This Pinot displays many of the qualities I love about Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Red and blue fruit, spice, earth, a bit of funk, and an interesting dose of barnyard funk combine for a multidimensional treat.

With no idea what to expect, this Grenache captivated me with richly textured brambly berry character, and silky mouth feel. More to reveal with additional cellar time.

Pale lemon with gold undertones. Yellow apple and pear on the nose - warm and autumnal with an undercurrent of minerality. Well-structured with medium+ acidity and a pleasant finish. A lovely wine that makes you want to drink more California Chenin!
12.9% alcohol, 10 months in neutral oak, only 2 barrels produced.

Holding up well since our last tasting in 2020. Still full of fruit, it has mellowed quite a bit since then, with smoothness across the palate and soft tannins on the finish.

Opens up right away, but has a yeasty gassy vibe that takes its sweet time blowing off...

eventually this is gorgeous on the nose: violets, roses, white pepper, purple vitamins, subtle herbaceous notes too...

tart acidity, powdery tannins, but a fair amount of them, this has serious grip

raw and wild, intense inner perfume, raw cacao and nutty lees provide a backdrop to beautiful fresh crunchy fruits and sweet lifted flowers

the feeling here is raw and wild, so o would check up on it regift planning to save more than a few years.

Love it, wish it didn't become so expensive, I don't think I'd want to pay more than $45 for this...

It has been 5 years since my last bottle. More integrated, but still quite a strong wine. Great acid and tannins that are present but not obtrusive. Improved with a grilled filet mignon. Some leafy aspects now, and bright punchy red fruit with ample ripeness. Really excellent. No rush on well-stored bottles. 5 years should see no decline...and maybe more complexity.

2019 Caparsa Chianti Classico Caparsa Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese (view label images)
opened yesterday

sweet dark cherry, something rather liqueur-like, a little violets and leather, and green herbs...

grippy tannins are not shy, but they're fine enough, sour cherry notes are nice, earthy and stony finish

tasted blind, guessed 2016 Sangiovese, probably Chianti

Still way too tannic; it needs another five years in the cellar. Right now it’s tough to drink

Weird and I think probably past its prime...

Dirt, stewed meat, stewed veggies, iodine, a little dried red fruit

Better on the palate, bloody and earthy, tart and a little green, fine tannins...

tasted blind, guessed 1995 Chianti, lol

Corked, too bad... but it was barely corked and amazing spice and flowers really came through

tasted blind, I was thinking elegant Garnacha, but Mencia was on my radar... too bad this was corked, it's clearly a gorgeous wine

In glass - deep purple core with a grade to red purple

On nose - big red fruit- cranberry and currents, candy red licorice, crushed and dried flowers. Forest floor and savory dried herbs.

Taste - big red and black fruit. Blackberry, cranberry, red currents, and red licorice. Gummy red vines. Vanilla bean and spices in the background. Acid med, low tannin, smooth and integrated - almost velvety

Finish is smooth, spiced and well structured.

Bright golden color. Aromas of pineapple, peach, apricot and apple. Citrus fruits on the palate with additional notes of lychee, grapefruit, pear and a touch of almond on the finish. Crisp acidity. Light body and a slightly creamy texture. More refreshing than bold.
White
lifted, airy and sweet on the nose, crazy dry and tart on the palate

cotton candy, pineapple, green apple, white peach, iris, a little sourdough and stone dust

super zippy and tart, pithy and grippy, very mineral, luscious fruitiness darts out between the stones, but this is going to be austere for some palates

loved it, makes me want oysters

should be worth following at least a few years
White - Off-dry
AP14

honeysuckle, sweet lemon and lime, sweet peach, delicate spice and black tea

luscious sweetness, then stony and bright, acid pops, then luscious and light as everything fades, fruit is pristine, refreshing and mouthwatering through the finish

in a great spot, won't fade soon

tasted blind guessed 2004 Ruwer Spatlese

This was quite the surprise. Reading all the reviews I was expecting an unbalanced, hot, syrupy mess….was I wrong! It’s a big boy for sure and you can definitely feel the alcohol, but it is very much in balance. Opulent nose of cinnamon, vanilla and plum. Velvety mouth feel with still persistent tannins and some acidity.

