Flight 1 - To start (1 note)

White
2001 Arnaud Ente Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
90 points
Wine tasting. Bright citrus on nose with some good floral support. Lemon and lemon zest on palate with a good deal of minerality, perhaps a bit too much oak prominent today. Good fruit coming out on finish, with the concentration to last. Hold to 2008 or 2009 before trying again, which is quite interesting for a Villages level wine.

Flight 2 - Older Flight (6 notes)

Red
1987 Joseph Drouhin Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
88 points
Blind tasting. Better than the bottle I had a few years ago, this still had more fruit and energy. Nice subtle red fruit, even if not powerful or prominent. Smoky finish showed real Musigny elegance and character. Good length.
Red
1991 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges Aux Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
90 points
Blind tasting. Intense floral nose with hints of Asian spice. Bright flavors of red cherry with a bit of black cherry with some spice. If tasted blind I'd have certainly guessed Vosne from nose and palate. Fruit is robust and ripe with some secondary development. Finish isn't particularly long or nuanced.
Red
1995 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Brickhouse Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
90 points
Blind tasting. Similar to some bottles from a few years back with a bit more evolution and forest floor. This mushroomy character gives some added charm, mostly making up for the loss of some fruit. Fruit still comes through nicely on the long finish. I will try to finish the bottles I own in the next couple of years.
Red
1999 Arcadian Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
88 points
Blind tasting. Lush fruit aromas with modest spice. Slightly less forthcoming on palate, with black fruit that took time to coax out from its shell. Hold to 2008 or later.
Red
1988 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
Blind tasting. I thought this an interesting non-Pinot Noir ringer to include, given that I've often found Beaucastel to often resemble Burgundy in some vintages. Smoked cherry aromas and flavors with some anise. Quite fresh for its age. Good length and finish.
Red
1988 Domaine Ponsot Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
89 points
Blind tasting. Intense black fruit aromas with modest spice. Same black fruit on palate, just still dominated by tannins and acidity that aren't in complete harmony. 92 point nose, 87 point flavors.

Flight 3 - Younger Flight (6 notes)

Red
2001 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Chambolle-Musigny Beaux Bruns France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
91 points
Blind tasting. Bright red cherry on the nose. Same fruit on palate with baking spice in the middle. Lots of acidity gives this energy racing towards the finish, but a little sharp for now, hold to 2009 or later.
Red
2001 Domaine Bizot Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
92 points
Blind tasting. Bright red cherry and strawberry on nose with some emerging spice. Same fruit on palate, very bright with excellent acidity and texture. Very subtle wine, but still a long, elegant finish.
Red
2002 Louis Jadot Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
90 points
Blind tasting. Not quite as good as bottles I tried last year. Perhaps shutting down a bit? Acidity and tannins more prominent, floral charm less pronounced. Nice red fruit comes out on finish. hold to probably 2009 or later.
Red
2003 Domaine Perrot-Minot Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
88 points
Blind tasting. Big fruit aromas with some slightly sweet hints. Clearly a 2003 but showing good balance, even if not elegance. Seems slightly closed down, I'd hold to 2009 or later.
Red
2001 Calera Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan
90 points
Blind tasting. Slightly floral start with robust, fresh fruit. Palate shows slightly leaner fruit with good acidity a bit prominent today, giving it a rather Burgundian character. Probably better in another 3-5 years.
Red
2000 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Blind tasting. Dark, brooding fruit, wine needs more time. I think this might be shut down in an awkward phase right now. Slightly tannic, almost bitter finish. 85 points tonight, but uncertain if it is showing its potential fairly now. Others liked this better than I did.

Flight 4 - To Finish (1 note)

Red - Fortified
2001 Williams Selyem Port Mistral Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast
90 points
Intense aromatics are both fresh and sweet. Lighter and more elegant than I expected with just moderate degree of sweetness. Give this another 5 years in the cellar.
