Introduction

Today turned out so nicely with bright sunshine that the deck was the place to be for the afternoon. Just a couple of bottles to savor the warmth.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Lucien Albrecht Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé France, Alsace, Crémant d'Alsace
90 points
Pale orangish salmon color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. So happy to finally drink this again. Not exactly hard to come by, but just have not had it come my way. This is such a nice rose and at a splendid QPR especially when had for sub $20. Nice wild berry fruit on the nose with spices and light mineral notes. The palate is balanced, wild raspberry, spiced cherry and mineral with a nice presence. Always a reliable performer and one to seek out when seen on restaurant lists. 90+pts.

Medium gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. Showing very well. Starts off with a buttered popcorn nose, that transforms over 20 minutes to show white and golden fruits, lemon, apple, and spiced pear. The palate has full body with a creamy texture and lemon parfait, quince, and a hint of vanilla cream, with some of the same buttered popcorn early on. The oak treatment feels moderate and folded in fairly well at this point. A very nice example of California chardonnay. Very enjoyable.

corked mildly.

Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 75 minutes. This was in good shape, nicely balanced, good typicity and character. There's nice Provencal herbs and garrigue on the nose with saddle leather, black cherry, and pepper. The palate follows well, medium bodied, black cherry, plu, nice spice and pepper with garrigue on the medium finish. This feels like eit is at peak now, but not in danger of falling off for several years. 91+pts.
Red
2006 Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Brookman Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon

Very dark purple red color. Aerated into glasses and drank 1+ glass over 90 minutes. This was nicely balanced with the 14.5% ABV not showing in the least. Well structured with pleasant tannins and a nice evolved oak treatment. There's a nice black fruit profile with cassis and blackberry that compliments the cedar box aromas. The palate is also well done, not one of those over the top heavily extracted wines here. Full bodied, but restrained and showing some finesse. There's plenty of earth and mineral to carry this as well. Very good. Much more enjoyable than recent experiences with their shiraz SVDs. 91+ to 92pts.
