Introduction

Glenn graciously agreed to host the reconvening of the HB Monthly Wine Club that has been on hiatus. He provided a wonderful accountrements from Angelo's. Angelo and Tomato Basil pizza's, Veal Meatballs, Chicken Meatballs with escarole & beans in Reggiano broth and a Caprese Salad

Flight 1 - A magnum to kick off the evening that was in a perfect drinking window. (1 note)

Angelo Elia Tapas

In such a great window. Consumed from a mag. Notes of ripe raspberry, faint toasty oak and some darker fruits on the nose. ON the palate so open and accessible. This wine is slightly past peak but showcasing nice secondary characteristics. A real good wine in a great window. Thanks for sharing Glenn!

Flight 2 - Clear cut winner from the group (6 notes)

Many of these wines were young but accessible and a few continued to improve over the course of the evening

2015 Seña Chile, Aconcagua Valley

Earthy, green bell pepper and a touch of clove on the nose. Tight on the palate with some serious structure. Decanted 4 hours before consuming, and continued to improve over the course of the evening. Needs more time in the bottle and it could gain a couple more points. Not a good qpr currently, but potential for that to change. Finished 5 out of 6.

Blueberry pie with graham cracker crust, soft and approachable, darker fruits. Just flat out delicious wine to drink! Fills the palate with rich, succulent fruit and a decent amount of structure. Really a lot of wine, done with a deft touch for its style. In a great window right now. Finish 2 out of 6, was my number 1.

Higher toned fruit than the 2009 Nosotros, with some medicinal notes coming through. Grainier tannins on the palate, decent lift from acidity and a focused palate. Finished 6 of 6.

At first impression, notes of iodine, rustic iron, dark fruits on the nose. Somewhat closed down on the palate, with tannins a little aggressive. This continued to improve over the course of the evening and was at its best when the bottle was done. This could use more time to integrate, so there's room for improvement. Finished 4 out of 6.

2015 Montes Purple Angel Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

On first impression, similar in profile to the 2009 Nosotros, but not quite hitting the heights of that wine. Very nice wine, blueberry graham crust and a touch of green bell pepper on the nose. Nice entry on the palate, good balance between tannin, fruit and acid. Overall very enjoyable. Finished 3 out of 6.

Green bell pepper, dark fruits and some minerals on the nose. Ready to be consumed. Palate lush and fruity, nice complexity. Has all that you could want in a wine. Just a delicious wine. Finished 1 out of 6, was my number 2 wine.

Flight 3 - Glenn twisted our arms to open another bottle (1 note)

This wine was a special treat!

Last wine of the night, thanks Glenn for opening! I didn't take any detailed notes on this but I remember being struck by how accessible this wine was. Maybe has to do with the vintage! I also remember really enjoying the wine. A special wine!

Closing

A great way to get back together with the group for some fun and some wine after a COVID hiatus. Glenn put together a fantastic evening of food and some special wines. Looking forward to the next months tasting!
