Introduction

A rare opportunity to try some pretty top notch Burgundy in the company of the maker

Flight 1 - Blanc (3 notes)

White
2015 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges Cuvée La Gerbotte France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
stone fruit over citrus, wet stone, a little utter and caramel oak and a little orange blossom. Spicy, dense, medium plus intensity flavours, very mineral rather than fruit dominant, tangy with some front of mouth grip. Time.
White
2015 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Rich, apricot fruit, orange, slight butter, sweet spice, floral top notes, oak and slight candied notes. Juicy, tangy apricot, slight unripe pineapple (?), quite dense in a similar fashion to the gerbotte. Time but shows promise
White
2011 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
medium minus intensity aromas - this is more muted than the 2015, lightweight apricot over orange citrus, butter. In the mouth it's juicy, softer than the 2015 from a mouthfeel perspective, a little more subdued. Hmm.

Flight 2 - Rouge (4 notes)

Red
2015 Domaine de L'Arlot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Black cherry, spice, quote bold with stalky notes. Touches of clay and earthy and a certain meatiness. Juicy, tangy but savoury, stalks are a little intrusive. It needs time to integrate for me.
Red
2015 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Strawberry, slight ashy spice, floral top notes, elegant and completely lovely nose. Reminds me of that soft berry note of the ogier 2013 reserve cote rotie though it is completely different structurally. Juicy but still quite tight, though the fruit persists here, all travels long. Pretty special
Red
2015 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
medium plus aromas of black hued fruit, slight earth, quite dense smelling nose, cedar over muted soft berry notes, sweet spice. On the palate it's big and bold, chewy, tight tannins, chunky almost. Black fruit. Very young but inherently balanced
Red
2014 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Softer but still quite bold, black hued fruits spice more to the fore here with some creamy notes. Softly juicy and tangy in the mouth the fruit is more crunchy here, but this is more elegant, and has more finesse, than the 2015. Good and probably ready to drink now.

Closing

Bloody hell. What a wonderful tasting. I just hate the fact that Burgundy is, pound for pound, so expensive because there were a few wines that I would have liked to buy cases of. Damn and blast! I keep trying wine I like that's too expensive!
