It was initially reserved on the nose but it blossomed into a pungent and intense bouqet of darkish red fruit, spice, green stems and deep perfume. It had a lot of underlying power that clearly needs time.

Medium ruby in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & blueberries with overtones of spices & floral notes, earthy/dusty, minerals, espresso notes & a slight touch of vanilla/oak in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & blueberries with spices, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing although it should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (93+). Not quite as forward as the lovely 2021 version but may eventually surpass it over time.

This is ok. Decent nose, cherries. To me seems sweet on the first taste, cherries, some oak. First sips seemed to fade quickly, but after 1/2 glass, the cherries seemed to linger. Definitely a lighter pinot, which I tend to enjoy. I will see as the evening progresses.

I tried to chill, based on the other review, but I am not sure that helps.

I am having this with shrimp, which seems like a good chioce.

Very complex, as might be expected given the unusual blend, and very tasty! Went down nicely as a pop and pour.

Ruby red, clear. Nose of smoke, licorice, barnyard (esp. on the pop), orange. Light to medium body, high acid, medium length, flavors of red fruits, orange, minerals. A little disjointed, not bad though, little simple. 87-88

Day 1: Leading expert in the world on these wines. So much better than the 2014 K Cattle King. Stone, raspberries, sour cherry, white pepper, black olives and earth. Super concentrated wine and long finish. Off the charts on the value. 94 points

Largely consistent with my last note: intense acid and stone, zippy almost effervescent. Most notable is the tense balance between the sweetness and acid, but in between is a cool airiness that many kabis seem to lack. Fantastic.

Black cherries, iris, thyme, eucalyptus, iron, and a hint of nutmeg on the nose. Soft, seductive, yet structured on the palate. Notes of red cherries, blackberries, and sweet spice, finishing with refreshing minerality. Nice acidity, grippy, yet round tannins, and a long finish. Elegant and complex. This is drinking beautifully now and will continue to improve.

Popped and poured, then sipped over the next few hours. Initially cellar temp, gradually warmed up to 60 F. I don't think this would benefit from a warmer temperature. Deep ruby color. Sweet black cherry on the nose with vanilla and milk chocolate. Hints of clove and dried leather. Soft dusty, drying tannins which gradually moved to a silky, but still drying, texture. Well-integrated acidity that may be starting to fade. No noticeable heat, good use of charred oak regimen. Medium-bodied for a Napa Cab. Tart blackberry fruit, black cherry, savory plum on the palate with cedar, dark chocolate, earth, minerals and licorice. Medium-length drying finish. Red meat friendly. Good QPR. Probably at its peak, so drink soon.

What? What’s that, I said I would hold off on my 2016 CdPs until at least 2025? Here is a truth about me: I often lie to myself. There you have it.

Decanted four hours. Great wine. Nose of black and red, sparkly fruits. Peppercorn! Deep. Palate of freshly ground peppercorns, those red fruits kicking and savory herbs. The heat on the wine is not unnoticeable but also not distracting. I wonder if I became more sensitive to it when I almost had it come out my nose from reacting to perhaps one of the all-time standout lines in a work of history I’ve ever read. Let’s just say it’s not every day one learns of a seminal moment in history that involves a timely horse neigh brought on by an expertly scented hand. I digress.

Now, I really, really am going to wait on my other bottles. Now is the time for patience so that some humdinger-y evolution can happen. This is in that glorious window for which we all aim. Praise Bacchus.

It’s a solid pinot but disappointing for the price and the taste. Too tart for an Oregon Pinot.

Color (10/10): Inky dark purple with watery rim
Nose (25/25): Seductive vanilla, cinnamon, hint of spice
Palate (26/30): Velvety smooth red cherry up front with some burn from the alcohol in the middle that hits the back of my throat with a strange vinegar 'twang' that lingers. Also some tart red berry. Almost watery in the mid-palate before coming on with a strong tart red berry finish.
Overall (32/35): This is good but not great. Given the name and price point, I would have expected more. The nose is SO alluring and yet the palate just falls a little flat. As it opens, a delicate melange of red berries comes through but it lacks a layered complexity I'd expect of a wine of this caliber.

A great Thelema wine. Still very fruit forward. Red and black cherry, red currant, some cigar box and a hint of the typical Thelema mint. In the beginning a slightly higher acidity that integrated over time. If stored well, the wine will have 5+ more years.

The 99 DRC Richebourg exhibited minerals, iron, dark fruit, chalk, stems, black tea, wilted flowers and spice. It had latent and humble power which expanded in the glass in an effortless way.

Pale & light straw gold in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of citrus notes of white grapefruit, lemons/limes & some stone fruits with overtones of floral & mineral notes & a slight hint of grassiness in the background. Light bodied with a good concentration of balanced & zesty textured, ripe fruit flavors of citrus of lemons/limes & white grapefruit, some peach notes & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & may hold for another year. Very good QPR when found at discount. IMHO, no way possible for this wine to rate a mere "56" unless it was an off bottle!

This was presented in a blind tasting of some high-end Champagnes:

1. NV Ulysse Collin Blanc de Blanc Enfers (Extra Brut)
2. 2015 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill
3. 2015 Cristal
4. 2012 Leclerc Briant Château d'Avize, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Zéro
5. NV Selosse Lieux-dits Extra Brut Ay La Côte Faron
6. 2007 Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Elisabeth
7. NV Selosse V.O.

NV Ulysse Collin Les Enfers - This was a very nice Champagne, very slightly oxidative with lots of lime, sea breeze and crisp green apple. A very nice Champagne! Easy 96 for me and a bridge between non-oxidative and oxidative styles. I can see this being a great Champagne that will drink quite well on its own or with food!

Pop and pour to serve. With the perception that 99 red including the DRCs being dense and brooding, the 99 La Tache is completely different with its ethereality and purity. It blossomed right out of the gate with darkish red fruit, inner perfume, spice and wild flowers. So much class and zen. The level of complexity was at another level, which made the excellent 99 DRC Richebourg so shy on the side.

This is an integrated, harmonious wine that manages to present as bold and elegant at the same time. A nose of black cherries, blackberries and dark chocolate gives way to a mouthwatering palate of elevated black fruit with notes of coffee, tobacco, and smoky earthiness. The tannins are silky smooth. The finish is long and spicy.

Apricots, honey and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Rather intense, medium+ bodied and silky on the palate. While this has good acidity, there’s a ripe fruit sweetness to this too. Medium+ length.