Last one, and a very good one at that. After I removed that annoying half-inch thick engulfing plastic cap off the top, almost slitting my wrists with an oenophile bowie knife in the process, I was privileged to find a crumbling mess of a cork. I manage to decant the wine with tools I did not know I had and discarded the 5-pound hulk of a bottle. Then things got a little better. The wine itself was very good. Nice soft tannins, reasonable, if modest, acidity (and I'm big on acidity). Cocoa, with deep and rich fruit. Long velvety finish. It overperformed, even if the packaging was a disappointment. It is not about to go downhill, as best I could tell. Should hold up for a long time.

Very classic Bordeaux, likely at peak. Barnyard on the nose - somewhat funky. Red fruit and cherry tomatoes on the front palate. Some grilled pepper and vanilla notes mid palate. Ashy, resolved tannins with a long savory finish, balanced by acidity. Very pleasant, especially with food.

Ok for a glass, but any more than that and the citrusy / limestone minerality / acidic notes are too much for me, but keep in mind that I’m not a fan of most Chablis for the same reason. Nothing personal against the wine; it’s just not to my taste.

Medium-pale ruby red with light purple rim. Fresh red fruits, raspberry, blueberry, candied cherry, chrysanthemum, honeycomb, spices, mild tobacco, incense, wood and potting soil. Medium bodied, medium-high acidity, medium tannin, medium structure, medium alcohol and medium nectar finish. Fresh, bright and well-balanced.

I would enjoy them while fresh and young. I don't think they would keep well for long term cellaring due to the vintage.

Pretty good QPR for just under $15. 9 years of age seems appropriate for this level of wine - acidity is medium, fairly floral nose with cooked dark fruit from the get-go. Mild-medium oak, medium tannins that have rounded out relatively well, some pleasant jammy fruit aspects, mild minerality. Smokiness and leather also very mild; basically the subtlest traces of tertiary notes after 9 years, but considering the price that is not bat at all. Recommend as a cellar defender or weekday casual pour.

Translucent ruby color, clear edges, bright overall, with the slightest hints of amber. Aromas of black raspberry & fig, with hibiscus tea, root spices, iron and damp forest, nice expression but a little shy. The palate shows cherry, red apple and wild berry red fruit, refined and elegant, with secondary depth of black tea, five spice, red florals, rocky minerals and woodsy earth. Lithe and silky around the edges with firm core density that softens with air, structured with juicy medium acidity and broad grainy soft tannins, finishing with moderately long zesty length. Very nice, well-integrated flavors, still a lot of structure running behind the flavor integration a bit.

More developed now. Taut and savory notes of leather, tar, cinnamon, cloves and hints of truffle. The Gaja energy and finesse keeps the whole package pleasurable through the long finish. A touch rustic but simultaneously elegant and pure.

I agree with other recent reviews in that this is perfectly pleasant, but nothing special. It lacks the complexity, finish, or flavor delineation to be noteworthy, but otherwise perfectly fine. Darker and earthier than the Chateau Thivin Cote de Brouilly I usually drink.

Pear, peach, and fresh morning grass on the nose. Pear, melon, and floral notes follow through to the palate. Light to medium body that finishes dry with a touch of sweetness. Easy drinking and delicious, definitely will be on the hunt for more of this!

My oh my. On first sniff, this wine teleports me to my mom’s thanksgiving table, spooning cranberry sauce on Chinese sticky rice stuffing. A melange of cranberries studded with orange peel, a savory meaty note, with undertones of 5-spice. It hits the mouth with a burst of sunshine, that indelible signature Hardy profile of bright tangy red fruit with a bouquet of fresh herbs. Like most other EDWC reds, this unfolds over the course of several hours, revealing new dimensions like an intricate origami box. Bright pings of tropical fruit punch juxtaposed with oyster-shells and intense salinity. Anise, strawberry, and oolong tea. Medium bodied, chewy tannins, and a heck of a finish… all wrapped in a 12.75% alcohol package. I can only imagine how well this will drink in 5+ years - it’s still a touch hyperactive and rambunctious today, but an incredible amount of finesse underneath. Perhaps the best Hardy wine yet.
