This took a good healthy 6 hour decant before it shined. Great QPR if you can find it at you local Costco. I have three bottles left and will be buying more. Another outstanding wine from this Chateau.
  • tcarter commented:

5/7/24, 3:05 PM - Curious what the Costco price was?

  • tcarter commented:

5/7/24, 4:00 PM - Thanks! I just found for $142 locally so will grab it while I can...

Still super young -- lots of years ahead and will be better 2026+. But this is still an excellent wine! Lush and silky mouthfeel, big juicy red and black fruit the bursts forth on the palette. Just awesome.

4/8/24, 7:45 AM - Smart. They could use a few years. I have several left so will try to check in on them and comment over the years. Stay tuned!

Ojai Food + Wine Festival; 10/26/2023-10/29/2023 (Ojai Valley Inn): WHOA. Drank this after a '98 and '96 and I would have guessed it was a decade+ younger than those wines. Full of life, lighter in color, very little oxidized notes, FULL of bubbles. Wow. Just stunning.

11/1/23, 3:35 PM - Wow, that should be incredible! Fingers crossed for you. Enjoy!!

Probably my least favorite of the Scotty Boy! wines that I tried at Anajak Thai, but no CT listings for "2022 Klong-Bursts Pet-Nat," "2022 Wild Buelberries Rose," "2022 Scotty Boy x Anajak Thai Carbonic Skin Contact Riesling Blend," or "2022 2 Bananas Pinot Grigio," all of which were great!

10/17/23, 12:00 PM - Thanks @tward. I only didn’t create the new wines because I didn’t know enough of the information for them to be accurate. Hopefully Scott (or someone) adds them at some point.

Infanticide. Please don't open this til 2028+. If you do, you will still enjoy but this wine is *begging* to rest in the bottle for a few more years at least, at which point the score will likely be much higher like 97-98.

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opening Well Aged Barolo (Ada Street - Chicago IL): Open and decanted approx an hour before serving. Another very peculiar wine. Musty start that several people insisted was corked; but most of us didn't agree, particularly when that mustiness lessened (vs worsened). But this wine was also darkly intense for a 65 yo Barolo, completely uncharacteristic of old Nebbiolo. At first I wondered if much younger wine was added, but the age of the cork and condition of the capsule hinted that was unlikely. Group considered if this wasn't 100% Nebbiolo, which we considered reasonable. Regardless of why, this was an odd wine inconsistent with any reasonable expectation.

Beautiful. Big rich deep black fruit cab. Drank from Coravin.
  • tcarter commented:

8/24/21, 9:30 AM - Mark1npt - I have done both as I have opened and Coravined several bottles of this. My personal experience is that with Coravin it's pretty much ready to go in the glass and evolves over the course of the glass. If I open it up, I tend to like best after a short decant. I actually have not found that it holds up as well to a long (several hour) decant, but that's my personal preference.

Killer showing. Big black and dark red fruits on the palate match the inky color, but somehow this manages not to be a fruit bomb. It's balanced with earth and leather and chocolate and hints of tobacco. Soft tannins and lush mouthfeel linger on the palette. The glass got better over 45 minutes. Would definitely recommend a couple hours decant. Eager to try the rest of the bottle on Night 2 and see how it progresses.
  • tcarter commented:

3/23/21, 9:48 PM - I actually found that it really opened up starting around 45 minutes into Night 1's glass. Night 2 was terrific--it did well with the 24 hours of life. Felt a bit less fruit forward, more balanced, more structured. Hope you find similar next time you try it.

Drank from Coravin. Seems to be nearing the end of its prime. Gonna pop the rest of this bottle and drink up!
  • tcarter commented:

3/17/21, 3:06 PM - Appreciate the opinion and insight. I will pop and decant the rest of the bottle and judge from that. Coravin is rarely a fair or accurate tool for judgment.

A little thin on PnP, but really filled out after 30 mins in a decanter and a few in the glass. Classic Cos. Fully mature, drinking well now, and I don’t think will get any better from here.

3/7/21, 7:05 AM - I think you’ll feel pretty confident whenever you pop this over the next several years. Enjoy!

Just a baby still. Shows lots of promise, but a bit tight at the moment. Tasted from a Coravin and am tempted to let the rest of the bottle sit for a while.
  • tcarter commented:

2/22/21, 1:40 PM - Really appreciate that insight. Although I love my Coravin, I do agree with your assessment, especially on a wine like this that requires a little air. Will just open the rest of the bottle and decant a bit and then assess again...

Still holding up incredibly well. Picked this old library vintage up directly at the winery in Paso Robles in 2019, so it was in pristine condition.

  • tcarter commented:

5/21/18, 7:59 AM - Disgorged in April 2017. But listed as 2017 vintage in CT.

  • tcarter commented:

5/21/18, 8:07 AM - Fair enough. Tasting note located under both 2017 and NV. Only reason to do both, is so you can distinguish for yourself which specific bottling of the NV you're rating. (It's why I like that Krug Grand Cuvee does editions...)

If the scale was adjusted for the occasional 101 Pt wine, 2007 Schrader Old Sparky would be a contender to hit that end of the scale! This benchmark California Cabernet Sauvignon kicks in with a floral, black cherry, blue fruit, earth, espresso, smoke and thyme perfume. When the wine hits your palate, that's where it really shines, due to its liqueur like, motor oil weight textures and silky, sensuous finish that goes on well past the 60 second mark. This is pure hedonism at its finest.
  • tcarter commented:

Truly a wonderful bottle of champagne, but made the mistake of ordering it at a 3 Michelin star restaurant and didn't ask the price and it was $350/glass!!!!
  • tcarter commented:

10/21/15, 8:22 AM - Yes! But thankfully the restaurant refunded my $700 (two glasses) when I explained that the somm never told me the insane price tag ahead of time.

Peter Bothe's 40th Birthday (Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak in Glendale): Near perfect champagne for me. Loved. Paired beautifully with raw bar crab legs and shrimp.
  • tcarter commented:

4/23/15, 8:48 AM - BuzzzzOff... I have seen some notes that say this is still a little tight compared to it's potential. And that some later vintages like the 2002 have opened up earlier. So you would be fine to sit on it for a bit longer. I believe I had the 1999 about a year ago and it was drinking well--you may want to hit that one first. But my personal opinion: the 2000 is KILLER right now and thoroughly enjoyable... so if the opportunity presents itself, don't wait! Enjoy it!!
