I've returned to this Schone Tal a month later to test my notes and memory of this wine. The 2017 Meredith Mitchell Vineyard pinot noir has the red-brown color of nicely aged burgundy. There is a complex nose of plum, strawberry, and black cherry cola. I believe I also detect rose, dried tobacco leaf, and cloves. The oxidized quality is present in this bottle as well, in the best way. This is a wine to take your time with, swirling and enjoying the bouquet. The palate is more subtle, with the primary fruit flavors taking a back seat to the more developed secondary and tertiary flavors. Cherry cola, plum, dried tobacco leaf, cinnamon and cloves, and very slight dried herb. Can I really be getting all of this out of a glass of pinot noir? I still think my comparison to a 1998 Chateau Musar has merit. Although they are quite different, there is a quality there that is quite special and they share it.

Notes of blackberry, stone, and a tropical like combination of pineapple and coconut. Mild to moderate tannins with low acidity. Palate of blackberry, vanilla, oak and orange. Finish has a hint of that orange with some vanilla and oak but is short

Medium-light ruby red in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, currants & strawberries with overtones of floral & spice notes, somewhat earthy/dusty, minerals, herbs & a slight hint of sous-bois. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, strawberries & pomegranate with some herbs, mushrooms, spices & minerals. Drinks quite well with decanting & airing although it will develop further with additional aging at which time it should rate higher (93+).

This was a tasty wine showing all the nebbiolo traits of light colour, high tannins and red fruit aromatics plus some mild but discernible oak. Overall pleasant and easy drinking but not especially complex.

Gold /Straw in color. Aroma is of flint, Apple and some grass notes.
A touch of a sparkle on the tongue. Palate follows Aroma with some white pepper as well as the vegetal notes. High to almost bracing acidity. Finish is nice. Enjoying with a triple cream brie and it's a perfect match

I let the bottle breathe for about two hours before tasting. Slightly murky medium garnet with good legs, a bit of funk on the nose in addition to dark fruits and a bit of the nebbiolo tarry note. Good acid and slightly puckery tannin, but not a lot of fruit on the palate. Drinkable enough but probably past its prime, if it ever had one. A decent enough low-end Barbaresco, but unlikely to buy this vintner (Terre del Barolo) again. I expect more enjoyment from a Barbaresco.

Stunning. Bonfire smells right after pulling cork. Pnp - a ton of acidity, only slight oak on nose. As air hits, cherries and pomegranates show up in the back of the palate. Long and I mean long finish.

Will edit after decant.

Terrible. There is no redeeming quality to this wine, and the price tag makes it a complete joke. No comparison to Burgundy, or reasonable chardonnays, at all. I have had great wines from this producer but both Romance bottlings are simply terrible.

very pretty, this is always so nice... peach, raspberry, citrus, a little minty herbs, spice and roses... great acid cut, juicy fruit, integrated salty minerality, long on fresh tart fruit, a beautiful raspberry note pops as everything fades

Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, plums & strawberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, mushrooms, spice notes, minerals, leather, herbs & a very slight hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with herbs, spices, minerals & a slight hint of oak/vanilla. Drinks quite well with extended airing but 24 years of age, it is at it peak of development, so drink up!

Wow, this was by far the WOTN at a friends 40th bday event. Nose was complex with incredible depth, improved with more time in the glass but came out guns firing. Palate was amongst the most velvety smooth I’ve ever come across without being over extracted or heavy. This was really a very special treat. This is a must try must buy

Picked this bad boy up from Costco for under $10. Not really sure what I was looking for here, but this is certainly not something I'd try again. Nose is typical Rioja without much complexity, and palate is quite bland and hot on the finish. Even when chilled, you really feel the heat on the palate. Don't think I'll be finishing this.

Lovely balance at 10yrs old. Blackberry, plum, capsicum, mint on the palate. Tannins are fine grained and present through the length of the wine. The acidity supports the experience nicely.

This was very nice to drink with an early Mother’s Day lunch. Quite traditional with just the right level of sweetness. Not rich by any means but not bracing like typical Zero Dosage wines.

Lots of lemon, mineral and autolysis.

Clear, pale salmon in the glass with tiny residual CO2.

Medium intense aromas of wild strawberry, lemon peel, fresh lime, hibiscus and salt.

Flavors follow the nose and leave a medium plus length finish of tart strawberry, lemon, lime and minerality.

Mouthfeel is bone dry, with medium body and medium plus acidity.

This deep-to-opaque ruby wine is a true field blend of multiple varietals, sourced from old vines that are dominated by Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Barroca. Offering an aromatic profile of black cherries, cranberries, pickling spice, lavender, smoke and black pepper, it follows with similar flavors on a medium-to-full-bodied palate. With fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), polished tannins and a hint of oak, it stays dense on the mid-palate and finishes with impressive length. Drink now-2035.

This might need some time to settle in - came across a tad disjointed, with notes of Meyer lemon, kiwi, and sea salt supplanted by a wave of oak that takes over and lingers on the finish. Spritzy, with medium acidity.

Nice blackcurrant fruit on opening but otherwise seems a bit simple. 90min decant and some a quite strong black licorice character and some other dried herbal notes evolved. Really nice powdery/dusty tannins create some linger.

citrus, green apple, white peach, a little sweet almond and smoky minerals... medium-bodied, sneaky depth and texture, this is so lively and fresh, zippy acidity and a strong undercurrent of salinity, long and tart

Always thought these would need 10 years. Beautiful deep red color, nose of ripe red and black cherries with a bit of pinot funk and briar...like an aged burg but CA fruit. Lithe on the palate, concentrated but not overpowering red berry and cherry flavors again tempered by aged pinot, delicious mouthful with a tang at the end and medium finish. A sophisticated drink.

Lots of folks opining on this wine, so I shan't. Plenty of American oak, where it becomes the dominating characteristic, but that's also very much Monte Bello anyway. Dark fruit, sappy, and silky, with a palate that isn't particularly complex even if it does come across quite potent now already. I haven't had young Monte Bello for a decade (why bother?), and from what I remember, this is very much in line with that.

Very dark clear garnet with a touch of crimson-ruby under the light. There is an interesting lychee-breadfruit-black raspberry mix on the nose. Slightly sour and slightly herbal with wild ligonberry, a slight sense of umami, sour raspberries, all with a soft mouth-feel and somewhat aggressive acids. It would do with pizza or by itself in a Passify the hobos in the rail-car pinch.
