Despite reservations due to deep yellow coloration, in a lovely drinking window.

Delicious wine. Deep red. Green Peppercorn on the nose. A very complete and rich wine showing lots of black fruit and a hint of chocolate. Wish I bought more of this in my youth.

Mörkrött, i doften fina röda trädgårdsbär, blåbär, viol, lite rökighet, tallbark, diskreta fattoner.
Får man säga ”jävligt trevligt”?

1996 Domaine de L'Arlot Romanée St. Vivant Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru Pinot Noir (view label images)
Acrid, angular, it was a struggle to try to enjoy it. Maybe this transforms in time? Not sure how much of the unpleasantness is vintage or producer here, but it was disappointing to have a grand cru that was beaten by all the premier crus served.

Loved this as a nightcap after a night of tasting too many wines.
Rich and intense plummy fruit. Christmas pudding/fruitcake/spices. Brandied rum raisins.
Just so damn good I will need to find some.

Shabbat with Alicia and izzie. Lovely with good acidity and pear smells

Liked it! Had a bite to it and a good dose of acidity. Tasted more like a slightly muted old world pinot

Lovely color. The nose shows concentrated aromas of peaches, citrus oil, flowers, beeswax and a hint of minerals. This is almost full bodied on the palatewith very good concentration and real class. The medium plus length finish features great freshness. Needs a year or two...

Similar to previous notes. More structured than a lot of other Napa cabs, the fruit is a bit hidden but it's there. Pretty solid, and one to age more, though feels overpriced. More of a cool climate style and not as rich as one might like, but certainly interesting and will appeal to many.

Not a favorite. Light in color, still lots of wood coming through. Needs time.

Delightful, delicious, seamless. This is the kind of Burgundy one could happily drain a magnum in a flash, alas we only had a 750 and it went down quickly.

Fun to try this, a milder more everyday priorat vs others I have tasted in the past. Would be very food friendly, easy drinking and smooth.

Very good, but acidity a bit too high for me still. Will cellar for a couple of years more.

Not the worst pull for a client dinner at a random country club in Orange County. Especially with 5 years on it. Decanted for an hour.

Ripe black cherry, ripe red plums, black pepper, "wild berries", ripe blackberres, espresso/mocha and cedar on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. Palate is more primary, showing a burst of ripe black cherry followed by plums and a little bit of cedar and coffee. Texturally sandy.

Medium + body, medium acid and medium - tannin. 15.1% ABV and hides it pretty well. There's definitely oak here; but this reigns in the worst excesses seen, unfortunately, on a lot of California Zinfandel. Plenty of varietal character. Drinking quite well now, and structure tells me it won't get ant better from here.

Old (80-90 years) ungrafted vines, grapes crushed as whole bunches and left to macerate for a day, spontaneous fermentation and ageing on the lees in Fuder, 11.5% ABV. Tightly wound, lovely density, very energetic acidity, flowers and slate, cassis and mirabelle, mint, leesy complexity, creamy texture but elegant style, subtle bitters, salty finish, long and tight, hint of liquorice. Gives clear indications of its potential but it still feels a bit unformed, it needs time. Long life. Score based on potential.

Quite delicious and drinking well now. Round and complete from the beginning, more depth reveals with air. I don’t have much experience with this producer so can’t speak to aging potential, but I will rrr on the side of drinking too soon than too late.

Decanted and drunk over 2 hours. Yellow fruits and very creamy, almost some buttery notes. Extremely complex and for me still young, enjoy over the next 10 years. This is wonderful stuff

Typical color, light on the aroma out of the bottle. More acid than expected, but within 30 minutes had smoothed out to cherry fruit and heavier body notes. Easy to drink by itself once breathing, but would have been better bottled to pair with food.

