Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2009 Château Latour-Martillac Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
89 points
Honey, lanolin, fresh, quite some lemon; A good bite, fresh, moderate body, unfortunately a bit short.
White
2005 Château Carbonnieux Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
86 points
Mature smell, shy, some minerality and honey; rather short, rounded, uninspiring.

Flight 2 (20 notes)

Red
1976 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
87 points
Underbrush, rotting logs, sweet and sour; fresh, very pleasant, decent length, sweet and sour in the moth as well, fresh.
Red
1967 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
86 points
On the nose there is actually some mocha beans, deep; in the mouth is a bit angular, still some tannin, fresh and tight, charmless.
Red
1979 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
84 points
Wonderful nose with underbrush and dark berries; the palate is quite a contrast: short, tart, very disappointing.
Red
1966 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
95 points
Dark color; dark berries and underbrush, almost exotic; most balanced and long in the mouth; tannic still, complex, long.
Red
1961 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
92 points
Forest floor, a bot oxidative, some raisin; in the mouth it is round and warm, full body, long, but wanting in acidity and complexity. With air the dried fruit component gets stronger. Definitely a sub-par bottle.
Red
1959 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
Intriguing nose, complex with underbrush; the mouth does not follow, tart, shortish, some tannin, not much complexity, linear, foursquare.
Red
2004 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
CS dominated nose with black currants; disjointed in the mouth: lots of acidity and tannins – but the fruit is warm, not very complex, and oaky. May integrate, but I am not entirely convinced.
Red
1998 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Dark cherries, warm and rounded; similar in the mouth, lacks some length and complexity.
Red
1996 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
93 points
A bit shy on the nose, nothing sticks out; linear, fine depth of fruit, fresh, everything in its right place. Good potential.
Red
1995 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
flawed
Thought this was corked at first and discarded it, spilt opinions around the table. Into the bucket. A very experienced taster disagreed and let his glass sit. After 3-4 hours it had become a very deep and rounded wine. Too little to rate, but definitely a good wine.
Red
1990 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
93 points
Deep nose with black currants, some spice; fine tannins, long and deep, almost complex, good structure. A very fine wine.
Red
1989 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
96 points
Deep, sexy, spicy, some minerals – still structured, tart, long – of course.
Red
1988 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
A bit green, but stylish and spicy nose, much CS?; thin mouth, not very structured – atypical in this respect for the vintage, decent length.
Red
1986 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
flawed
Mixture of Spearmint and brett, some thought it might have hint of TCA, but after a while it became clear that this was not the issue, but it was not quite correct bottle. Unclean. Short, lacking fruit
Red
1985 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
90 points
Good maturity with some tertiary aromas, some tartness on the nose; however, in the mouth the fruit is warm, shortish.
Red
1981 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
87 points
Not much fruit, tart, decent – but not more.
Red
1983 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
92 points
Some complexity, structured and long, tart, lacking in depth of fruit for a truly glorious bottle. I have never found this to live up the hype.
Red
1983 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
98 points
Deep and sweet fruit on the nose, spicy and floral, very complex; a combination of a surprising full body (for a 83), sweet fruit and fine acidity/structure. A crowd pleaser, but what is wrong with that? Approaching its plateau.
Red
1982 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Anonymous nose; surprisingly fresh for an ’82. Short notes here, I see, quite unremarkable.
Red
1966 Château Meyney France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
81 points
From double magnum. Bleak, short, no direct oxidation.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red - Fortified
1970 Graham Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
93 points
Deep cherry nose, stony, fresh, some raisin; long and fresh, surprising combination of youthfulness and an alcoholic finish. There are better bottles.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1989 Château de Fargues France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
91 points
Deep botrytis nose, orange peel, spices; the mouth is not as convincing. Although served a bit warm, it is lacking freshness.
