Flight 1 (13 notes)

White - Sparkling
2006 David Leclapart Champagne Premier Cru L'Artiste Blanc de Blancs Pas Dosé Trépail France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Light golden colour. Some funky notes up front, along with melon, pear, ginger and some celery and herbal elements. Great texture and acidity that lifts the palate up a notch, without any dosage this does zip across the palate quite nicely. Improved in the glass with a bit of air and as it warmed up, this was interesting in quite a few areas without being fully compelling.
White
2004 Maison Leroy Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
flawed
Corked with a light chlorine note.

Blind. Orange peel, peach, white florals and matchstick aromas. The fruit is quite ripe on the palate, there is a subtle spice note from the oak that works quite well in context. Carries well on the palate, feels like the edges have started to soften out. Very good but doesn't really make a case to be better than that.
White
2013 Jean-Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Smoke, oyster shells, sea spray and lemon peel, with oak supporting in the background. There is a burst of fruit up front on the palate, but it gets focused back in through the mid palate and it ends quite cleanly. Seems to have all the right elements to lift further over the coming years.
White
2011 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Expressive and powerful nose of matchstick, lemon, saline notes, white florals and orange. The fruit and acidity is a step up on the 2010 B-M next to it. Builds and builds across the palate, with the sweetness of the fruit restrained by superb acidity. Layered and textured, this shows its class even at this youthful point in time. Awesome wine.

Pear, flint and lemon on the nose. Delicate palate, quite fine - surprisingly taut and tight - this is really coiled up and not quite ready to strike. It does have really good depth and I like that the ripeness doesn't overwhelm. Very good, but the two wines next to it were just a step up for the time being.

Flinty, floral, spice, mandarin, lemon and pear aromas. The palate shows off very fine detail, lovely acidity and depth. Brilliant purity and fruit character. Great length and immense potential. Stood out at the top in the flight of White Burgs.

Very earthy nose with redcurrant, cherry and violets. Good mix of red fruit brightness on the palate along with more savoury elements. Good mineral streak to it as well. I really like this at the point it is at now.

Blood and iron with plum, licorice and cherry. Sweet fruited palate, there is plenty of tannic kick to go along with it. Feels like this is in a bit of an awkward spot, I think it will show better in a couple of years.
Red
2008 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Blind. Raspberry, cherry, slate, light chocolate and a touch of stalk - quite a pretty aroma profile. Bright on the palate, with plenty of crunchy acidity through the middle of the red fruit. Medium length, this is very bright and pure. Very happy with how this was showing tonight.

2012 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Blind. Smoke, cherry, raspberry, spice and expressive red floral notes. The palate is quite well balanced, with the tannins there but taking a back seat to the bright fruit. Really nice flow and depth, this has quite lovely character. Youthful, with the best yet to come.

Blind. Gunpowder, spice, oak, light herbs and earth as well. The palate shows immense structure, the powerful fruit hiding behind slightly at the moment. Tight and very young, this needs a significant amount of time to stretch out and show what its got.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Clos du Bourg France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Orange coloured. Mandarin, musk, apricot, lemon and earth on the nose. The palate is nicely balanced, with good fruit and a light savoury earth note along with a nicely tangy sweetness. Good length, it is just at a bit of an in between phase, without the depth and complexity of age, but doesn't have the explosive youthful character. Have another bottle that I'll try to leave 8-10 years.
