinot, would pair well with lamb or even beef. Drinks well now and likely to improve with age.

93pts. Red fruit initially at opening. Then notes of black plum, blackberry with a touch of floral. Smooth & roundness on the palate with 2hrs + decant. I’d say it still needs +/-5yrs of bottle aging to be in a better drinking window for my taste

45 minute decant, deep ruby, very aromatic – dark fruits, blackberry, bramble, earth, a hint of pepper, vibrant and fresh. On the palate, jammy dark fruits, low but perceptible acid, velvety tannins, flavors are absolutely dancing. Lots of complexity, but getting the impression fresh flavors despite the wine’s age. Great length, well-balanced finish in all ways true to its flavor. It drinks so well - accessible and yet bold and complex. A true Spanish wine – marriage of the old world and the new. It’s fantastic.

From beginning to end a flawless Cabernet. Dark black fruit, some blueberry and black pepper, with a solid oak presence, though not overpowering at all. Well balanced now and I wouldn’t wait too long if you have one. Paired with a medium rare beef tenderloin, roasted vegetables and twice baked potato… a perfect evening.

Pale yellow, white flowers, lemons, green apples on the nose, fairly aromatic, on the palate, quite acidic and slightly sweet and a hint of tannin, even a bit of effervescence? Not very fruity but getting some lemon with a pinch of sugar. Medium length with a bit of a lemony-tannic finish – maybe even a bit astringent on the back of the tongue? May have tasted too soon after eating a spicy meal with very sweet snack – not working for me now, but that may be my own fault for the poor pairing. May be better on day 2 or after a palate cleanser. Note: much better after some salty snacks, crisp, clean, lemony goodness.

Truly special. This bottle is better than the last and conflicting tasting notes while drinking two bottles so close together tells me it's time to drink up. This bottle had mature fruit and perfect balance. This Bordeaux blend was truly outstanding. This bottle was much more in balance than the last so drink up - bottle variation tells me we are at the end of the line as some bottles are strong and others are past their prime. Drink up with big beefy food (or lamb) and enjoy. I have 1 more bottle and will plan a dinner around it and hope for the best!

Medium yellow - immediately honey on the nose, white flowers and grapefruit. Very flavorful on the palate, sweetness and tannin at the fore, but not without perceptible acid; it’s uniquely balanced in flavor. Tastes of honey and nectar, medium-full bodied, sour apple, stone fruits, nectarines. Delightfully sweet, average length with a sweet (but not cloying), slightly tannic finish. This is a great sweet (if not outright dessert) wine, would make a wonderful treat at the end of dinner.

Pale straw – on the nose, what can only be described a “lychee fruit,” wonderful white flowers, lemons, sour apple, pear. On the palate, a very nice balance of sweetness and acidity but only a hint of tannin; medium-light bodied, round sweetness with a bit of tart on the back of the tongue. Sour apples, lemons, pears on the palate. Gives an impression of effervescence – just the slightest tingling sensation like tiny bubbles. This wine has a nice length and leaves a semi-sweet finish. This is a great gift option for someone who likes sweet wine and wants to branch out from Muscato.

Medium-deep purple. On the nose, blackberries, plum, grassy notes. Quite sweet on the palate, but with a bit of earthiness. A nice balance – although sweetness is prominent, not overly sweet, acid and tannin are subtle. A bit jammy (in a fruity sort of way, not overly sweet) like strawberries and blackberries. The effervescence subtle but noticeable. It has a really nice length with a tannic, fruity finish. This is a fun and delicious wine that is easy drinking for a winter day.

Pale yellow. On the nose, sour apples, nectarines, honeysuckle. On the palate, very sweet, medium body. Very low acid, almost no perceptible tannin. The flavors don’t stick around too long, finishing with a bit of warmth on the back of the tongue. Sour apple is really sticking out in terms of flavor – not a whole lot of complexity here. This is a simple, sweet wine. Not much to write home about.

Medium ruby, lovely herbaceous and earthy notes on the nose, very dark fruits. Taste - wonderful acidity, herbal and silky smooth tannins. Superb balance of flavors, with prominent fruit flavors of dark cherry and cranberry. Easy drinking but not without complexity, this wine has a delightful lingering cranberry finish, almost unctuous, just fantastic all around. Paired brilliantly with lasagna. A real treat, a big surprise and a beautiful wine.

Randall Grahm strikes again! This is an amusing and complicated homage to the wines of Languedoc that ends up not tasting like the wines of Languedoc but is nonetheless appealing in its own funky Californian way. Lots of raspberry, some bandaid -- the brett levels are flirting with the limits of acceptability but finally enhance rather than detract -- with a refreshing level of acidity. Bottled under screw cap. Drinkable right away.

Nose: Lots of guava mixed with peach, quite topical. Palate: lemon lime; overly tart and leaves a puckering twang on the finish; letting it settle a bit allows some grapefruit to peek through (60% Colombard, 15% Ugni Blanc, 25% Sauvignon Blanc).

Brought this one to El Tule w Val and Meredith. PnP, drank over an hour.

Prior notes: "Dark garnet color. Nose showing vibrant red fruit, damp earth, licorice. Dark cherry, blueberry and bramble fruits, faint charcoal/smoke, pepper/spice. Good length, fruit and spice persist through the mid palate. Medium body, long finish."

Earth notes and blue fruit more prevalent in this tasting. Shows better an hour in. Drinking well now, unfortunately last bottle of this designate. Should drink at this level for some time
