Red berries, herbs and spices and minerals in the bouquet. On the palate red berries, a firm amount of good acidity, a slight touch of sweetness and sticky tannin. Still a few years too young. 93+

Better than last tasting 2 years ago. Impressive richness and concentration, Nice dark fruit flavors. Shows some refinement and balance but not a lot of secondary elements.

Nose of green apple, peach, and lemon. Very focused acidity on the palate with just a hint of sweetness for balance. Finish is medium in length and slightly bitter but delicious. This is one of the best QPR wines I've had for under $10, especially for an American producer.

First time with this producer, and very interesting wine. Quite natural, and as such it opens with a rush of bright, primary red fruit, which was quite nice. Perhaps just the slightest bit of brett, but really not much if so. The odd thing was that as this settled down the fruit showed more in the purple spectrum but with an underlying black pepper note I don't generally associate with Beaujolais, let alone from such a ripe vintage as '20. This was late in the evening, with friends who had stopped in and therefore I didn't spend a lot of time following or seeing how it developed.

Super belle valeur. Beaucoup de fruit noirs, du cuir, des violettes, mais une combinaison acidité + tannins qui rend le tout équilibré et parfait pour une viande rouge marinée. Carafer une heure.

Always a good choice. This Riesling selection is a very juicy and well-balanced dry wine, sourced from the sandy loam and loess soils of the Silberberg vineyard (located in the village of Walsheim, about three kilometers north of the city of Landau). Maturation: five months on the fine lees. Color: brilliant straw-yellow with greenish highlights. Bouquet: seductive nose revealing scents of green apple, apricot, gooseberry and a hint of rhubarb and orange zest. On the palate: quite an opulent and complex wine offering gorgeous citrus and yellow stone fruit, a solid structure and an animating acidity. Finish: persistent mineral aftertaste. Optimal enjoyment: excellently drinking now, but the wine has also a good storage potential. Great QPR.

Schitterende prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding.

This wine is on fire right now. So weighty and textural, with tons of gravitas. Like a mineral-driven Loire Chenin, it has a lot of golden fruit and even a little honey, but with a distinct marine element, like licking an oyster shell by the ocean. This wine had acid, texture, fruit, and minerality all at very high levels, but they stayed in balance with one another. A super impressive high wire act, we just absolutely loved this wine.

Decanted five (5) days. Paired w/Point Reyes Blue Cheese & Honey Crisp Apple slices. "Peter Nelson" described beautifully. Gorgeous shimmering copper color. Intense aromas of Golden Sultana, fig, orange peel and caramel abound. Ethereal presence on the palate with viscosity akin to light pancake syrup. Buoyed by lively acidity that drives exceedingly long mouth coating finish. A beautiful Verdelho that will likely drink well for decades!

The '14 BDV is good, but based on bottles from a few different sources I've tasted over the past ~6 months, it is not aging as well as I would have hoped tasting it on release or back in 2020, my prior TN. It seems like the fruit may be fading in concentration without the wine developing the complexity you want to see in aged Barolo. It still has nice textural elegance, inner sweetness, and good acidity, but not depth. The flavor profile is attractive, there just isn't quite enough of it.

On the nose, I found light red berry fruit tones, smoke, anise, a touch of orange peel, and red and violet floral tones. It's good, but I'd like to see a bit more explosive fruit at this age. On the palate, I found a medium to light bodied wine with high acidity, good inner sweetness and fine grained tannins. I found smoky red fruit, red floral tones, a touch of mint, and anise. It's again an attractive profile, but I'd like to see a bit more depth of fruit.

Grown in the Bricco Boschis small 25 hectare vineyard right next to the castle in the heart of Barolo. Bought directly from the castle long ago. Now this is nice. At almost 40 years of age, still exceptionally drinkable and fresh. A plethora of tertiary aging products. You can tell that it's old also based on the increased acidicity. All the tannis have turned into more complex goodies. Color remains surprisingly fresh. I am not a fan of young, closed nebbiolos, but this one shines bright still in 2024. Good cellaring, first in the castle basement and later by me.

