Red
2011 Daniel Twardowski Pinot Noix Ardoise Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Glass: Riedel Veritas Burgundy
Popped and poured. First vintage of this wine, only ~ 1700 bottles produced. Matured in used oak from Rousseau and DRC.
Clear, medium purple-ruby color. Very interesting and beautiful nose. Certainly not Burgundy, but for a German Pinot untypical not dominated by oak. Full-flavored, complex aromas, herbs, red fruit.
Dry, medium acidity, full-flavored complex taste, soil, herbs, interesting notes of woodruff. Full bodied, powerful but never to fat or broad. Drinks well now, but will certainly develop with time. One of the most interesting German Pinots I had for a long time.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2009 Gantenbein Pinot Noir Switzerland, Eastern Switzerland, Graubünden, Fläsch
90 points
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Slightly dull, pale ruby color. Cool climate nose is quite muted in the “Goldfish bowl”, which is never a good sign for a great Pinot.
Dry, medium acidity, some simple red fruit, quite “german” taste, medium length. My usual problem with most Gantenbein's: It starts to fade at this early stage… Not really good compared to the other Pinots of this evening. Will certainly not improve or develop. Drink up.

Red
2004 Gantenbein Pinot Noir Switzerland, Eastern Switzerland, Graubünden, Fläsch
Gone! Not faulty in sense of TCA or something like this, but maybe not the best bottle condition either. Therefore not rated.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2008 Bernhard Huber Wildenstein Spätburgunder R Germany, Baden
93 points
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Clear, pale ruby color. What a difference compared to the 2009 Gantenbein. Intense, developing, typical German Pinot nose.
Dry, high acidity, well integrated, medium+ tannin. Elegant, powerful, cool climate aromas, red fruit, long finish. Has several years ahead, no need to hurry.
Very good German Pinot. Is it worth the price tag? Certainly not :)

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2005 Bernhard Huber Wildenstein Spätburgunder R Germany, Baden
90 points
Glass: Riedel Veritas Burgundy
Popped and poured from Magnum.
Clear, medium+ ruby-garnet color. Medium intense nose. Completely different from the 2008 and no real similarities or common characteristics. Maybe the warm vintage?
Lacks the depth and complexity of the 2008. Medium length. Good Pinot, but time to drink up, it won’t improve

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red
2013 Morlet Family Vineyards Pinot Noir Coteaux Nobles USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Clear, light purple. Intense, youthful-developing nose with lots of sweetness (sweet cassis liqueur). Very strange…
Somehow dry, but it taste quite sweet as cassis liqueur. Very one dimensional and not what I expect from a Pinot at this price range. It is the American style of Pinot: too much of everything. Well it is quite youthful and I don’t have a clue how it will develop. Not rated.

Flight 7 (1 note)

Red
2003 Chanson Père & Fils Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
86 points
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Clear, ruby-garnet color. Medium+, fully developed Burgundian nose, which is quite nice: blood, fruit, herbs, smoke.
Unfortunately it is past peak. Not flawed. Medicinal notes, not much fruit, short, gone. Makes no real fun.

Flight 8 (1 note)

Red
1997 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
94 points
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Clear, ruby-garnet color, very fine sediment. Lovely, medium+ fully developed fine Burgundian nose.
Dry, medium+ acidity, medium tannins, both perfectly balanced. Complex aromas, fine oak, lots of extract sweetness, elegant. Long, lingering finish. This wine is at its peak but will stay there for 5-10+ years. That’s what I expect from a very good Burgundy.

Flight 9 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
91 points
Glass: Riedel Veritas Burgundy
Popped and poured from 0,75l bottle.
Clear, light amber color. Medium+, developing nose without the usual nail polish remover notes. Honey, almond. Off-dry -> sweet. Full bodied, medium length and complexity. Will certainly evolve and keep for 10-15+ years.

Red
1994 Mommessin Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
87 points
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured.
Clear, intense youthful ruby color. Nose is medium intense, fully developed, nice mixture of iron/blood, soil, fruit and smoke.
Unfortunately the palate cannot keep up with the nose. It has some bitter notes on the short finish and a rather shallow mouthfeel. Definitively past peak

Flight 11 (1 note)

Red
1959 Vaucher Pere et Fils Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured from Magnum from a presumably good cellar.
Dull garnet color. After pouring the nose is really intense and fully developed, but you can watch this wine dying after 15-30 min in the glass.
Taste is really interesting and not too bad: Dry, high acidity and tannins which are still balanced and did not fell apart. Lots of extract sweetness, lots of tertiary aromas, tobacco, lovage, smoke.
Wonderful experience but hard to judge and therefore not rated.

Flight 12 (1 note)

Red
2009 Karl H. Johner Bischoffinger Steinbuck Pinot Noir Cru de Bois Germany, Baden
91 points
Consistent to my other notes and compared to the other, much more expensive Pinots of the evening it performed really well.

Closing

Very good dinner, nice conversations and some interesting wine experiences.
