February 18, 2021 - Rhône Variety Tasting hosted by TCWC (Virtual): Deep color. Notes of black fruit, pepper, violet and just a touch of heat is noticeable too, but not distracting. Full-bodied. Loads of black fruit and peppery syrah spice. Long finish. I find this to be well-proportioned in terms of its fruit and structure. 94-95 pts.
I've not had any Colgin wines before and had no expectations and came away impressed. My 2nd, Domino's last...go figure.2 people found this helpful Comment -

February 18, 2021 - Rhône Variety Tasting hosted by TCWC (Virtual): Blind. Inky opaque color- the darkest in the lineup. Black fruit, pepper, spice and blue fruit notes. Firm tannin. Big and juicy- lots of nicely ripened fruit. Sweet and big, but done well in the style. 93+ pts.
My #3 (guessed SQN)
Domino's #6 (guessed Colgin, securing her 2nd correct guess for the win)
5th overall, 9 pts1 person found this helpful Comment -

February 18, 2021 - Rhône varietals with TCWC (Chicago, IL): Glass-staining purple. I've drank enough from Standard Meadery and Schramm's to know that the smell here is distinctly boysenberry. Honestly, it's almost sweet like their meads too (if only). Oily and viscous, this doesn't wear its 15.6% abv well at all. Shockingly bitter and hollow on the finish. The winemaking seems to have obliterated any syrah characteristics. Awful. At least it's consistent with all the other Colgin I've had.

August 20, 2020 - Sexy South Americans (Basser's): Last wine of the night, thanks Glenn for opening! I didn't take any detailed notes on this but I remember being struck by how accessible this wine was. Maybe has to do with the vintage! I also remember really enjoying the wine. A special wine!

July 25, 2020 - Oh boy this wine. Needs another decade to really be perfect, but I couldn’t wait. Infanticide.
Pours a deep, brooding purple; teeth staining.
Smells of blue and purple fruits, olives, mocha.
Tastes of olive, mocha / chocolate, blackberry; meaty/bacon fatty notes. Very northern rhone; plush velvet mouthfeel, firm tannins, very long finish.