This wine is such a no brainer delicious Syrah, there isn’t much to say about it that hasn’t been said. Glad I got to taste again. Can drink now but will only get better. I always look for this at duty free in Europe!!
Red
Easy to drink, juicy fruit but not simple. Well made and balanced, no harsh edges nor excess oak. The table was quite happy with this and two guessed it was grand cru.
Red
Not as spicy anymore. Fruits are coming out, Well balanced brown garnet.

This needs atleast 5 years, maybe 10 in my opinion to be at peak. Decanted and drunk over 4 hours. Very interesting and complex on the nose throughout but very closed for always the first 2 hours. The material is there, just give it time. Will get to 95 I think

Like many of the wines tonight, I was surprised by the drinkability of this. I have an 09 in my cellar that I thougt needed more time, but maybe not.
This is a more rustic style than some of the other N Rhone wines we tried, but I like it to at way. It has an authenticity. Great balance of fruit and savory. Drink now or hold for more complexity.

Medium cherry coloring when poured. Lots of cherry notes on the nose. Other notes included a spiciness, some raspberry with a hint of pepper. A smooth, mellow pinot that went great with dinner (veal steak). Started to fade towards the end.

Greenish gold color, this is so young and tight, quite unyielding even with time in glass. All the material is here, it’s got so much tension, give it time and it should be spectacular in 5-10 years (or more?)

Lighter than the Stone fruit/ Durell wines. Lovely mouthfeel/texture and tastes lovely albeit not as intense and relatively short on the finish. Whiteflower tones. Very elegant wine. Tasted at 67PM Kistler tasting

Tasty but seemed a bit angular, needing more time and/or air to resolve. If I were to open another bottle anytime soon wouldn’t recommend pop and pour. The opulence is there, and it’s still on the upswing.

A blend of jacquère and altesse (apparently 50/50). As with the Apffels' other wines, it is best not to be too hasty to drink it down as it blossoms beautifully with a little time in the glass (and when served not too cold). Also, I have to say that I personally disagree with the community's suggestion that the ideal drinking window for this wine is over. It is still very much in its prime and should continue to drink well until at least 2025 (if not later).

APPEARANCE:
Color & intensity: pale gold

NOSE:
Intensity: medium (+)
Aromas: green apple, yellow apple, white flowers, flint, almond, toasted grains, white peach, hints of hay and baking spices
Development: developing

PALATE:
Sweetness: dry
Acidity: medium (+)
Alcohol: medium
Body: medium
Intensity: medium (+)
Flavors: yellow apple, lemon, lemon zest, almond, toasted grains, crushed chalk, white peach, hints of baking spices and salt
Finish: medium (+)

CONCLUSIONS:
Quality level: very good
Potential for ageing: can drink now, but has good potential for further ageing
Other observations: unfiltered, no added sulfites

This was one of the best Brunellos of the tasting. I am still struggling with BdM despite trying many and spending a week tasting in the region. They are still quite primary for my tastes . This one, however, had more complexity than most. Really round cherry fruit, great acid (Melissa described as pineapple) and a greenish compex nose.
I would buy. But it still puzzles me.

Disappointing offering from what used to be a great vineyard. Pretty flat, but reasonably well integrated. It just doesn’t sing like Neil Ellis did with this vineyard. With 9 years of age it’s developing some okay tertiaries like bandaid/ mushroom notes. Tannins not as prominent now. Would drink up!

Had very high expectations for this given how much I like the non-rosé Ambonnay from Marguet. Something was amiss here, not sure if an off bottle, but this really didn’t hit the mark.

Full, rich, and complete. This is about as great a performance as one could ask from a 20 year old premier cru. When I sipped it I mused that 00’s PYCM took the mantle from 90’s Leflaive with their premox issues. Styles are different but the overall sentiment bears out when tasting. This wine was a great treat, best white of the day.

Four years to the day since I last tried a bottle. This bottle was better than the one I had in 2020 but I still do not see the 94 that Vinous gave it. Peach and lemon dominate the palate leading to a long finish. I served with with baked red snapper.
