Flight 1 (16 notes)

White
2017 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
91 points
White florals, lime, flint and vanilla on the nose with some laundry powder as well. Good power, with tangy acidity that launches through the palate. Really good length and acid/sugar interplay. Wakes up the palate. Really good, shame I could only get a small number of bottles.

Heady perfume - musk, orange peel, ripe pear, graphite and pineapple. Ripe palate with power fruit intensity, expressive tropical notes that are representative of the vineyard. Should lift well with time.

Lemon, spice & earth, marmalade - moderate intensity on the nose. Palate has slightly softer edges but still flows through well. Less energy overall than the GH and WS, but still enjoyable.

Orange rind, floral lift, melon, chalk and graphite. Pulsates with energy, excellent persistence with the acid driving it along and lifting the wine. A rush of flavour and invigoration. Excellent!

Intense nose - musk, lime, smoke and savoury earthy undertones. A good balance of weight and cleansing acidity, this flows well and shows purpose. A strong release of this wine.

Orange, pineapple, graphite and earth. Step up in weight here on the palate but has superb acidity that cuts through and drives onward. Great length and detailed layers give this excellent palate presence.

Smoke, mandarin, yuzu and apricot on the nose. Delicate sweetness, the acid taking a step up here versus the BB Spatlese and it feels more driven and has better balance as a result. Maybe not showing the same depth as the GH and WS, but still impeccably tasty.

Mineral, ozone, cherry, mandarin and pear with spiced notes throughout. Amplified intensity on the palate, incredibly drive with immense acidity that carves through the pure and deep fruit. Long and intense, showing real tension and texture.

Spice, orange, sea spray and papaya. Palate shows off excellent balance, the higher ripeness here means the acid doesn't seem as prominent but it is in the background pushing the wine through to the finish. Get a real sense of the clarity and purity of the fruit here. With air and time in the glass this rises up and shows immense potential.

Lime, slate, orange peel and smoke. Finely attuned balance, with medium fruit weight and good acidity. Approachable now but there will be more to come given time.

Pear, spice, mandarin, lemon, orange and slate aromas. Excellent acidity yet again here, with the sweetness at this level finally catching up and giving the energy an extra edge of ripeness. Extremely drinkable now with the potential for much much more.

Melon, musk, floral, lemon and peaches. Tangy palate, lovely acid line to go with the medium weighted fruit. Sweetness comes through nicely. This isn't as layered as some of the other AGK wines this year, but still enjoyment to be found here.

Jumps out of the glass with pineapple, apple, pear, lime, apricot and marmalade. Bright on the palate, with layers of ripe fruit and excellent texture and depth. Amazing level of drive given just how much density it shows. Imposing presence and a long way ahead for development.

Crazy aromatics - slate, floral, herbs, earth, lemon, vanilla - swirling and complex. The palate shows off excellent balance, the purest of fruit profiles along with beautifully integrated acidity that stretches the flavour into brilliant length. Detailed, layered and an impressive sense of finesse given just how much is going on here. Incredible step up in quality for this flight.

From 750ml. Light golden colour. Complex, layered nose - orange, spices, yellow florals, toast, mango, red berries and pear. Fresh and youthful palate, beautiful flavour profile with layers and the complexity from age just starting to show through. Superb length and power, this is a wine of unmistakable quality, with more to give in time as well.

From 750ml. Mango, coconut, pear, vanilla, apricot, lemon and waxy notes on the concentrated and swirling nose. The palate brings a rush of emotion - incredible intensity with layers upon layers of flavour and complexity. Mouthwatering, spellbinding - the depth and definition is off the charts. The length lives up to the same quality levels, with astounding drive giving it an awe inspiring finish. What an incredible high to finish the tasting on, I think this is likely the best bottle of JJ Prum I've ever tasted.
