Introduction
4 flights, semi-blind
Flight 1 (4 notes)
Red
2001 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon
89 points
earthy, medium-firm, some evolution, not very concentrated.
Red
2001 Château Haut-Brion
88 points
Perhaps just not a good bottle ... found this disappointing, at bit green, very restrained, limited note. Perhaps closed - no faults, but not exciting
Red
2008 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon Moss Wood Vineyard
92 points
Sweet, pleasant, rounded; slightly new-worldish only; not particularly long, but lovely wine
Red
2008 Château Haut-Brion
95 points
Primary but full of promise, cedar, lovely nose, much more typicity than the 2001. Great wine with promise.
Flight 2 (4 notes)
Red
2006 Harlan Estate
95 points
oppulent, large, not overripe but very concentrated. Everything in place if you like this kind of wine.
Red
1998 Harlan Estate
88 points
Perhaps not a great bottle - concentration and intensity did shine through, but it was dominated by and almost medical cabinet smell, noticed this in a prior Harlan as well, so perhaps just not my thing
Red
2006 Château Lafite Rothschild
97 points
Amazing perfume - this wine stood out for me, when we started the semi-blind tasting and I just smelled the 8 wines. Elegant, effortless wine, good length. Wow.
Red
1998 Château Lafite Rothschild
93 points
Compared to the 2006 Lafite more subdued. But showed classic Lafite nose and structure - good wine but not in its sweetspot currently
Flight 3 (2 notes)
White - Sweet/Dessert
1975 Château Suduiraut
91 points
Showing quite well - evolved; not particularly sweet - reminds me of 73 Yquem
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Suduiraut
96 points
Great concentration and sweetness - wow, lots of potential for aging I suspect. Great intensity.
Closing
Great event