Time? Bottle variation? I don't know. I wrote two years ago "This seemed to have been better younger. Not sure what to make of this. Quite ripe and dense, coming out with vanilla on PnP." Well, this bottle was great on PnP and over a couple hours with and without dinner (pan-fried chicken with pan mustard sauce - shallots, wine, herbs, etc.) And that's about all of a tasting note you'll get out of me, because I just flat out enjoyed it. Sure, the fruit is "sweet", but not in an obvious way, there's some spice, cherry, some darker tones, some earth. Smooth, easy, but not boring.

Decanted 30 minutes in restaurant. Should have been 2-4 hours. Still amazingly young and bright with grippy tannins. Full body, high complexity with a long finish. I believe 6-10 more years of aging is realistic. That said, the wine has already developed a great deal of sediment.

At first seemed a little faded, with a light rim, strawberry fruit-leather, and a bit of funk and earth in the foreground, but with air this came to life, becoming richer and more lively. Not sure I see an upside to longer aging but I don’t think this is at the end of its life, and would probably decant the next bottle at least a little in advance.

I’m not sure if I’d even consider cooking with this swill.

Fantastic, still drinking young. Part of a Merlot from aroiund the world lunch, that incuded a mini vertical of 2000/2001/2006 Redigaffi. Great depth with lots of fruit and just the begining of some tertiary flavors. Amazing nose. WOTL and WOTY so far.

Aerated and decanted 1 hour.

Good stuff and I enjoyed, but not quite as in the Bevan style to which I’ve grown accustomed. It’s not as big as they usually are. Absolutely nothing wrong with this, but surprising, no, when it comes to a Bevan? Could be the vintage, I’m finding maybe the 17s are more subdued than their brethren on either side of the aisle (‘16 and ‘18.)

Will wait on another bottle until the end of the year. 92+

Quite a shy nose right from the bottle. This needs a good decanting of at least 2 hours to release the aromatics. More vegetal notes and less fruit forward than previous vintage. Very high level of acidity but it is balanced by the juicy fruits and smooth tannins. Medium-bodied with an opaque structure not letting
much of the fine elements through. Some funky tar and toasty oak evaporate after sometime in the glass, it then finished cleanly. Good to hold on to this for a few more years before drinking it. 89-91 pts

4 hour decant. Had with meats and cheeses. (Meats and cheeses said together always makes me laugh. I don’t know why, but I’ve learned to take my mirth as it comes.)

Great nose of red fruit, leather, and bright cedar-y stuff. It is decidedly medium bodied with a palate of red fruit, some sort of subtle spice, and a leather jacket that’s been kept in a cedar closet. It’s elegant in a way that makes me a believer—maybe sometimes I don’t want Scarface, I want the Age of Innocence.

I enjoyed and appreciated this far more than my previous experience in December 2022. Look at what time can do! Heals a lot wounds, obliterates the testaments of once-great civilizations, bequeaths us jowls, and lets this fascinating juice evolve.

One more bottle I have. Tagging it for 2029.

The winemaker sets out an ambitious goal on the label: "On a trip to Europe, long ago, a shared bottle saved my life, opened my eyes, gave me purpose, set me on my path. A long road leading here, to this bottle, the best of Old World wine making and New World ripeness. One that I am proud to share with you."

A wave, almost a confusion of fruits cascading over the palate trending to the bright berry end of the spectrum. One posting mentioned every Bordeaux grape in the blend excepting Carmenere. Mouthfeel is rounded and full, not quite opulent. Strawberry with blueberry fruits, with some cassis underneath, not at all a brooding style. A happy wine that can be drunk in warmer months. Out of the bottle: good length, bright acidity to carry you through with fine tannins leaving you pleasantly smacking at the end. The only flaw I see is the blend might not be to the classic CA cab lover’s expectation of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. I’m sensing in the blend the Cabernet Franc and the Petit Verdot are getting their due. Recommend a decant and then drink right away. First Day 90+

Second day: more dulled and flabby, even a bit cloying, but still interesting. Second Day 90-
