Black cherry, dark fruit, anise, menthol, tar, and a slight gaminess on the nose, with dark cherry, red fruit, pepper, leather, and some cedar on the palate. Very enjoyable!

Nice ruby color. Bouquet of perfume, floral notes, and black berry and blue berry notes. Medium bodied, supple, beautifully balance with good concentration, ripe fruit some tannins, great balance, delicious flavors. Flavor of dark berries, tangy berries, floral notes, lots of spice and a long finish. Drinks beautifully now, so drink now to 2026, possibly 2027. Great example of a beautifully balanced approachable Rhone. 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre. 13% ABV. A Must try. Delicious. QPR - fair. As for GSM - the real deal

Really good - doesn’t taste like a flat Malbec

Pleasant wine with a mixture of dark fruit and earthiness on the nose. Body feels light though legs are significant. It is a bit acidic on the palate, but went well with an instant pot roast with rich gravy.

I love Guy Amiot's wines. Met him several times at annual fetes in Beaune - a humble master who produces wines that are a bit under radar here in US (although he is well respected in Burgundy).
Les Macherelles '19 is a wonderful wine, full of rich and powerful apple pie/lemon/chocolate/sea breeze notes, accompanied with brilliant but nervy acidity. Slowly opens up in the glass, and after 2-3 hours it shows what it will become in 5 years. GC status, for me. Don't miss! 93+

Very crisp and direct. Delicious white fruit. Smooth on the palate, medium finish. I think it is not diminished and last in the cellar for a bit longer. Recommend.

Spectacular. Right. Now. Beautiful in the mouth to open and then, 2/3 of the taste in, a voluptuous fruit pulse pours out chewy deep cherry that you keep tasting for the rest of the song, and don’t want to end. Really, my best Turley zin ever. Opened (“slow ox”) an hour before, with grilled double pork chop and roasted cauliflower Siciliana.

Remarkably similar to 5 years ago. Not so distinct fruit but still has density and balance. For daily drinker Bordeaux, this serves very well.

Still alive and in decent shape! Fully mature, the tannin is well integrated and the wine is showing some good tertiary character. Smokey tobacco, graphite. Fruit is diminished as expected. Not quite over the hill, but I wouldn't wait much longer to get to them. Had never seen this producer before and I'm not sure if they still make wine.
Red
Softened significantly in the last six years

Moderate sediment, best stood a couple of days, open a few hours to get the sweet black acidity

Premoxed. Bottle was pretty dead, no fruit left and just some yeasty, nutty character left but there was no finish or freshness or complexity to be had.

Tasted after 45 minutes of air. Starting to open a bit. Apricot. Stone fruits. Lively acidity provides excellent balance. Some mineral. Plenty of richness here and a very full mid palate. Peach pit on the finish.

First bottle, first impressions: surprisingly friendly even without a decant, glorious nose of dark soil, basalt, fresh thyme and mint, and some sweet notes of cherries. Cool climate profile with something leafy like chard, yet not austere, maybe since the tannins are friendlier than the other vin garde vintages of Magdelaine I know best. Its dark, almost smoky profile is a surprise in a "light" vintage. The balance is exceptional. Tightens up a bit after some air time, so I expect this will improve for another decade or more, but delicious already. Completely true to the house style, a quintessential Magdelaine.

this was really nice, with plenty of lemon and polyurethane on the nose. Good acidity on the palate, almost bordering on being sharp, with a very long finish. The wine was much more viscous on the palate than expected, and just drinking beautifully.

Purchased at the winery as a vintage recommended for current consumption. Very much old world in style, to the extent that I think it would be very difficult for a blind taster to place this in California. Nevertheless, this was a beautiful wine that stands worlds apart from the popular notion of California Chardonnay.

The fruit character is restrained and the extra time on the lees for the reserve bottling really comes through. The wine is round with good weight in the mouth but still, 8 years after the vintage, the acidic structure holds the wine together well. At the same time, a secondary nutty character has emerged to balance out the fruit, acid, and savory mineral undertone.

Overall, this is a great example of the breadth of stylistic quality California has to offer. I would encourage even the biggest skeptics of California Chardonnay to give this a try.

