Flight 1 (10 notes)

Red
1967 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Browning slightly. This is very classy. Purity of fruit, silky, intense, with plenty of backbone. Refined and understated. dg
Red
1964 Henekey's Ltd Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Still alive, but fading quickly as soon as the bottle is opened. Slightly rusty appearance. Very secondary, with orange rind and a reasonable length, before it falls apart. Still enjoyable. g+
Red
1970 Prosper Maufoux Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Smoky, rusty, browning. Very mature, with a hint of oxidation. Still some acidity to hold it together. Very pleasant. vg
Red
1993 Jean-Marc Millot Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Delicious, intense and long. NIce acidity and some spice. A step up from the '97. Seems to be in its prime. Very enjoyable. dg
Red
1997 Jean-Marc Millot Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Nice nose. Lovely wine. Delicious summer fruits. Good length. dg-
Red
1999 Domaine A.-F. Gros Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Very youthful. Quite tannic and with plenty of backbone, but beautifully balanced. You feel this will be a wonderful wine in 10 years. dg
Red
1998 Domaine A.-F. Gros Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Very youthful, with almost no development. While still primary, it has lovely balance, good length and is delicious. Understated. vg+
Red
1991 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
A lovely wine. Intense, delicious, refined, balanced and long. Very pretty fruit, slightly autumnal. This one hit the spot for me - other wines had more potential but this felt as if it was in its prime drinking window, although it surely has plenty of life ahead. dg+
Red
2001 Domaine René Engel Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Very primary. Sweet and intense fruit. Pure and refined. Quite tannic. Very long. Give it 10 years. vg+
Red
1996 Domaine René Engel Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Slightly vegetal at first? But it quickly blows off to reveal an intense and pure pinot. Very long and quite tannic. This is still young, and needs 5 or 10 years to develop its undoubted potential. dg-
