Flight 2 - Bordeaux and Lamb (7 notes)

Wine Group has both Bordeaux lovers and those who rarely enjoy it so less expensive and poorly stored bottles showed up.

Red
1979 Château du Tertre France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
93 points
1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. A surprising wine with a hint of meat, veggies, and rich fruit on the nose, rich but slightly overripe fruit in the mouth, lots of medium tannins and flavors on the long finish with enough acid and fruit to suggest it will peak in 2 years. First place. Group #3.
Red
1979 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
91 points
Was a mixture of dusty and sour fruit that opened in an hour to rich, gorgeous vanilla, ripe, full bodied fruit with hints of acid and dust, medium finish with lots of flavors, easiest to drink with the dinner, at its best, drink up. Second place. group #6
Red
1979 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. Featured a dusty, rich, cherry fruit nose, sweet, ripe medium bodied fruit, medium finish and flavors that lasted along time with soft tannins. Needs two more years to peak. Third place, Group #2.
Red

88 points
1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. Was a rich, fruity but closed nose that opened slowly to musty cedar over two hour dinner, big but sour fruit with medium acid in the mouth, medium flavors and finish with medium tannins-a trifle harsh to me. Fourth place Group #4.
Red
1978 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
86 points
1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. The lowest score from me in tasting this wine 5 times over the years, rich, sour, passion fruit combined with asparagus on the nose, big, rich, sour cherry fruit in the mouth, big, long finish and flavors but medium tannins suggest 5 years to its peak. 5th for me, Group #1.
Red
1979 Château La Grave a Pomerol Trigant de Boisset France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
85 points
1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. Had a big, sweet, sour fruit nose, followed by lots of sour cherry fruit and a medium body, well balanced in the mouth, medium almost short finish, most drinkable but lighter wine (merlot). My 6th place, Group #7.
Red
1979 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
84 points
1979 Bordeaux Tasting 7 reds. Had a tired, old chocolate fruit nose, rich, cherry fruit in the mouth with medium, soft tannins, medium finish, but very interesting flavors on the finish, needs 3 years to peak. 7th place, Group #6.