Another excellent bottle of this beauty. Cork was again, saturated but no issue with the wine Decanted at the restaurant/2 hour before tucking into this bad boy. Some bricking o the edge, but it was kind of dark! Huge blossoming spice box nose with a hint of smokiness.
Deep dark cherry flavors with velvet ultra fine chocolaty tannins. Long slow fading finish.

Upon opening, burst of red fruits and oaky vanilla with tannic finish. Decanted for two and a half hour, much mellowed down with fruits scaled down as well. The silky finish was however quickly yielded to tannic taste but was overall still smooth. This wine was very good for a young Bordeaux and was quite ready tonight but I didn't find the hype that it deserves 100 points.

Deep purple color. Rich and ripe black fruit, blackberry, black plum. Savory spices, leaves, earth, purple flowers. Strong oak but not overpowering, matches the intensity of the fruit. On the palate, fruit is tarter but intense and black. Spices and earth. Acid balances the body nicely. Really enjoyable.

WSET3 Course Notes; 4/28/2024-6/9/2024 (WineHouse, Los Angeles): A: Medium ruby.
N: Medium intensity. Strawberry, red cherry. Tomato leaf, liquorice. Distant savouriness but I think the wine is still youthful.
P: Dry, medium+ acidity. Medium tannin, alcohol, and body. Medium flavour intensity. Tart, really tart with crunchy cranberry, sour strawberry or smth. Bubblegum mayne? Cedar. Medium finish.
AQ: Good. Blind guessed a Beaujolais village 2021. To be honest, I thought the wine had part whole bunches, but apparently not.

served without decanting about 30 minutes after opening. This was showing beautifully, with lovely notes of leather, prunes, black cherries, and almost a hint of floral fragrance. Color was lighter than the '81 Grange. Also showed a bit of smokiness both on the nose and on the palate.

served without decanting right after opening. Nose was more green and grassy than expected. About 30 minutes later this was more minty, and lacking the coconut butter that usually comes with this wine and this vintage. Still some oak on the nose, sweet but not the same richness typical of Grange. More than 1½ hours later there was a little more sweet fruit, a little smoke, then some savory minerals and black olives more than 2 hours after opening. Unfortunately I do think there was a little cork taint here. Not bad to the point of the wine being undrinkable, but just very disappointing and not really enjoyable.

N: Medium+ intensity. Very ripe cranberry, rose petals, red currant, even slight baked character. Baking spices, smoke, and vanilla. Game and wet leaves. Developing but still very youthful.
P: Dry, medium+ acidity. Medium- tannin. Medium alcohol and medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity. Cranberry, dried fruit, a little brett. Guelder rose maybe? Vanilla. Medium+ finish.
QA: Very good. I guessed a Burgundy premier site with southern exposure.
9/18, I really do not think that this represents good value. At least, at this moment.

Perhaps past its prime (which is perhaps also why it was being sold at a discount), but seemed a little corked to the taste, though still quite drinkable, but not one that I would buy for anything close to the list price of $40, or at all for that matter. Maybe 100% Pinot Meunier is not my thing ...

N: Medium intensity. Very interesting nose with a little bit of citrus, red cherry, ripe raspberry, blackcurrant leaf. Chocolate. Earth and tobacco. Developing.
P: Dry, high acidity. Medium- tannin. Medium alcohol, medium- body, and medium flavour intensity. Ripe raspberry, red apple. Toast and leather. Roasted hazelnut. Medium+ finish.
AQ: Very good, even though the class disagreed. I guessed a very good Bourgogne rouge blind because it seemed blended. I guessed 2019 as a year and was really surprised that the wine was this young given all the tertiary notes.

Rich red fruits, tasting a bit more stewed due to the age. Some plum and raisin. Floral aromas (roses and violets). Tannins are still present despite the bottle age. A delicious wine that presents a combination of intense fruit and tannins that nebbiolo is known for combined with the softness that comes from aging.

Red fruits with a combination tart freshness but also slight syrupyness, reminds me of strawberry jam and raspberry cordial. Iron ore on the nose as well as a slight hint of something clinical or plastic. I don't get a lot of oak influence but very grippy fruit tannins and high acidity.
Not bad but I don't love it. I think this got very positive reviews and I'm not seeing that at this stage.
