White - Sparkling
2014 Pierre Paillard Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Les Mottelettes France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
Nose: The nose is open-knit and balanced with quince, red apples, pears, peaches, creams, vanilla, saline, crushed rocks, biscuits, pastry notes, and warm dough.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with tart, high acidity. The feel is refined and elegant with the acidity providing a nice spine for the tones of quince, red apples, pears, vanilla, crushed rocks, warm dough, biscuits, and pastry notes.

Overall: While this can certainly age for years to come, it’s also really lovely now. This could likely benefit from another 3 years of aging to see if there is another level it can hit.
White - Sparkling
2010 Pertois-Lebrun Champagne Grand Cru Le Fond Du Bateau N°10 France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
94 points
Nose: The nose is dazzling and complex as it weaves seamlessly tones of red apples, spiced pears, kumquat, custard, yellow flowers, minerals, dough, biscuits, and cinnamon spices.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with racy, high acidity. The acidity still has some real cut and verve that sets the place for balanced tones of red apples, spiced pears, kumquat, custard, yellow flowers, mineral tones, biscuits, and cinnamon spices.

Overall: This is even better than two years ago. This isn’t far off it’s peak, but it’s a real tour de force from this killer, tiny Champagne producer in Cramant.
White
2016 Trimbach Riesling Alsace Grand Cru Schlossberg France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
92 points
Nose: The nose is deep and refined with red apples, peaches, lemon peels, pears, nectarines, flowers, oils, saline, and mineral tones.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with youthful, high acidity. There is excellent depth and balance to the feel with tones of red apples, peaches, lemon peels, nectarines, flowers, oils, and saline notes.

Overall: This can certainly use another 4+ years to fully come together. There is a lot to like right now and there is even more it can give.

2018 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
92 points
Nose: The nose is wound up somewhat tight, but still pristine and deep with white fruits, peaches, saline, apples, pears, white flowers, and crushed rocks.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with racy, high acidity. The acidity has a lot of sting to it right now, showing off its youth. The feel is deep and refined with white fruits, peaches, apples, pears, saline, and crushed rocks.

Overall: There is a lot more this will give with time. I think this has a good amount of upside of given 5+ years as this already shows off a lot of depth and poise.

Red
2001 Fratelli Brovia Barolo Rocche dei Brovia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
Nose: This took a bit to wake up. When it did, it was a lovely and nuanced Barolo with wafting tones of balsamico, dark red cherries, raspberries, ash notes, violets, crushed rocks, licorice, tobacco, and savory herbs.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with crisp, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure is starting to resolve and it’s left a poised feel that is backed up by tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, balsamico, violets, savory herbs, tobacco, and crushed rocks.

Overall: This is right at its peak. There was a lot of nuance and elegance with it having gotten to that point where the fruit has melded in with the secondary and emerging tertiary tones.

Nose: The nose is drop, dead gorgeous as it fills the glass with perfumed tones of red cherries, strawberries, savory herbs, licorice, raspberries, violets, crushed rocks, earth tones, leather, and a touch of ash.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure is fairly resolved right now and has given way to a gorgeous and deep feel with red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, violets, crushed rocks, savory herbs m, tobacco, and leather tones.

Overall: This is gorgeous and really opened up in the glass. There is a refined and elegant nature to this that is immensely attractive while still having a bit of weight behind it.

2001 Fratelli Brovia Barolo Ca'mia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Nose: The nose is perfumed and polished with dark red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, violets, leather, tobacco, earth notes, and spice tones. There is good depth with this showing a lot of depth and class.

Taste: The feel is Medium/Full bodied with crisp, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure has peeled back and revealed a refined feel with dark red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, violets, leather, tobacco, and spice tones.

Overall: This is at its peak. This shows off a more searching side compared to the Rocche and Villero.
